  • Great information for the beginners, you have made this video very easy to understand. I would think this is very helpfull to someone that has never tried this before. Very nice video!

  • Graet video

  • I really enjoy all of your video's thanks for posting!

  • Cool video Dusty.

  • This is a great video....thanks

  • Nice vid man . i enjoyed it very much :)

  • That was well thought out and nicely presented. It's nice to see carving techniques and not hammering a knife through wood with a baton....Dash

  • Great video Dusty. Great tutorial.

    Nate

  • The 2nd method is like using a draw knife, which looks dangerous but isn't. However, that knife technique probably isn't an option for large busted women.

  • Boy I wish this video was posted when I was starting out lol! I think my first day with my Mora I just battoned 100 logs xD Oh well. Great, great video brother!

  • No feather stick? No Batoning? W.T.F.!!! hahahahaha! Excellent vid. Dusty.

  • You seem to know a lot of stuff about bushcraft and etc (and I like your videos). You should put less videos about fire making and more on diverse things related to the world of bushcraft.

  • Simply the best! You are so calm! Thanks.

    Géza

  • This could be a great topic for future videos as well. Small things like this to sharpen skills like notch making etc.

  • I must say I wish I had this instructional video when I was a kid. :))

Really calm. I have some experience with knives already, but I do think this is a good exercise to start out with and a good thing to do maybe to chill.

    :)

  • @SpartanJohns Thanks man! Carving is very relaxing and stimulating.

  • good to see a sensible approach to using a knife, it seems the large part of knife use on YT is to baton wood and nothing more .. thanks for sharing

  • @oldguy537 That has a lot to do with the person. Beware of the KA-BAR welding assault pack wearing Rambo types. They are good people but usually lack something that they make up by chopping wood with their knives. Everyone has their place, I suppose.

  • @IHatchetJack I use a Ka-bar :P Used a clipper, BCNW 01, woodlore, but i just love my Ka-bar USN mk1.

  • Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

  • @chaulsin Thanks for watching!

  • Very good methodology in this video. I wish I saw this when I was five, it would maybe prevented me from getting some cuts;o)

    Rob

  • @Andersbork Me too. Thankfully I've only cut myself maybe half a dozen times over my life. All stupid mistakes and none of them ever repeated.

  • good! those are some wise words

  • @quintin636 I'm wise alright.... :)

  • Very Nice Tutorial my friend! you have a wonderful relaxed teaching style that still carefully covers all the details and safety precautions.. : )

  • @saradreaming Very nice compliment! Thank you!

  • Well said, the word is experience! The knowledge or skills acquired by over a period of time. I enjoyed this Fantastic Exercise & lesson in knife skills! Thank you, Dustin! :-)

  • @JPilot2 You're welcome. It felt good to make this one!

  • @IHatchetJack I like it too, it was wonderful exercise in wood carving!

  • Great vid for the beginners and the experienced. I like the way you picked a project and used that to show the techniques needed to complete it. BTW I saw that spindle coming from a mile away. Nice.

  • @surjracer56 Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Can you do another video with your 44 mag?

  • @ckk1106 Dunno... That sucker is kindof expensive to shoot. What would you like to see it do?

  • Great video Dusty my friend. God bless. John

  • @snaponjohn100 Thanks, John!

  • When I heard the sirens in the background, I was sure that the local constabulary had heard of the mass basketball muders in your neighborhood. ;-)

  • @scotth6107 Hah! I'm gonna go down in a blaze of glory if they ever come for me!

  • nice knife skills, those look like some great woods back there, i'll have to check if there's any hunting videos, great video!

  • @mrchriscam Sadly it's all neighborhood. We have plenty of squirrels and the occasional deer. It's not downtown Atlanta, but it's still closer to the city than I'd like to be.

  • nice video,

    fredde

  • @hobbexp Thanks, Fredde!

  • I already have my carbon Clipper, I gotta get some Willow... :-))

  • @Woodenarrows Shouldn't be too hard to find in your area. I'd imagine basswood grows down your way too.

  • Hatch , you're great at catching stuff on fire, figuring ways to whack stuff with rocks, slice stuff up with knives, and then use what's left, and what you sliced up, to start more fires. I admit, I'm stumped as to how you're going to do something dangerous or start up some trouble with soapstone. But I have faith in you and am a patient guy. Thanks for another fun vid.

  • @pestleman1951 I'll find something to do with it...I already have an idea or two!

  • good stuff

  • Great video. Thanks for posting this.

  • @nextexhale You're welcome!

  • My left hand thanks you very much! Great lesson. I got a lot out of it. Thanks again! I look forward to getting my bow drill set and practicing with it.

  • @PhylBeeMe Let me know when you get it!

  • sweet video...nice instructional......

  • @sousaville Thanks!

  • Awesome video, i love using dead willow for friction fire spindles

  • @Survivalvideos1 Willow works wonderfully!

  • Thanks Bro, Great vid for of us beginners : )
