i have a emachines 3l1333g with an amd 64 bit processor and 2 gigs of ram. but when i burned ideneb 1.6 on the dvd and booted it, i get to apple boot logo. which eventually gets a little circle with a strike over it over the logo. what do i do?
So, how did you manage to do it? I got an emachine PC that I don't really use any more (T5048) and I have been trying to get OS X installed but failing to do so. I just want to create apps for my ipod touch with IOS sdk!!!
actually andydamg i think your missing the point.. he's running osx on a emachine. when the time comes he can upgrade all the internal parts.. motherboard ram intel. and for 3 or 400 dollars he'll have a faster mac osx than half the 2k machines sold in apple! talking 700 dollars for a quick running mac compared to the 1700 in the stores!
i have a eMachines t3410 with an AMD Chip and its running leopard 10.5.8 just want to let ppl know that it is also compatible with leopard but only iAtkos
Oh and if you want to know if your PC is compatible, just google OSX86 wiki and look under compatible desktops. If your PC isn't compatible with one version, keep looking it may be compatible with others.
OSX86 is expanding to many computers that don't even have the highest specs. I have a Dell B130 running OSX86 on 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and an Intel 915GMA and it's running really smooth. Windows runs like crap compared to it. This is a four year computer and windows aero isn't supported on it, but with OSX86 I get shadows + taskbar transparency. It's well worth it. I still dual boot windows for certain apps though, but I find myself using it less and less.
Sorry for saying it's a Celeron D, it is a Pentinum D. But still, Core 2 Duo > Pentinum D. And the fact that Mac are incredibly reliable, and last for years. There are still web servers running on Mac SE/30s, which was introduced in 1989. The reason people buy Macs is for the high quality build of the HARDWARE. If Mac owners bought Macs just for OSX, they'd all be using OSX86.
You guys think that this compares to a Mac just because it can run OSX. You guys don't notice the Celeron D in the eMachines. For $200 more, you would be getting a Core 2 Duo. I still don't see a $500 PC desktop that has a Core 2 Duo. And you better have paid for that copy of Leopard.
I often read on the hackintosh "how to" sites to buy a copy of Leopard...buying a copy of it doesn't make it any more legal in any way. If we are violating their agreement and the law...buying a copy doesn't make it any less illegal. It just makes some nerds sleep better at night with very poor logic skills (called denial)...
Actually, I built a quad core HTPC for $419 total and it does compare to a Mac. Macs, are, after all, only PC's with the Trusted Platform Module and a different operating system. I always liked the Macs because they used processors descended from the Motorola 68000 line which was far more efficient than the Intel CPU's. Now, Macs are just PC's... sigh
The operating systems are totally different though dude. the interface and usability of a mac is far superior to windows in my opinion. that matters alot too.
@GIMEchip I wrote this comment a long time ago, and my view has changed a lot more like yours. I like both. I'm actually at my community college in a computer basics class on Windows 7. Easiest class ever might I add. But I can't say I hate Windows 7. I just don't like a few things that have been changed around. Its still nice though. I like OS X and 7 equally for different reasons.
@hvrock13 Agreed - each has it's strengths and weaknesses - only by using both, as you and I do, can an informed comparison truly be made. They both are nice in their own ways.
Wow. What is the exact model and specs of this computer? I've tried Hackintosh installations relatively unsuccessfully with an old HP laptop, and I'm up to try it again with desktop. I'd like to keep it cheap.
Oh Would it "look prettier"??? I bet it would be so "elegant" wouldn't it???? Silly Fanboy.. I have 3 Macs and an eMachine Hackintoish.. and while my $1000 Macbook is a bit faster than my Hackintoish, the $300 Hackintoish blows away my $600 Intel/nVidia Mini, by a bunch...
A $1500 Apple would dramatically outspec this eMachine in probably every single aspect. It would also look better, be more practical, be more innovative, and functional than this cheap thing assembled from generic out of the box PC components and thrown into an ugly plastic and metal box.
So, don't say that computer would have cost you $1500 it it were an "Apple," because you're paying for a hell of a lot more computer than that, and Apple just doesn't bother to build $300 junk like this.
Don't get mad because your real Macintosh computer you payed $1500 is barely better than this EMachine he bought for $300.
And if you wanna talk hardware, than I don't think comparing a $1500 Mac to a $1500 PC would be very smart. You're paying for software when it comes to a Mac, not hardware.
but the software is damn good. have you seen ilife? i thought it was bloatware till i checked it out. garageband is AMAZING and imovie is far superior than windows movie maker. iphoto is a great photo management program, and iweb is nice too for any person new to web site design. still, they shouldnt force you to buy the ilife suite with your mac, but its still nice. if you didnt pay for the software, a mac would be pretty cheap for a good computer.
It's really not that tough to make audio, ethernet/wireless or anything else you're having issues with work. Someone out there has patched everything.
I tried doing during the summer with my T5230 with nvidia 8500GT, but leopard has no good support for 8500GT, so I can't change the resolution to 1680x1050
My mother in law has an eMachines also. It's an Intel Celeron - would this still work on hers? Also, what about graphics and sound? She doesn't do much on hers Vista except email and playing Pogo online. Thanks for your answer. :)
