  • Nope, the generator was clean and worked as it should and the 500 stove worked fine -- however, a properly working 533 can put out more heat. That is my experience but moreover Coleman rated the 500 at 7,500 btu and the 533 at 10,500 btu. I use them for heating water or cooking, I'll leave the pot burning to you.

  • @fratermus - thank you, we will see what we can do, but they could play havoc with our fire alarms in the studio.

  • I like your stove reviews, but feel they would be more complete with an actual lighting demonstration. Please consider it!

  • This is an awsome stove bulky and a tad heavy but very good and reliable.

  • @strawalker

Its a very simple stove. Now the grandfather of this particular stove the 500 speedmaster was a larger, hotter and much more robustly built ( made form 1939 to 1972 ). It was so well made unmodified versions were made for the Canadian army and eroupean countries.

The 533 is a good stove in its own right but has flaw. The gas generator can't be cleaned. This means you must buy a replacement and findinf parts can be very difficult.

I like the 500 also, but the 533 is a much hotter stove than the 500. The 500 is a bit underpowered but a great stove for cooking. The 533 is maybe a little too hot for fine cooking but great for a quick boil up..

  • @beenerboy

You must have used a 500 that needed a new gen.

There is enough heat and power there to melt and distort steel burner plate.

You can burn the bottom out of an aluminum pan or pot in very shrot order.

But it has a proper vlave to adjustthe flame so you can simmer on it just as easy
