there isnt really any need to harness your cats, let alone walk them. Let them outside on their own, or if you cant do that, then buy some cat toys and play with them. It's a good way to get them active
Why doesn't it matter if you can understand it or not? You actually can by its body language and its pitch of voice. Just watch and listen... it isn't that hard of a thing to do.
Anyway, I'm currently training my cat, Niun, to harness. Hes a 2-year-old ginger, and doesn't mind the harness much. Its just the traffic he dislikes, and gets really frightened by it. So I'm in a bit of a dilemma, I'm going to drive around today and search for parks where I can take him.
my fat cat charlie got his very first harness we had to get him one for a medium sized dog lol and he didnt like it very much i took him out side with it a couple times and he would either just sit there or try to run he got out of it a couple times but were still workin on it!
Mine still get the boneless response to their jackets. They don't try and throw themselves out of it like your savannah did, but the flop down and look tragic. All the response a wand toy gets is a feeble paw wave as they couldn't possibly get up to chase it! Funny beasts, they'll get used to it soon.
i feel that the best walking jacket is the "H" Jacket, i havent seen a cat who can get out of that. i think the pet stores should have them and not just the harnesses.
LOL, those are not my cats. I wanted to make a video on how to train your cats to walk on a leash so I need to have access to a bunch of kittens. I contacted a breeder friend of mine that had 3 kittens and a few of her cats there.
Initially around 5-10 min a day until he can walk around and feel comfortable with it on. You will find once you get them outside the kind of forget they have it on and will go exploring.
I have never seen a walking jacket before. Very interesting. I bought a harness for my cat but she just goes on her back and refuses to move. Are walking jackets preferable to harnesses?
It will take a while for them to get used to the harness or walking jacket. I feel that walking jackets are more secure and will not let them wiggle out of it.
Exactly! It was really good to show that most cats feel paralysed by the walking jacket, even though eventually they adjust just nicely and barely notice when it is on.
I am so glad I watched this before I tried it! I would have thought that my cat was never going to get the hang of it if he was so off balance by having it on for the first time!
Thanks for doing this series, it is a real service to newbies, and helps to see so many examples of cats and their reactions!
I will normally put the walking jacket on for 5 min at a time inside then try to get them to play first. Once they are comfortable then it's time to try the great outdoors.

why they have it so difficult to walk normal with that harnass??
is it because it's to tight??
MauroArzu 2 years ago
They can walk just fine, they are afraid of having something strapped on them that they cant get off.

yes, some adjust quicker than others but on average it takes just a few times. 5 to 10 minutes at a go
