  • I was pissed They curse Samson he was a beast! You can lift towards the end but it wasn't the same!

  • @Milkchocalatte24 Sure it was. When you compare all the people together when they all get the upgraded class, he'll be back to doing top damage.

  • Yeah man you did get into an ass load of random battles with no healing! This was almost impossible to beat....but I did it!

  • Dont hate on this game! this game was AWESOME. yYu not supposed to just run through bosses like most RPGs I played. In this game you babrely escape them more fun more realistic loved it wish it had a sequel

  • @icykid As great as the game was, such odds were non-existant off the bat due to ratings from; difficulty, lack of promises made to test the PS1, and people who hate grinding in such RPG games. However, one can probably make their own with some of the RPG makers of today, and still get just as satisfying of a result.

  • I both hated and loved this puzzle. I liked the music, and once I got the hang of the first half it was okay. I just absolutely HATED how many fights I get. It's like you take one step with the acorn, BATTLE.

  • Oh lawd. I got this game new and never beat it. Tried several summers. I think the developers poured all their hate, malice, and will to dominate into this. I always thought if you cracked the game open souls would fly out like when Shao Kahn died in mortal kombat. I don't think the disk is made of plastic rather compressed ashes of executed murderers. Thats why my first PS1 broke.. this fuckin game. Do your self and your loved ones a favor and throw this game into Mt. doom where it belongs.

  • What is the begin theme music name?

  • I never beat this game... and I hated the tree maze. Ohh god I think I have PTSD from this game lol! But it was actually challenging :) not like the crap they put out nowadays.

  • Anyone who played this game long enough to get the golden orbs (the item that would let you teleport to your "left out" character) deserves the God like feeling that came with that ability.

This was the greatest most frustrating game I ever hated--and couldn't wait to play again.

  • This game was terrible! My brother beat, but with the help of many drugs...

  • @freddyoro This game is not terrible! The battles are so amazing and everyone has fun and different attacks and magic...and the music is amazing!

  • @Senshiboi99 I agree. This game is not terrible. It also doesn't suck big time.

  • @SandBarAndYou I always have fun getting through the game.

  • @Senshiboi99 I do agree with you, I recently started playing through the game. Once you get through the early portions of the game things really start to pick up. It can be tedious because of the high encounter rates, But I think it's just the game preparing us for the final boss which is just....insane.

  • Damn it Kevin why did you link me to this game! It was the worst thing I ever played! Oh god the repressed memories, there all coming back!

  • This looks familiar.......I remember this in a game magazine I had about 96/97, but wasn't it for the Sega Saturn?

  • @ruekurei88 no PS1 It is my favorite RPG of all time!

  • Haha this game has SUCH a bad rep...and honestly, it's not my favorite RPG or anything - but it was a lot of fun back in the day. Poor BtB. ;(

  • lol edward at 1:18

  • I raise my sword to that! This game was so underrated and wasn't appreciated enough.

  • is this as good as golden sun?

  • @dethronethesonofgod way better

  • I dig yer Star Ocean handel haha. Ever play Valkyrie Profile??? Three words FAB-U-LOUS! I'm inspired to purchase this game off Half.Com again ^_~ Cheers!!

  • @9mmPrince its ok (just kiddin) i love vp too 1,2,and3 BUT I LOVE THIS GAME MORE!!! =D

  • Good game. One thing about it if anyone wants to play it... GAIN LEVELS LIKE CRAZY! It's mad hard. I always found myself hanging by a thread after the boss fights. Sand castle is the best place to do it I think. If you can survive at the bottom of that place, you're all set.

  • I miss this game

  • @9mmPrince i just ordered it and got it again!!lol thats how much i missed it

  • I ordered this from Bree Games in the late 90s, and back then that was gamestop lol!

  • BATTLE 4 SONG 7:39 YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THIS GAME DOESNT GET THE HONOR IT DESERVES! IM RATING IT 10 ON EVERYTHING

  • BATTLE 4 SONG 7:39 YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GO EDWARD GO!!!! USE THAT FIRE

  • GO EDWARD GO!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • LOVE THE SONG AT 0:46 ITS GREAT

  • I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS THIS IS THE BEST (THATS RIGHT THE BEST)RPG EVER!!!

  • I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS THIS IS THE BEST (THATS RIGHT THE BEST)RPG EVER!!!!

  • i love this this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its so long time ago that i played this game ... i enjoyed to play that ^^

  • I loved this game sooooo much. =)

  • Oh... My... God..... Best game Ever. Nothing Else to Say. This brings back so many memories. It is for me the perfect style of RPG.

  • This game isn't bad.Sure it has big ecounter rate and some similiar mistakes, but still this game is a classic and the first traditional RPG to be released on PSX.

  • Looool... Camelot nearly copied and pasted their previous title during creating the "Tret Tree" dungeon in the first Golden Sun. I'm slightly... disapointed, as a fan of the GS series.

  • Thing is, nobody ever played this game, so they figured noone would notice.

  • 80's menu really bad with search and talk wtf and this was a 1995/1996 game lol. And you could only save in town it was like playing dragon warrior back in the

80's only this game was more pain with over 1,000 random encounters and was it fun not really in my opinion.

  • doesn't samson stay cursed for most of the game until at the end when u find this ancient wizard that lifts it?

  • Sure is Golden Sun in here.

  • i love this game...its just pure rpg. one of hte first rpg games on psx

  • Haha this reminds me a lot of Golden Sun, maybe because Camelot was involved in both... Camelot was important in many RPG's... well, exept for this one...

  • This actually reminded me alot of Shning The Holy Ark... the texts and the animation are not mistakeable. I wish they rereleased that game....

  • what platform is this for?

  • the platform for this game is ps1/psx

  • i wouldn't wish this game upon my worst enemy. seriously. it's that tedious and frustrating.

  • I found it easier to recruit Tont before taking on the Temple. Obviously having another Character makes your job much more helpful. (Firedrake WOOHOO!!!)

  • I totally agree with you there, having tont on the party makes the game way easier.

  • Yup. He has very powerful magic and it doesnt cost much MP. and just having another person in battle makes it less stressful. (especially when Samson is Cursed ugh you need all the help you can get.)

  • What's kinda funny is that a lot of people were frustrated on this part and I got through it with no troubles.... and I was 8 or 9 at the time lol.

  • Yeah me too. I got stuck after Zalagoon. I had no idea what to do.

  • The part I found most frustrating was getting the lunar crescent or whatever. After that, things seemed less difficult than they really were.

  • Exactly. I was stuck there until a few years ago lol. I was Stuck in that Temple because I thought that the only treasure was a Smoke Bomb lol.

  • Beyond the Beyond....the game that almost single-handedly destroyed any possibility for the US to have RPGs on the next gen systems.

  • awesome vid....favorite game of ALL time....finished with all the secret characters....percy was so badass later on

  • The text font and character sprites remind me of Shining Force.

  • This was one of the best games i've ever owned on psx. I remember there was a terrible enigma, something that had to turn the day into the night (or somethin like that), me and my friends spent a lot of time before to understand it, but afterall we were only 16 eheh

  • is this game like the old dragon warrion and dragon quest where you have to pick the talk icon on the menu and the search icon just to get shit done??

  • 0:50 is the best battle music in the game.

  • hells yeah. 7:36 is my favorite, but they're all awesome tunes.

  • Too bad Camelot Software Planning is not making a sequel to this game.

Someone should start a petition to finally get a Beyond The Beyond sequel, focusing on Finn and his friends exploring the Underworld and Common World in search for Lord Kevins.

  • I never finished the game. Too hard. What happened to Sir Kevins? And who was the final boss if not Shutat?

  • A God from the Underworld named Akkidas.

  • It would be nice, seeing as how I liked what camelot did with the Golden Sun titles. It would be nice to see another beyond the beyond......on the Wii,DS or where.

  • This game....I just recently found in a bargain bin at gamecrazy for a deal of 5 PSX games for five dollars.I pretty much had to dig into the pile of shitty games to find this one buried underneath all the maddens and nba psx titles on top. This game has a special place in my heart even if it left alot of frustrating scars....aka the last boss was a headache and the cave before getting there was no joke....like you'd face monsters super hard every 1-2 steps I think. such a good old gem.

  • I use to own this game for 10 years. xD I was stuck for 7 years at the Mist Valley trying to get to Domino. -.- So, I was overly far too high at the same place. Like, level 60 or something. xP But this is my favorite game. 5/5

  • This game is pretty cool. The ending implied a definite sequel though. Too bad I guess.

  • I can never decide whether I love this game or completely hate it. It had some serious potential, but the ending was weak and you got into a random battles about every three steps you took. That was nuts.

  • I love the music on the games

  • wow !!! i was 11 when i played this!!

    ...fuck me

does any one remeber the random upper cuts and blue leap attacks??? lol i use to mash all the buttons to do that.

  • i wanna cry dude this was the 1st rpg i ever played and ill never forget it

  • This Game is a Legend. First RPG for the PS. and look what it brought to the world today Final Fantasy1~13 and many more, we should really appreciate the fact when we see to the eyes i hope they remake this game, i never did get to finish it but i knew i was half way. /salute to you gamerz. Play hard.

  • final fantasy 1-6 came out before this game, and I don't think the rest were influenced at all by this game. It still holds a special place in my heart though.

  • I bought this game the day it came out since there was no U.S. RPG yet. It was HORRIBLE!!! I cant believe I spent $50 on this festering pile of rat feces. I never even finished it; stupid tree maze!

  • god forbid a game would have difficulty.

  • Haha I leveled up on the one with the puzzle then killed the stupid witch. Soon as I came back she came to life and attacked me again.

  • I wish they made Beyond the Beyond 2

  • @REdude4 Sony still owns the IP hopefully one day!

  • can you PLEASE go in order?

  • motoi sakuraba (the mastermind behind the music of star ocean, tales series, and even eternal sonata!) is the man behind the music here. i love that overworld and one of the battle themes

  • I hated that damn shifting puzzle in the fucking tree. I've always sucked at those types of puzzles. Only good thing this game has going is its music.

  • that guy with the mask in cave before the las is annies brother .. if you keep doing defend, he joins your team

  • @humble415 It's getting through the dungeon thats the problem

  • Samson being stuck with that crappy curse made me dislike that part of the game. It kind of got better once you began your trek to Bandore & got a ship afterward, but...this game has too many problems to deal with beforehand.

  • first game i ever played and owned i love this game

  • oh god I've beaten this game more times than I can count. I dunno how sad that makes me. regardless, it was a pretty amazing rpg if you had the patience for it and the music was so ridiculously good. glad it's on youtube in some form

  • I can't believe you actually beat this game more than once.

  • so did I. Its not that hard after Samson is cured.

  • Wow, I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I don't think I ever beat it...but I believe I had Samson uncursed and that guy *spoiler* who "died" had reappeared. Do you remember that puzzle where it was like..that grid of shifting pieces, but if you left it midway through, that crazy witch lady would just kill you instantly?

  • lol yea i tried to level up and see if i can kill her ..lmao.. i beat this game in 96... i love this game though

  • This was a very underrated game.

The cave near the end of the game (the one where one wrong step and you got sucked into an invisible hole which dropped you down a level) had the be the hardest level in almost any RPG I have played. I really wanted to take the PS and throw it across the room...

  • One of the greatest games i've ever played. It was rather silly at many points, but certainly enjoyable. :3

  • this game is similar to Golden sun o.o

for what console it is? PSX?

  • Yup, this is for PSX

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH. I NEVER BEAT THE TREE MAZE. This was the first RPG I ever played, and the tree maze made me go apeshit crazy and made me stop playing it. Now I can FINALLY beat this damn game.

  • Ok thanks..... now I've completed that insane puzzle..... could have pulled my hair out......(no patience)

  • How did you get past the maze in the church? The one after when you rescued Edward and Samson got cursed.....

  • Man.. That puzzle took me a long time. It's totally trial-and-error. What helped me complete it was to focus on the edges of the puzzle first and then fill in the rest without moving the edge pieces too much. Does that make sense? Kind of hard to explain.

  • @CecilMcW00t Hardest part of the game is the puzzle in the last dungeon though, oh this game brings back a lot of good memories

  • this game was way to hard

  • It definitely had its' frustrating moments, and the encounter rate is aggrevating, but all in all I think it's a pretty fun RPG.

This is the game I got when I first purchased my original PlayStation in 1996, and for an early entry to the system's life, it was kind of impressive looking compared to the SNES RPG library which was starting to look stale by that point.

  • The field battle music is my favorite song in the game.

  • One of the first games I bought for the PSX. To be honest I didn't finish it, because once Samson gets cursed, he made the fights too hard for me to deal with...so I cut my losses and quit the game. Came back 4 years later and played up to the part where Domino joins but my save corrupted! Ugh. Great video though!
