  • Good Job embracing your heritage @stratford867 I am of Creole descent a lil lighter then you but my hair isn't as fine combed. its funny how my family looks we have some who are so bright they past for white and some so dark. My Grandmother had 10 siblings 5 of them came out light 5 came out dark. The creole culture is very diverse and its what america should be. We embrace everything i eat everything from shrimp et tu fe to fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. I love my heritage

  • Cajuns and creoles are two different things

  • am from the seychelles islands,we speak creole everyday,we use english and french also,

  • I didn't know YouTube had vids like this. Good job anyways

  • CREOLE Has nothing to do with color it may have back in the day but no race is pure we all change we all evolve!!

  • HEY, I am happy to see u embracing ur heritage u can definitely see the french features and as a blk woman from Louisiana with Creole genes on my father's side I embrace that pat of myself as well. I think u should do more videos. I think more people should know more about the creole heritage. Great vid!

  • tout' neg sé neg, assé fè sik épi kô zôt

  • my family is creole . Aaron you rock. :)

  • Yes i undertsand what tyou are saying and here on youtuibe there are alot of us(creoles) on here. Keep making vids take care

  • You are wrong on so many levels. Cajuns and Creoles are two complete distinct heritages. I suggest you do some research. Furthermore, Hispanic is not a a race it is an ethnicity. There are black Hispanics like Sammy Sosa and white Hispanics like Cameron Diaz. Mexicans and Brazilians are nationalities not ethnicities! Educate yourself before opening your mouth and sounding stupid.

  • Cajuns and Creoles are not the same thing, which is what you said at 0:36.

  • Creoles are NOT BLACK!

  • @chsn09 what are we then

  • I am surprise now people wants to be consider Creole. When I was coming up in the 50's & 60"s, it was shameful to speak Creole or consider yourself Creole. Aaron isn't familiar with Creole dishes or the people. Aaron do some research about the French Creoles. Is Creole, French Verlan? Just kidding.

  • @MrMusicourbano Your right about everything except that Lala is full Puerto Rican.

  • @ElMatatan003...well...Lala is from Brooklyn, New York...and both her parents were also born in New York...so you could say she is of Puerto Rican heritage/ancestry...but she ain't actually from Puerto Rico though. Remember guys, "Puerto Rican" is not a race, it is a nationality. Take it from me; born, raised, and still currently living in Puerto Rico...big difference between me...and someone whose' great-great grandparents happened to live in Puerto Rico at one point lol.

  • Fats Domino was Louisiana Creole.

  • Napoleon decided to sell his American territory to the United States because he feared the rebellion in San Domingue would spread throughout the Americas. That's what brought about the Louisiana Purchase. Many in Louisiana today consider themselves American only by default.

  • @cfortnerXYZ Hmm, I've always read that he sold it because he needed the war to expand his war in Europe. His empire was stretched thin, and he needed to cut the fat. The Louisiana territory was the fat, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to protect it from the British, so he sold it to the U.S instead of losing it in a war. That's a run on sentence.

  • The free people of color who came to Louisiana after the revolution on the island of San Domingue (now both the Dominican Republic and Haiti) were not slaves, although some became slave owners and a few brought slaves with them. They were merchants, professional people, craftsmen and working class and moved between white, black, and Creole cultures as they chose. Those are just general insights, over the years the lines have blurred. The honor and resilliance remain.

  • The Cajun peole came from a French province in Canada called Acadia and were expelled by the British. They settled in Southwest Louisiana and their French language is more "country French" from the south of France. The Creoles of both the red river country and New Orleans spoke or some still speak a more Parisian style.

There were contract marriages between the sons of white planters and young ladies of mixed blood who were the most beautiful in the world. More? Google: Octaroon Balls.

  • Respect! Thank You. I'm going to try to explain a little more.

The Creoles are descendants of the French and Spanish people who came here from the old country Creole supposedly meaning "born here" as opposed to born in the old country. There are black, indian and white Creoles (see George Washington Cable's writings especially his novel The Grandissimes. A good many black Creoles of French ancestry were educated in France and became quite successful.

  • Carmelo Anthony is Hispanic (Puerto Rican), Zoe Saldana (Puerto Rican, Dominican), half the black MLB players are either Dominican, Puerto Rican, or Cuban, the father of black history Arturo Schomberg was a Puerto Rican man, Carlton Banks from "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" is Dominican. NORE the rapper is Puerto Rican, Jim Jones "Ballin" also Puerto Rican, Lala Vasquez Carmelo's wife is Puerto Rican, Felix Trinidad the boxer is Puerto Rican. There are alot of famous black people who are Hispanic.

  • @ElMatatan003 Nah I take that back, Jim Jones is half Puerto Rican half some other Carribean island, NORE is full Puerto Rican, Lala Vasques is full.

  • Damn brah talking about, knowing and understanding race and ethnicity, when you aint got it down right yoself.

Hispanic is not race, as you probably know Hispanics aren't just Mexicans or Mestizo people, being from where you are, I could understand why you might confuse. But look hispanic is only a word made to group people who speak Latin, whether its Creole, Spanish, French, Portugusee. There are black, mulatto, arab, asain, white, meztiso, hispanics. Im full PuertoRican im biracial mulatto.

  • by any chance can u speak Creole?

  • cajuns were the french that came from canada when the british settled their. Creole and cajun are seperate but in a way they both came from the same place

  • my mother is Creole :)

  • My family's from New Orleans as am I and, I was always told the Canadians who came down to New Orleans, arcadians, were the Cajuns, the mixing of the local indians, blacks, white and sometime Spanish consist of the creole

  • @courud7346 This is exactly true.

  • hold on creole is a language

  • So...my grandmother is from New Orleans. She moved to Ohio, married, had kids, had my mom...their father is from Toledo Ohio. Then my mother married, had my brother and me. Our father is from Philadelphia. So you are saying that I am only 1/4 Creole? It is VERY evident that I have other races. I embrace my African-American Culture AND my Creole culture...but I am only a quarter...I think my DNA is saying otherwise, LOL! Help me out with this...appreciate it!

  • @LadyJade217 You can't be 1/4 creole...either you are or you ain't because it's an ethnicity. If you choose to identify as creole, you can. Creole is not a race.

  • @sambo861 Thank you! This was my thought in the first place, but I keep hearing people say 1/2 this and 1/4 that (i.e. Beyonce saying she's half Creole)...SMH. Creole is an ethnicity...I agree with that. In fact, Creole means "mixed"...so my grandfather and father just added to the mix, LOL! I do identify myself as Creole, I just needed someone who had more knowledge since most of this history is gone. Again, I thank you for clearing up what I personally felt in my heart to be true!

  • @LadyJade217 Hahaha, no problem..but one more thing. Creole does not mean mixed race. It means "native to" or "local". In our context local or native to louisiana. But louisiana creole is influenced by african, european, and native american cultures. But it does not mean someone has to be mixed with any of the two. That's why I emphasize that there are black, white, native american, and mixed race creoles. Anyway, glad to help you out. Anymore questions, just write me.

  • @sambo861 Okay thanks for clearing that up!

  • umm you look black to me not even light skin .Your features look very black:)

  • @avamilan You can be 100 percent black and still creole. Creole identifies the who have roots in louisiana before it became a territory of the United States in 1803. You can be black, white, mixed, or native american and still be 100 percent creole.

  • latino is not a race:) Im cuban

  • um hispanic is not a race

  • soo are Creole people french&&black.?

  • @RiyaNdCandy13 Creole people can be white, black, or mixed. Creole refers to people who have roots that are traced to louisiana before it became a louisiana territory. The main difference between black americans and black creoles is that we have different roots. Our slave masters spoke french, were catholic, and we spoke french creole/french. Our descent is latin based. Whereas black americans have an ANGLO based culture. That's really the main difference. IT'S NOT A RACE.

  • omg hey arron i didnt know u where la native. But yea he is right his brother looks just like him in the dark version or something lol. This is talisa

  • @smartone23yea Yes, I never talked about it a lot. One reason is that I knew very little of my family history. Where do I know you from?

  • @stratford867 i think your brother or deja i forgot lol but ive seen you out before i knew your bro......you probibly dont remember me though its been like a year or two maybe.

  • so you dnt consider yourself blk? If you dnt thats weird cause you look just like a bl guy. I have ancestors from spain germany and some are indian but when i look in the mirror i see a blk girl. What do you see when you look in the mirror?

  • @blackspaniard1025 I never said I wasnt black if you look at the video again. I said my heritage is louisiana creole. I have lived my life in southeast texas, and I know where my roots come from. Dated back to 1850. My parents are older, and grandparents deceased. Put it this way they are so much older that my grandfather was a sharecropper

  • @stratford867 Wow.. I never knew that there were natives from America that actually spoke Creole. I was born in Haiti and my parents came down here with me when i was about 5 and remember how the kids back then were so cruel because of my accent...... I honestly though that I would have had a hard time with the white people when I came to the U.S. but it was my own people that rideculed and mocked the way that I spoke.

  • LOL hispanic isn't a race its an ethnicity Black, white, Asian those are races

  • @CobaltSpieder777 lol so what race is Jennifer Lopez? EVa Longoria? Shakira?

  • @cchllover Jennier lopez is Puerto Rican..most Puerto Ricans are of mixed descent some have more European (white) ancestors, some have more African (Black) and others (probably a good majority of them) have Native American ancestors (Native Americans are considered to be Mongoloids/Asian. Shakira is Columbian her ancestry is probably similar to Jennifer Lopez's but they are not spanish people their island was just conquered by the Spanish (European) thats why they speak Spanish

  • @CobaltSpieder777 Shakira is half middle eastern (Lebanese) and half Italian/Spanish (from Spain).

  • @cchllover Eva Longoria's ethnicity is Mexican, her race like the other two is probably a mixture of a couple of things..ex. Native American (Asian) , European (white) and African (black). In america almost no one is purely one race anymore..the blacks are not completely black some have European ancestors and some have Native American. The whites are not purely White some are mixed with Native American and black etc.

  • my dad is creole

  • Je suis créole! My roots are also from Beaumont and Louisiana.

  • i am french creole, french, Native American, Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch.

i LOV E being Creole and i could not be any more proud of my heritage.

  • Creole does not have to mean a certain color of people. It refers to a time in Colonial French history. It encompassed Louisiana, Southeast Texas, Southwest Mississippi (and is language, culture), creoles share a distinct difference from cajuns b/c of a major difference in language and culture although they did mix up.

  • UH CREOLE IN THE BUILDING!!!

  • The Louisiana Creole Heritage Center is asking for a small membership fee of 8 dollars a month to help them stay open. They are at high risk of closing. Please spread the word! I just sent them a check for 30 dollars.

  • Aaron hispanic is not a race. It also is a ethic background. There are white hispanics and black hispanics. Just a little knowledge for you.

    Take care

  • I love being creole.I live in New York but I hang on to my heritage.I speak creole because I grew up in Texas and Louisiana. My grandmother taught me to speak creole.Everyone here is always asking me what race I am.Thanks for the video. It helped me to explain it to my homies here in Rochester,NY.

  • all i kno is creol is based on french african and portugese bcuz creole rites in portugese

  • omg yur cutee

  • All I can say is that I'm proud to be a creole lady!

  • Yes we do exist and NO we are not going anywhere !!!! I am proud to be Creole and happy to know I am not alone in the world

  • Yess!! Thnx 4 this vid...I'm creole and rep it to the fullest, my dad's family is from New Orleans and Opelouses(however u spell it) and I live in Houston too(:

  • Could you explain the difference between Creole and Cajun? I know language is one of them.

  • @DeuceMP2 Creole is basically the blacks and cajuns are the whites because through out slavery days it was all Creole and the whites wanted to be seen different then blacks so they came up with Cajun.

  • @DeuceMP2 The cajuns are the whites, and the blacks are the creoles

  • @stratford867 Hispanic and Latinos are NOT a race lmao. All that means is speaking Spanish. There are millions of blacks that come from Spanish speaking countries. Same with whites.

  • @chsn09 - Not all Latino are speak spanish. Haitians and Brazilians are Latinos too but they don't speak Spanish. Haitians speak French and French Creole, while Brazilians speak Portuguese. So please educate yourself a little bit more.

  • @HaitianTruthNetwork LMFAO. I know that already. You are NOT telling me anything that I don't know already. I was referring to how the term is used in the USA and that is for Spanish speaking populations

  • @chsn09 - Oh Sorry ! I thought you were just specifically saying that latinos were just spanish speaking.

  • @HaitianTruthNetwork LOL. I was saying that Latinos are just Spanish speaking when it comes to how the grouping and term is used in the USA. The USA is Latino and Hispanic to mean the same thing in the USA.

I know that Latin(o) is a term that technically encompasses not just Spanish speaking populations, but French, Portuguese, Romanian, and Italian speaking populations

  • @chsn09 - I know what you mean now, because at first I misinterpreted what you were saying.

  • @HaitianTruthNetwork ''please educate yourself more" no-one can educate themselves in a way that gives them knowledge they can communicate. we all need teachers, so let up a bit and show the guy what he needs to know. you didnt teach yourself to speak did you? etc etc

  • @stratford867 - Not all Creoles are black. Because I'm Creole and I'm not black.

  • @stratford867 that's def not true

  • @DeuceMP2 creole refers to a social group (blacks whose slave ancestors developed the language) and the language they speak, Louisiana Creole. Cajuns speak a different language, called Cajun French, which is more of a dialect of French instead of the full-fledged language that Louisiana Creole is. Cajuns are descendants of French Canadian immigrants from Acadia, now modern day Nova Scotia (Cajun is a reinterpretation of the word Acadien).

  • @DeuceMP2 Louisiana Creole (LC) is a full-fledged language spoken predominantly by the black community in southern Louisiana, whose slave ancestors developed the language in order to communicate with their French-speaking masters. LC has many of the same words as French, but uses a grammatical structure borrowed from a combination of West African languages. A creole is any language that grows from a pidgin, a temporary language used to communicate in a colonial setting. Haitian creole is similar

  • @DeuceMP2 The difference is NOT white vs. black. I mean the original Creoles of Louisiana are White, we have many French Creoles who are White. There has been some who have taken on a term "Cajun" and so some think White means Cajun. The term Cajun is relatively new to Louisiana coming into play after the 1950s. The Louisiana culture is completely Creole, it was the term used to describe the culture for centuries. Visit my wall to see a video about Cajun/Creole history!

  • yes my people are here to stay

  • My ethnicisty is Haitian anf you are right, because I to identify with my ethnicity more then my color. being black to me is constant it is evident to th th world. I like when blacks claim their ethnicity. it is your ethnicity that tells people your heritage your languacge your culture, your histiory, the music your eat the food you ingest.

  • @cvzdez well of course you like claim anything but black. your haitian lol dominicans made yall feel like shit cuz of your very black skin. so that makes sence for you

  • comment ca va?

  • i thought creole define the first generation was creole? and cajun was spanish in origin?

  • @fnlmjl1 both are the same origin. But divided to identify the blacks and whites

  • @stratford867 Actually I'm French creole and Cajuns are swamp people who came from Canada so they are not from Spanish decent or French origin.

  • @t7t7t8 what do you mean the cajun are not of french origin? they were french canadian who fled canada to settle in the french louisiane because of british persecution

  • @stratford867 No: the difference between Cajuns and Creoles is not mainly one of race, but of historical origin. The Cajuns were the people who were expelled from the French Maritime islands in Canada after the French and Indian War, which I think was the mid-1700's if I remember correctly. You correct everybody on "race" and "ethnicity", while you yourself are mixed up on the issue. R-E-S-E-A-R-C-H.

  • @fnlmjl1 cajuns and creoles are both of french origins. Cajun (Cadiens) came to Louisiana from Acadie Canada. Creole were the French People who borned in the French Tropical colonies. They can be white, mixed, or black that's not the matter. You have Creoles in Louisiana, Haïti, French West Indies (Guadeloupe, Martinique, etc.), French Guyane for the caraibes french colonies, and in La Réunion, Mauritius, and Seychelles for the Indian Ocean french colonies.

  • @nanceio

French People borned in New France (today Canada) were called Canadiens. French People from Acadie were called Acadien or Cadien. Cajun is a bad english pronounciation of Cadien which is adopted by the French.

  • I never said they did. Look up Afro Mexican. You'll learn something new from my culture french boy. Well besides kicking the French's ass.

  • I'm creole but not 100%

  • Creole People are basically French people from french colony, black, white, metis, or other. It's only in New-France (Canada and Acadie) that French called themselves Canadian and Acadian.

  • I haitian 100% i speak haitian creole and i speak french also so yeah...

  • I'm from Breaux Bridge, La. in the Lafayette area. People outside the area or outside of La. say we sound Jamaican. We're deep into our Creole heritage. Anybody ashame... Ou pa konnen. Sa sai pa bon.

    i10 by 10! lol

  • I claim creole and am creole.

I am mixed but i do not say i am mixed i say i am creole and they can either except it or move on.

I will not change what i am for the sake of pleasing a outsider.

  • @LilGrim504

Creole is a mix of three diff races.

    French, African, and Native.

I think when people start marrying more white or more black and the family turns that way it is not a race as much as a ethnicity then.

  • @Darkmessenger1000 it dont have to be just those three. am Creole( french, german, spanish, scottish, and african)

  • @boohcool

oui, that is also a mix but is is also a rare one.

I just listed the most popular and common.

  • im haitian creole but i have never heard new orlens people speak thier creole, id love to here it to find out the similarities

  • antm, not many people speak louisiana creole anymore. It's an endangered language...there are like 3,000 speakers left, give or take. It's kind of similar to haitian creole though.

  • cajuns and creole are different they r not the same

  • @yezziryessir13 yes it is..The creoles are black, and cajuns are white

  • hispanic is not a race its a cultural/ethinic group, there are black hispanics white hispanis and hispanics with east asian centrel and western asian ancestry as well as native carribbean ancestry. i'll name a few, gilbert arenas, tatiyana ali, zoe saldana, salma hayek, just a lil info

  • yep ...creole all dai.......sak pase

  • @zoeflip509 nou'p boule

  • hi, i like the video, i live in new york, i am creole part creole on my moms side. i see what you mean but i used to feel weird saying oh i am creole and in school i just say i am black. i am intereast tho does any one in your fam still speak creole.

  • Everyone has a different story to tell in life, this is one of the only ways I know how to inform people about the Louisiana Creole heritage. By the way I love zydeco musicDo you too?

  • @stratford867 yes I do..Chris Ardoin lol or however you spell it

  • Well done with your video. I see a lot of people are confused when it comes to Louisiana and Creoles. Look, it's like this...I can't help who I am. I am black with Native American(my grandmother is full-blood Choctaw), European(my paternal great-grandfather) and black ancestry. By definition, that makes me Creole..and by race that makes me black. I love every ounce of my New Orleans, Creole Cooking, Mardi Gras going culture and heritage. Now, let me go fix some gumbo, and shrimp creole :)

  • well put purpleknightmom

  • What do you think a Creole person is suppose to look like? I'm Creole and I look just like a regular sista walking the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana. It has everything to do with your heritage, not race.

  • Hmm. looks like a regular black man.

  • @rtp1968.....Creole people do not all look the same way. There are creole people who are as dark as gabrielle union (with kinky hair). There are creole people who are dark with curly hair, there are creole people who are light w/ kinky hair ad there are creole people who look like a straight white person with straight hair. Creole people do not all look one way.

  • This is so true because my grandmother and great grandmother was dark and beautiful natural curly/wavy hair and one of our surname is Francois and they were from Franklin LA. I had some Aunts who were light and dark and had the same parents. So you are absolutely right about that, and another thing, my boyfriend and his family are from New Iberia and they have a thick creole accent and they are dark.

  • @rtp1968 ummmmm..... really??????? that really is childish of you to say....

  • Good 4-U 2 express your Louisiana (La) Creole heritage. Blacks from La or have La ancestry can be considered Creole due to Louisiana's history and because the word "Creole" is so complexed. La Creole isn't just a look. It's culture (language, music, food, lifestyle, etc.). Some people think when you say you're La Creole, you're trying to be better than another group of people. Sadly, some La Creoles are stupid that way while others aren't. They're just proud of their La Creole heritage.

  • I agree. My point of this video is to express my past history with people on youtube. Just as other people say they have a mixture within their dna, i choose to express it in this way

  • @bayouchoupique I would love for more people to know.

  • New Orleans, Creole pride

  • well im from Lake Charles, La and im of creole descent. Both of my parents are creole. No i can't speak french creole but im proud of my heritage. My ancestry is Black, native american, spanish, french, german, italian. Creole is basically mixed with many flavors like pot gumbo.

  • Hispanic is NOT a race, think about it Zoe Saldana (From Movie GUESS WHO) is Black but Hispanic of Dominican roots. Also, George Lopez is Hispanic of Mexican roots, and Cameron Diaz also has Hispanic roots of Cuba (white/european-cuban) all three have Hispanic/Latin roots but one is of Black roots another of Indigenous roots and another of White roots...so just as we Creoles are, Hispanic is an Ethnic group NOT race, also more than 30,000 of our Creole ancestors come from Latin America :)

  • Thank you so much. I was just tweeting about how the Creole ethnicity is so beautiful, but so overlooked. I am proud to be Black, but when it really comes down to it, I am Creole, from Baton Rouge. And it sucks when people won't open their minds to other cultures.

  • We are Creoles of color. I learned about my extended culture/heritage about eight years ago. From central Louisiana, Be aware, Be proud, Be Creole.

  • Thats good to know that one more person in the world cares about their family history

  • wat is it called if you black and your ancestors r black, white and native american. cuz my grandad com from 2 mixed race parent 1 mixed wit black and cherokee/blackfoot indian and his mother is mixed with black and white? wat u cal dat

  • Well I would describe you, Ypsilanti14, as a Multigenerally Multiracial, much like myself.

  • Hispanic is not a race! There are white, black and native(indian) Hispanics and every kind of mixture of the three. There are even some oriental hispanics.

  • Hispanic is a race. When you start to break down the race that makes it a culture. Hispanic is a race, google it, you will see. Cuban is a culture or you can say ethnic background. But its origin is hispanic. A mexicans origian is what? Hispanic.

  • Much respect to you, but Hispanic is an Ethnicity, much like the terms African-American, Afro-Caribbean and Creole are terms to describe ethnicity, not race. The term Hispanic, which usually translates to mean Spaniard or one of spanish nationality (Hispana means Spain), is ironically used to describe people of Latin America.

  • Continued - Some are Mulattos, some Mestixos, some Zambos and others Europeans, African, Native American or a mix of the three. Some of the people of Latin America are even of Arab or East Asian origin, and call themselves and are respected as fellow Latinos.

  • But other than that, as another perosn of French descent, I appreciate you amaking this video honoring your Creole Identity! :)

  • Google? Listen bro..."hispanic origin" is exactly what you say it is, a person of spanish-speaking origin, however, what you fail to realize is the fact that African Slaves were dropped off in countries which now are Spanish-Speaking....the fact that they NOW speak spanish does not mean that all of a sudden they are a "new race", they are still black, its just a cultural/language difference, not a RACIAL difference...to say "hispanic" is a race is like saying that all hispanics are the same race

  • Yes they are. For centuries they have mixed with Spanish blood which make them Afro-Latino and that will never change

  • Afro-Latino falls under "ethnicity" not "race"...not all "afro-latinos" have Spanish blood in them, and even the ones that do have spanish blood are still considered black people...same way most afro-americans have caucasian DNA, yet they still consider themselves "black", even light-skinned ones....however, in my case...I'm nowhere near light-skinned...I'm black...even culturally...yet, because I speak spanish they act like I can't be considered black, even though I'm darker than them.

  • @jahlionpr I understand where you coming from. I mean having white in your blood really won't have affect on you being light skin. Africa everyone there arn't dark skin there are light skin people. All shades of black in Africa.

  • I love being Creole when someone asks me what race i am i say Creole. Because when i used to say im black i would get werid looks. So i just said forget it im going to say what i am and thats Creole. Im from beaumont also. But my family history goes back to Lousianna.

  • I love being Creole Cha! My mother was born in Beaumont her mother was too , her mother was born in Marksville Louisiana. My fatheres side is Creole too .

  • whats your last name

  • Esprit

  • I see your from beaumont. Send me a message with some of you info. I am from beaumont to

  • We are a people,place,culture and Language!

There are French Creoles all over the world and we are just one of many.

Be proud and never let who and what you are to make others comfortable.

    Viva La Creole!
