  • This has to be Fall 1991 vs Fall 1992, right??? I wish I had been part of this kick ass show, my brother was but I started MVHS Fall 1992 and we had "Pirates" as our theme. We were still rockin but Les Mis was the very best of all my years, my brother and sister's years combined!!

  • @TheMckcrew ....this would be Fall of '91....MY sophmore year....I also marched "Pirates" and of course..."Legends"....that was my last one...and I had a fair amount of solos for that one....but I have to say, I still think this was one of THE best shows Mtn. View has EVER put on...but that's just my opinion....

  • Nice!!! I really hope to see the Sweeney Todd show do as well as this! (This is Dragonslayer from drumline, btw)

  • @Crazd22

    AHAHAHAH D-SLAYYERRRRRRRRRR

  • Mountain view is awesome but they sent me to alta

  • is this les meseralbes?

  • @gregmcbacon13...why yes, this is Les Miserables...this was our "sweep everything" show from 1992

  • my band's doing Les Miserables this year.

  • hats off to you...

  • hey i heard you want to know more information about the current MVHS marching band.. I'm a sophomore in MV and i can answer any questions you have :)

oh and i would like to say one thing..

    WE STILL KICK ASS!!

  • @MVdrummmer ....hey...sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you...my cpu was broken : ( but, I'm wondering what your show is this year....and what competitons you're going to this year....I know that's changed soooo much since my days back in 90-94....(I'm a trumpet player, by the way...still...)...and of course...MTN VIEW WILL ALWAYS KICK ASS!!!....WOOOOOO-HOOOOO!!!!!! =p

  • @iknowwitchfu its out of exile

    im a freshman

    hahaha

  • @iknowwitchfu hi im a senior this year at MVHS

our show this year is called out of exile by demitri shostakovich

if you look up MVHS Marching Band 2010 you can see this years field show if you want....

  • @bElgiUmGirLy ...thanks!!...I will DEFINITELY have to check that out!!!!!!

  • hey who ever own this video my syster in this video she a flag girl i was in the 1998 band i was a drummer it was sooo much fun never made to the rose parade lol my syster did luckly gal lol this is an asome video

  • that's funny!...YOU must have marched with MY brother then!!...he was there for the '98 season....how funny is that??...I began marching the year after the Rose Bowl..."Fantasia" was my first show...and, your sister may remember my brother since I brought him to practice almost all the time, and he would run off with the colorguard to learn how to twirl...he later became a Drum Major for Mtn. View....geez..what a small world : )

  • Loved the video! Excellent performance ..

Hate to tell you though -- Mtn View didn't invent the flash cube trick .... we were using it in Massachusetts as early as 1987!! Totally fantastic effect when the whole band hit them at the same time!!

  • in '87 huh???...well, we weren't too far behind..'91-92....but, that's pretty freakin' cool!!!...how did you rig them up??....we used paper clips for the cubes and fishing wire to hang them around our necks....this way no one saw the cubes at all and were NOT expecting it.....it was pretty cool to have the crowd go completely nuts over it, and have the other bands just hate us for it....yes, that was a good year....

  • Ah, can you please upload more videos from the MVMB?

By the way, the Mountain View Band took 3rd place at Folsom yesterday. Granite Bay and Foothill took 1st and 2nd respectively.

I wish we could've done a show like this, so many cool visuals (lightbulb) and the percussion feature was sick. Not to mention the DM was badass.

  • haha im from homestead marching band. (: you guys look pretty legit. ;D

  • HAHA...pretty legit???....this was back in the day when we used to stick it to you guys at EVERY competition....believe, me...we were legit back then ; )

  • Man we kicked ass!!!! Hey it would be sweet if you could get Fantasia. That was and awesome year as well!!! Thank you for the post and I look forward to the others

  • Fantasia WAS awesome, wasn't it!!!...I loved that show, too!!!....so, believe, me, I'm working on it!! My younger brother is coming down to visit me today (being Wed the 23rd of Sept) and I'm hoping that he'll be bringing down the other shows!!...that's assuming he's got a better memory than I do, and he remembers to bring them!!!.....as soon as he does, they will be posted right away!!!

  • This is intense. :)

I'm in MB this year as a Freshman. Ahhhh intimidating. But fun.

And I like your avatar. Ditto. XD

  • aaaahhh, a newbie!!!....enjoy it to the fullest!!!...it's a lot of work, but worth EVERY minute of waking up early and practicing late...do you go to Mtn. View???...or are you at another school??..don't worry, I don't judge...much ; ) .....and, about the avatar..and "ditto"...should I be assuming that you're raising your hand as well??...at least you're in school now, in 2009, when it's a lot easier...when I was in school, no one could know...MB was the only place I fit in.....

  • MB and all the music classes I took kept me going...kept me alive, literally...think about it....all these different personalities...people you wouldn't think would EVER get along...are all out there on the field...working as one...it's the one place where someone who doesn't fit in anywhere has a place...they're JUST as important as everyone else...it's beautiful...and, if you get picked on by someone who's NOT in band....they're in trouble, 'cause you have some 200 people who have your back...

  • flashbulbs!!!

  • oh, yeah!!!....we blew everyone away with that freakin' awesome idea....scatter drill and flashbulbs...talk about showmanship!!!....

  • haha I remember the flash bulbs, and nearly melting my fingers off trying to thread the fishing line in them......

  • Your gonna have to dig that one out and post it. I cant wait.

  • oh TOTALLY!!!...and remember we had to be careful to make sure those damn paper clips stayed in too...worrying about a flash cube going off too early and giving away the "secret".....they were SUCH a pain...but so damn cool at the same time, really.....I do gotta say...(Jason) Henshaw was a genius for figuring out the flash cubes...

  • these was the golden days of the MVHS marching band. i didn't even march until '96 but i used to watch all these shows!! PLEASE POST MORE.<3

  • I'm working on getting Fantasia, Pirates (oooh, my personal favorite show I marched...yes, I'm throwing in some sarcasm)...and Legends....then I'm going to work on getting others as well...you began in '96, huh??...you must have marched with my younger brother for a couple of years...how cool!!!...I was at all the competitions he was at!!!..I'll drop you a line when I upload more marching vids!!!

  • This is an incredible show. This is going to be my fourth (final) year marching in the Spartan Marching Band and if we could put on a performance like this I would be blown away. I'm honored to be a part of the legacy of this band.

  • Hey there!! Thanks for the wonderful compliment!!..and, i'm sure you're gonna blow them away this year!!..I wish you all the luck in the world on your show this next year, and know that ALL the alumni of the Spartan Marching Band (whether they want to admit it or not) will be with you guys in spirit at every competition as you step on that marching field this year cheering you on!!!!...by the way, what's the theme this year???

  • Pictures At An Exhibition. This is going to be our first year since way back when that we won't be going to Lodi...

  • Pictures is a great work of music!!!...we played that in Wind Ensemble back in the days I was at Mtn. View....it'll make a good field show, deinitely!!!....but...NO LODI????....WHAT???....where are you going instead of Lodi???...my Junior year we took a really really crappy show, "Pirates" to Merced...everyone there was like "Who the hell is Mtn. View??".....then we swept everything there!!!..even with that dumb show...HA-HA-HA!!!...THAT'S who Mtn. View is!!!....so, new isn't necessarily bad...

  • Nobody really goes to Lodi anymore - I'm not sure if they're even going to have the competition. We haven't actually had any competition there since 2004. We'll be going to Gilroy and Folsom this year.

  • What a shame!! Lodi used to be SOOO much fun!!..My family actually would make an entire weekend out of it....get a hotel for the night....stay over....WOW...how times have changed....so, you're just doing the two competitions then??....sorry to be asking all the questions, but I can't seem to find anyone that knows the answers anymore!!....and, I'm always curious about what the band is up to, how it's doing.....both my younger brother and I were a part of it...me in 91-94, and my bro was 98-01..

  • so...we both followed the band for a long, long time!!!....I went on to become a music teacher myself....anywyay, thanks for answering all my questions!!! I really appreciate it!!!...and best of luck with the field show this year!!!!..hopefully someone will upload it and I'll get the chance to see it!!!...always LOVE to see a Mtn. View field show!!!

  • Not a problem. We're actually doing 4 competitions this year - Cupertino TOB, Foothill Band Review, Gilroy, and Folsom.

  • It's good to hear that you still go to Cupertino and Foothill!!!....is Foothill still considered a difficult competition??....I always enjoyed Foothill a lot...there was always some stiff competiton at that one...Lodi was great...but Foothill was a REAL challenge...who are your main rivals right now??...back in my day it was Homestead...nasty little buggers.....

  • Yeah, Foothill's difficult but they've got the nicest field that we get to march on. We'd like to consider Homestead our rivals, though their financial situation seems to be better than ours and thus their band is able to afford more staff, instruments, and competitions.

  • wooh Pictures at an exhibition!

  • Whereas this is a good performance, there's no energy. Very...blah. And the drum major was too messy with his pattern. I mean no harm, but as a band director, I must tell the truth.

  • oh, you have GOT to be kidding me!!!...we swept EVERYTHING at EVERY show with this....and, energy..PLENTY OF IT...you haven't been a band director long enough, hon...I'm 33 and been in the game for YEARS....have been in college marching bands and seen PLENTY of DCI competitions...Bryan Kreft, the drum Major, happened to be the #1 in the State at that time, not to mention Drum Major of SC Vanguard so to say he wasn't that good...well, kinda shows your age....

  • but, to be honest, it IS difficult to see the energy with the camera fixed on one part of the field only and not on all of it or a bigger picture...but, in the '90's, Mtn. View was THE band to beat....

  • I also mean no harm..but, I was wondering...how did you become a band director at 20?? Are you a teacher??...'cause I had to get an education AND music degree in college to teach and I was just wondering how you became a director at 20..??...just curious.....

  • I finished early. I also received a BA in music and education and a masters in music.

  • ok...while I'm trying to grasp the concept of you getting throug all 4 years of high school, and then 5 years worth of college all by the time you were 20....I still think you are very new at this...and, I'm really not trying to be rude...but, at every competition...brass and woodwind, 1st place, percussion, 1st place, Drum Major, 1st place, colorguard, 1st place, showmanship, sweeps, marching, sweeps, music, sweeps, field show, sweeps, overall competition, sweeps...and....

  • we weren't going to easy competitons...and these were also the days when the marching, percussion, and drum major judges were still allowed on the field with their little recorders to make comments and judge up close....and, also...please bare in mind..we had just finished learning this show 4 days before this performance...this particular post is our first show...well, our first Les Mis show....we'd only known it all for 4 days here....

  • so, I think we did a pretty kick ass job for only knowing the entire show for only 4 days....and, apparently..the judges...who have been in the game for I'd say a good 15, 20 years...well, they thought so too....

  • sorry this is sooo long....and, I really don't want to sound mean or hurtful....but, I've been teaching music for 10 years now...and, I learned that just because you have the degrees doesn't necessarily make you an expert right off the bat...you also need to have experiences....I still learn things all the time...I'll post the last show we did of this and let you know...maybe you see a difference..and, I'm not trying to be a mega-bitch...I'd actually love to talk to you more!!..peacefully!! : )
