First thing, I've hunted this area for 15 years. I have seen a steady increase in wolf activity, and a steady decrease in other game activity. I care for that man, those dogs were like his family. Mostly what this is for is to warn people to try and keep safe, they probably put up warning after the attack to people within that area. If there were attacks going on in my area I would wan't this to be broadcast so I can know what's going on and keep safe. @hatsudai69 Bears are not endangered. Check the ESA report if you don't believe me, they are classified as "Least Concern." Hunting hounds, 90% of the time, are anything but abused. I have a buddy that raises hunting hounds and they are the happiest dogs I've seen because dogs love to do whatever it is they're trained to do. @Amidat Yes, there were wolves in Idaho, but you have to look below the surface to understand what I am talking about. The native wolf, Canis Lupus Irremotus, is extinct. They were significantly smaller than the introduced subspecies (Canis Lupus Occidentalis), and had very different behavioral traits than the introduced wolf, one being the fact that they were not pack forming. I don't know how they behaved towards other canines, regardless, the wolf that is there now does not belong there.

Geographic gene diversity based on the species location relative to the poles yields deviations in physical characteristics and behavioral patterns, most specifically in predators. Look at the grizzly bears of the Rockies in comparison to the Kodiak Brown Bear. Different coats, different size, different diets, different behavior.

Grizzlies - Brown - Polar - even Panda's are all diverse in their behavior... but there are certain things that make them bears. One of the things about wolves is that they are pack animals... like lions move in pride's in different parts of Africa. You'll find that in predators, including black bears, brown bears, and wolves that the further north they are the bigger in body mass and much different in behavior. The brown bears of Alaska are the same species as the grizzlies of Yellowstone, yet they are much larger and behavioral patterns are different. Same with wolves. What other childish insults have you?

We have the same problem in norway, wolfes killing our dogs. To get tougher dogs is of no use, against a wolf the stand no chanse, its over in secunds. There is no fight ,only dead dogs. The dogs have to outnumber the wolfs in huge numbers for it to be anything but a slaugther... Put a pitbull in a fight with a wolf and i give you 5 sec before you have to pick up youre dead pitbull...

Let me tell you about norway and helikopters, we killed one pack outside the wolfezone with helikopters because this was the best way to get the right wolfs in a short period of time. Depending on ones flock and area, 4-5 dogs can cover alot of ground, sometimes- need a few more.
Smart ranchers equip dogs equip dogs with spike collars. If wolf packs are very large, u get more dogs.
Caucasian Ovcharka or Kangal can handle a wolf 1 vs 1.
GSD Packs protect each other fighting, wolves wont mess with them.

@hatsudai69 Bears are not endangered. Check the ESA report if you don't believe me, they are classified as "Least Concern." Hunting hounds, 90% of the time, are anything but abused. I have a buddy that raises hunting hounds and they are the happiest dogs I've seen because dogs love to do whatever it is they're trained to do. It's the fucking government's fault his dogs are dead for bringing a non-native wolf into Idaho in the first place. Learn your facts before you talk you fucking idiot.

@NickLikesToSweepPick - umm wolves were in Idaho LONG BEFORE Europeans migrated here.... the natives lived around wolves all the time!! I do agree that most ppl love their hunting hounds very much... but don't blame this on wolves.

@Amidat Yes, there were wolves in Idaho, but you have to look below the surface to understand what I am talking about. The native wolf, Canis Lupus Irremotus, is extinct. They were significantly smaller than the introduced subspecies (Canis Lupus Occidentalis), and had very different behavioral traits than the introduced wolf, one being the fact that they were not pack forming. I don't know how they behaved towards other canines, regardless, the wolf that is there now does not belong there.

I'm sure the re-introduced ones were around before as well... just like mountain lions were even on the east coast up until maybe 200 years ago.

Yes, human encroachment is what ultimately led to the native wolf's extinction, which is a tragedy. Regardless, you cannot replace one species with another and have a healthy ecosystem, it is just as bad as wiping out a species. Please, don't say anything more unless it is intelligent.

BUT..I don't see how it could possibly be recorded that there were ever a wolf species that did not work in packs. As far as the other things you said - it is true - but the slope has already been descended upon. Man is going to always having to "fix" something because we have been messing things up for a LONG time.

@Amidat There were people in the Rockies before the native wolf went extinct, you know, you'd think somebody had recorded something. Well somebody did. Read the Goldman 1937 report, everything I am talking about is in there. On a further note, no, man does NOT always have to fix everything environmental problem because it usually just gets worse. Before 1995, despite the lack of this apex predator, ungulate levels were healthy as was the ecosystem. Look at it now. MUCH worse.

I'm sure the ecosystem is not as good as it was 300 years ago. Having an apex predator will take time to re-integrate. If you want to talk about strictly "native" animals then many of the animals in Idaho shouldn't be there. Many of these animals were brought by the Europeans... so?

@Amidat Do some research on the Red Wolf of the southwest, as well as eyewitness accounts of wolves in the midwest in the late 18th century. Not always the case. Geographic gene diversity based on the species location relative to the poles yields deviations in physical characteristics and behavioral patterns, most specifically in predators. Look at the grizzly bears of the Rockies in comparison to the Kodiak Brown Bear. Different coats, different size, different diets, different behavior.

Grizzlies - Brown - Polar - even Panda's are all diverse in their behavior... but there are certain things that make them bears. One of the things about wolves is that they are pack animals... like lions move in pride's in different parts of Africa. And again - most of those domesticated animals are not native to the America's... so that is "wrong" too then.

You'll find that in predators, including black bears, brown bears, and wolves that the further north they are the bigger in body mass and much different in behavior. The brown bears of Alaska are the same species as the grizzlies of Yellowstone, yet they are much larger and behavioral patterns are different. Same with wolves. What other childish insults have you?

Omg this was in idaho i live in idaho!!!... wolves kill alot of dogs in idaho they almost have no fear of humans... Stupid ass hole people that are obsesed with wolves(I love wolves btw but i dont feed them) keep feeding them making them lose their fear of humans. Hunters make a good living in Idaho they use just about every part of the animal and sell the skin, skulls, teeth, claws, ect. We have the same problem in norway, wolfes killing our dogs. To get tougher dogs is of no use, against a wolf the stand no chanse, its over in secunds. There is no fight ,only dead dogs. The dogs have to outnumber the wolfs in huge numbers for it to be anything but a slaugther... Put a pitbull in a fight with a wolf and i give you 5 sec before you have to pick up youre dead pitbull...

Let me tell you about norway and helikopters, we killed one pack outside the wolfezone with helikopters because this was the best way to get the right wolfs in a short period of time. The rest of helicopter use on wolfs in norway are used of so caled wolf friends to dart and mark wolfs. Animal cruelty im sure.
