Ok, fair enough. I climb with the VT, I love it. I have found that if you use smaller rated prusik cord for the eye to eye, you almost get no binding> It functions then like a mechanical ascender without the weight.
I notice the Fly climbing line, and is that HRC for the VT? I have both and like them. The Fly is alittle narrow though and i can only use it with gloves. The VT is my friction knot of choice
The xt is a nice hitch! Still, hard to beat the fluid action of a 3-2 vt !!! Lots of factors like cord length, etc. Plus you might not want that much slip! (performance)
Its a super friction knot, nice for worry free climbing, it grabs when you put weight on it and almost instantly releases when you take weight off(like when you want to advance your hitch)
Valdotain needs some more wraps at the bottom to be really effective, and safe.......

i thought knots and hitches were at least marginally different.

are you really concerned with the technical jargon? Its good to know the difference, but really!

Yeah, it is a bit thin without gloves but the latex dipped gloves are cheap and add so much extra grip. Why would you climb without them?

like that knot, i klimb on a xt witch is a vt vith a extra twist;)

I always found the xt to bite more. I like the freedom. Though I think a 3-3 combo is a little better. Maybe try a Knut.

what is that knot for? does it work like a prussik?
rawkid77 5 years ago
Yes, it is commonly called a french prussik or valdotain tress (vt). It is like a traditional prussik but doesn't lock up like a prussik.
