It's impressive that you can do that, but unless you're able to incorporate your other fingers of your right hand in while you do that, it's just sort of unnecessary. It would be a lot easier just to walk that with your index and middle fingers, or use the "up and down thumb" technique.

I have the same 5 string version of this bass.. It's an Ibanez SR 506 that he's using.. They have thinner necks in most of their models for fast playing.

if u use your wrist and arm a little more istead of isolating all the motion in your thumb joint u can probably play 3/2s the speed shown right off the bat. I can do it on a clay pot but of course I can't play those great melodies!

You remind me of Chuck Rainey doing that! Is your thumbnail very long? I couldn't tell. I also play lots of classical/flamenco guitar and since I need nails, I have to find a happy medium when I play the bass. Since I hardly ever straight up pluck like you, I can let my thumbnail stay pretty long and it doesn't get in the way when I do my palm-muting ala Anthony Jackson. Bravo bro and keep it up!
