i love ubuntu its 4x faster than the defult version of vista on my laptop. even windows 7 fails in comparison to linux. its so much faster the only problem with linux is compatiblity issues. for me maybe not others but my sound doesnt work though the speakers and i cant get the right graphics card drivers for the advanced desktop effects.

@machiinate witch microsoft operating system has all your hardware drivers pre-installed ... make fresh install of any windows, after first booting you have to find and install drivers for any hardware you have. The only way they are preinstalled is when your computer is new and drivers has been preinstalled by your computer manufacture and not windows so if you want your drivers ready on linux go and buy an computer with a linux distribution and you'll have everything installed and ready.

2) Web Cam (so far this works)

3) Detect all hardware (this one picked up my 7800 nvidia)

4) Virtual Box (still having problems)

5) Play all media (ie wmv) problem here is I get ether video or sound but rarely both working at the same time))

The above list is Linux wide, it does pertain to just Ubuntu. My point is the first distro that does all this out of the box will win.

Lastly YOUTUBE has been great for people who need to see how something is done.

Don't get me wrong, I have it installed and find myself using it more then the other distros. I've tried at least a dozen of them to date and this one seems to be the easiest. My rating is easy; I just want things to work with minimal command line/kernel recompiling and configuration.

You know that's real pretty and stuff, but most have no freggin idea how to set all that eye candy up. The miss conception is people think this is what they get from a vanilla install which is not the case.

Almost every Linux distort can look like this, the one that will win with the most users is the one that puts together simple step by step instructions that are written for someone who knows absolutely nothing about linux. Until then, Linux OS will never go mainstream.

Sabayon does. Sabayon even has compiz fusion in the LIVE CD! I used a 64 bit live cd mini edition and it had compiz, the full compiz, working full force.

Ultimate Edition 1.8 has better if you want to look at it that way, I will not break copywrite laws and inject Nvidia / ATI drivers but has "git" built compiz fusion with cube deformation.

To be honest I have only been making them for about a year, probably a ubuntu user for 6 months prior to that, but have ran many *nix distros before. It did take some time to learn the file structure and where settings etc. are stored from the live disk.

ubuntu is like XP except instead of killing urself over the errors... u find the solution immediately on the forums... I am a beginner and just about every single problem i have ever had with my ubuntu the solutions were easily found online. Like its probably extremely hard to run into a problem which hasnt been discussed on the forums.

Just use the standard Ubuntu 7.10, it's great. You can install games with the package management system (Synaptic). There are no "Ultimate Editions" of Ubuntu or Open Source software because it's all Open Source. Every Linux Distro is a "Ultimate Edition" because you can use every program you want. Still Ubuntu is the user-friendliest distro available.

it is built into the operating system it is called compiz fusion, you do have to install your restricted drivers before it will work. There is a tool that is included that will do this for you called Envy if you run NVidia or ATI graphics card.

The command to get it going is compiz --replace

I doubt that, I have 2 NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GT's (SLI), the reason it is choppy, happened when I converted the video from oog / vorbis to avi for youtube, I believe it dropped frames.
