ArmA2 with ACE2 requires about 15 additional keyboard shortcuts to play (apart from WASD and the usual stand/crouch/fire/zoom stuff) and that's not even including the more obscure things like 'salute', 'surrender' and stuff like that. Unless the next getn consoles get a 64 button controller, that kind of complexity just won't be possible on a console...

@DefendinMyBase Not only you can play online against other people, but also there is no limit of the people. In theory, if you have a strong enough server, you can have hundred people on the server (I used to see servers for 250 people).
Also, since Arma uses island-mission concept, you already have the "map". When you connect to some server, you download the mission file (which is usually a .pbo file which contains text information about mission; scripts, pictures, sounds etc (if needed)).
@DefendinMyBase Therefore, the only thing that mission file does is placing the units and optimizing the game conditions. If the mission maker didn't restrained the area of game with, say, a script that kills ye when you run away, you can travel through the whole "island" (a term for the "maps").

Not even at minimum, why don't you look up the minimum requirements on the game's homepage? You need a better GPU, 9500 is miserable. At least a 8800 series card or ATI 4800 series for enjoyable gameplay.

One thing thats really turning me off on ArmA is that 80% of the houses cannot be entered, and if they can AI is rather helpless in there. Thats points for OFP2 where you can enter almost anything the interface is convenient and easy to handle and you wont have trouble with AI getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.
thats a nice large city! what is a downer though, is alot of videos for obvious reasons(graphic issues) dont have alot of civilians moving about the towns. it makes all the citys seems so sterile and lifeless. I hope someone invents better technology so these graphics are such system hogs so we can finally be able to have lots of things populating the gameworld without it making a computer sluggish
@nuttex No one is laughing. Everyone knows ArmA II has incredible AI. The whole franchise is build around being able to control a squad, and adding the element of players, and AI in one environment to create a truly evil experience. Straight pvp is boring, sometimes AI need to fill in the grunt ranks, because with all players, it looses the order of war. Plus, it's fun to actually kill a lot of enemy soldiers, but still be in a persistent world with combating, and cooperating with real players.

Well, I don't know... Dragon Rising has slower gameplay and a small bug with AI seeing through grass but it has beautiful graphics compared to Arma 2. Don't get me wrong, this looks great but I think Operation Flashpoint is a better simulator. If you have reached a certain age then you simply won't move for minutes because that bloody sniper spotted you...
@ppeter92 I think you don't get it. When you call Dragon Rising a "Operation Flashpoint", it's wrong. The first one (OFP: Cold War Crisis + Resistance) is a real one. But Codemasters and Bohemia Interactive had some problems, so Bohemia started new series called ArmA: Armed Assault with upgraded engine of Operation Flashpoint (aka Virtual Reality 2.0). Right know we have ArmA 2 (Virtual Reality 3.0) and Operation Arrowhead (not sure, but supposed to be VR 3.5).
@ppeter92 The point is Dragon Rising is not a simulator, just a realistic game AT consoles + PC. I just can't call game a simulator, if you have your weapon stuck to the centre of your screen. Also, I can't call it simulator because of vehicles (yeah, cars and tanks are not so bad, cars are better than in OFP and ArmA, but still). I can't call it simulator if you have a slot limit in multiplayer. No dedicated servers. Let alone the lack of ability to download mission from host/server to client.
What models are these for the actual soldiers? I thought they were the american army 09 ones but I downloaded them and they weren't. Are they the generic special forces or models that come with ACE2?
@nuttex I can't believe no one asked this.. maybe i missed it, but what's your graphics card and cpu if you can run this on highest settings with no lag? also, do you know off-hand how many frames your system is set to pre render on this game? I just realized mine was trying to pre render 1000 frames, I think that's why I can't play on full settings with a radeon 5770 graphics card and a 2.9Ghz Athlon X2 6000+ cpu

Ive been following since opflash 1, with y2k3 mod became an immortal game, arma 1 and now 2, only these games make me have the feeling of being there, others are just arcadeish clashes of skill, these games test wisdom over skills, team effort and pursuing the feeling of reality in you, for that no comparison is possible to any other games

One thing thats really turning me off on ArmA is that 80% of the houses cannot be entered, and if they can AI is rather helpless in there. Thats points for OFP2 where you can enter almost anything the interface is convenient and easy to handle and you wont have trouble with AI getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.

thats a nice large city! what is a downer though, is alot of videos for obvious reasons(graphic issues) dont have alot of civilians moving about the towns. it makes all the citys seems so sterile and lifeless. I hope someone invents better technology so these graphics are such system hogs so we can finally be able to have lots of things populating the gameworld without it making a computer sluggish

@nuttex No one is laughing. Everyone knows ArmA II has incredible AI. The whole franchise is build around being able to control a squad, and adding the element of players, and AI in one environment to create a truly evil experience. Straight pvp is boring, sometimes AI need to fill in the grunt ranks, because with all players, it looses the order of war. Plus, it's fun to actually kill a lot of enemy soldiers, but still be in a persistent world with combating, and cooperating with real players.

@pockyrulz Well, I don't have any experience with stuff from AMD, but most of my friends has weaker computers, and it still works.
I think the problem is videocard. Try to get something like GeForce 260 (or 280, if you have enough money).

And to think every shot that is fired by AI, is aimed at something... somewhere, serving a purpose, to kill their enemy. All the gunfire is so intense if you just think about it, every bullet being simulated... god i love this game, and I'm 14...

Well, I don't know... Dragon Rising has slower gameplay and a small bug with AI seeing through grass but it has beautiful graphics compared to Arma 2. Don't get me wrong, this looks great but I think Operation Flashpoint is a better simulator. If you have reached a certain age then you simply won't move for minutes because that bloody sniper spotted you...

@ppeter92 I think you don't get it. When you call Dragon Rising a "Operation Flashpoint", it's wrong. The first one (OFP: Cold War Crisis + Resistance) is a real one. But Codemasters and Bohemia Interactive had some problems, so Bohemia started new series called ArmA: Armed Assault with upgraded engine of Operation Flashpoint (aka Virtual Reality 2.0). Right know we have ArmA 2 (Virtual Reality 3.0) and Operation Arrowhead (not sure, but supposed to be VR 3.5).

@ppeter92 The point is Dragon Rising is not a simulator, just a realistic game AT consoles + PC. I just can't call game a simulator, if you have your weapon stuck to the centre of your screen. Also, I can't call it simulator because of vehicles (yeah, cars and tanks are not so bad, cars are better than in OFP and ArmA, but still). I can't call it simulator if you have a slot limit in multiplayer. No dedicated servers. Let alone the lack of ability to download mission from host/server to client.

@nuttex I can't believe no one asked this.. maybe i missed it, but what's your graphics card and cpu if you can run this on highest settings with no lag? also, do you know off-hand how many frames your system is set to pre render on this game? I just realized mine was trying to pre render 1000 frames, I think that's why I can't play on full settings with a radeon 5770 graphics card and a 2.9Ghz Athlon X2 6000+ cpu

no wonder they use it as simulators at many armed units. Ive been following since opflash 1, with y2k3 mod became an immortal game, arma 1 and now 2, only these games make me have the feeling of being there, others are just arcadeish clashes of skill, these games test wisdom over skills, team effort and pursuing the feeling of reality in you, for that no comparison is possible to any other games
