I grew up in Melbourne and this song just never seemed to drift too far away from the playlists during the Sixties. The girls singing "Yeah-yeah-yeah" stuck in my head as a boy.
Just a few years ago I found a 4 CD boxed set of Mel Torme on amazon. It was the only way I could get hold of Cast Your Fate, but it's got a few other great tracks too. Coming Home Baby and Haven't We Met are favourites.
This song did it for me when I was 14 in Melbourne Oz.......gr8 arrangement...sort of Becker/Fagan jazz/pop feel....by chance I saw Mel 11 years later live at the Wrest Point Casino in Hobart Oz...and realised I was seeing musical royalty......he literally blew everyone out of room that night.....everyone...he finished the night with Route 66 big band arrangment.........he only brought his drummer Butch Miles from the US, and rehearsed 12 East Coast Oz horn players for 2 weeks before the gig
Same here (loved it for decades) and never been able to find a copy, it was only ever popular in Australia, and apparently Mel was disenchanted with some of his pop work of the 60's. (don't know why he'd be unhappy with this though)
I have loved this song for decades, but sadly have never been able to find an original clip?. The backing vocals and the backing echo capture the era so perfectly .. and the girls voices sound so young. Would love to have been in the studio to see this recorded. Sadly, now only heard (rarely) on the easy listening stations.
@RayBushfox I stumbled upon this song recently , it bought back great memories for me , of the beach , as well . It's always nice when someone else remembers and likes the same tune , thanks for the comment Ray.
How many people know "Judge Harry Stone" Let's see how many people know what I'm talking about. TIP, I've just finished watching him. And Mel. Gary

Mel Torme was known as 'The Velvet Fog'
I remember this, it reminds me of sitting on the beach at Frankston and watching the yachts sailing around
Thanks.
