I want to do hotels because the cons are usually in driving distance from here but while I was in japan I spent time with the other classes and made some new friends while in the hotels that helped me out of my hell with my horrible roommate. Me and friends are going to room at cons mid 2011 so that will be a blast .Don't go alone again , Its just asking for a blow to your self esteem , surprisingly when your around a bunch of nerds who make you feel accepted and normal.
Man , you make me so sad . I know how you feel when you are alone in a big place and you tack yourself onto another group .Those people sre not usually a burden , just avoid being too quiet as well as avoid being the absolute focus of the party . Going to a con solo must be sad , I left my friends for about an hour at a con once and god it felt so boring , I'm surrounded by amazing but I feel as if im alone and empty .

you seem so..disenchanted by the whole anime reviewer/editorialist/internet personality thing. maybe it just the con thing. take a step back and realize your stuff (I.E posts and reviews and editorials) are great.
It seems like you hit up quite a few of the cons in TX and I think the scene might be getting a little old for you. Have you considered branching out a little to some of the neighboring states? I know the Arkansas Anime Festival is gaining some good momentum and Oklahoma has Izumicon. The distance/travel factor can definitely work against you, but it might be worth it if you can just to mix it up a little with some new folks.

Let's hope you have a much better time next convention, and remember, you don't have to sleep in a car! It's dangerous to do when you're alone, and if you mention it to someone, there will definitely be someone who's willing to get you a room or something.
Back when I was still planing to go to AWA those were all the things I planned on doing: going alone, sleeping in a car (being nuisance :P). Good thing I didn't go at all, I guess. Hopefully you'll have a better time at the next con you go to. Also, try not to be so hard on yourself. People do like you, Kaylyn.
PS- Please, Don't sleep in your car.! I'm fairly certain you weren't as inconvient as you think you were and if you had mentioned that you were going to sleep in your car someone would have made arrangements for you. It's dangerous!
Forgive my two cents worth, but it's never a good idea to sleep in your car, at least not without someone knowing your there.
I completely understand, I go to Fan Expo every year by myself if I can afford it. However, I really dont have a big issue with being at a con that big alone but what AnimeFEST sounds like is closer to Anime North, and I would never want to go to AN alone.

Wow. Well at least now I know not to go to cons alone, then again I haven't been to a con in 11 years (AnimeCen 1999). I haven't been into anime as much since those days. In fact the newest anime that I have is probably Chobits.
First ever convention i went was the Big Apple Anime fest i think back in 2000 in NYC.... don't remember and i was actually alone on it and was my first convention, i gotta admit it was kind of a new experience for me and really enjoyed like 2 or 3 panels i attended and the vendors room was kind of fascinating, i'm just saying. SGC was another experience back in 2009 but thats a whole different story... but i get your point...

Yeah going to cons alone sucks. One year I went to Connichi (con in Kassel germany) with a friend and it was one of the most fun times in my entire life. The next year none of my friends had time with school and work and stuff and it was probably one of the worst times I had in my life. Because I knew how fun it could be and how fun it was not.
Btw. what is dangerous about sleeping in your car? Maybe I don't get it living in germany...
I mean I live in the worst part of town and the worst thing that ever happened to me is that the police thought I was my drug dealing neighbour and wanted to come into my flat. Took me a good while to cnvince them I was not him. The neighbour however was a pretty nice guy actually. I also have a lot of freinds that live here and thy haven't had any problems.

I've gone to a lot of Cons alone and had fun, although I tend to gather people wherever I go. Room parties are a good place to crash as long as you don't mind waking up being spooned by some random guy. lol I usually volunteer to work at the cons I go to which usually gives you crash space. It c an also get you some good perks. I always liked to work security in the dealers room and artists row. A lot of people need help setting up and will offer you discounts and free art for helping. Also....
.... room parties are a good place to get free eats. Mostly they have free alcohol but if you look around you can find some really good eats. If I ever saw ya at a con I'm at I would gladly "put up with you" anytime. You seem really sweet. I can show you all sorts of tips at surviving cons. :D
Last convention I went to was U-conn @ Uconn, and may have overstay my welcome with Doug and Rob Walker. They were really nice about it though. I really had a good time hanging with them. I hope they didn't mind too much. I also went alone. I won't be doing that again.
I remember going to this year's san japan alone, the sunday event kinda fit your description of going to conventions alone :/ ...... I went alone saturday, but at least I hanged out with my friends and actually had fun....sunday was another story though :P

I just came back from Animefest today. It was fun. I met Professional Jared, and the cosplayers were really nice. Hopefully Akon wont be bad this time around, and you know SGC will be teh awesomenes. Yeah I was going to go to the con by myself, but my sister went with me at the last minute.I got like 8 pics taken of me, which was nice. Last year they had a lot of video games in their room/panel. Slept in your car? Be careful, my friend got his stereo system stolen at akon this year.
