Since the breed was started the ears have been cropped. It was done so that they could hear better. They were bred as a military dog and guard dog. The ears also give the dog it's specific look. I have had dobermans my entire life and we have always cropped the ears. It is the owner's choice. I personally think that they look like hounds if not cropped.

My concern was for the puppy. It was playing but the cat was stressed. I had my puppy for one week before it almost lost it's eye to our cat. It peaked into the box he was sleeping in and spooked my cat who took a swing but punctured it's eye. Scary couple of days waiting to see if we were going to be able to save the eye and then a few more days wondering if she was gonna see. Thankfully she is fine, a very tiny catarac and a slightly smaller eye b/c of lost fluid. But sight it good.
i think the big problem isnt that he had his ears done. its that you would allow them to continue this and not break it up. he could seriously hurt that cat if he wanted to and shes obviously stressed out and upset about it.

They were done correct. If you knew anything about it. This is how its done. They were probably 2 days fresh in this video. Sutures were still intact. When incisions heal, stitches are removed, then you tape until they hold form. Takes around 4-12 months for the ears to hold form.

@larsonator69 you realise that 2 day old stitches tend to be itchy even on people. i have 2 dobermans-without docked ears and 2 cats who play with eachother and our dobeys always shake their heads because when a cat scratches their noses it hurts and they dont have the same mechanism as us to put something on it they just shake it off and keep playing....also in some countries docking of the tails and ears is illegal and in others it isn't so be better informed before you pass judgement.

If that cat's declawed, that's horrible. I clip my cat's nails every couple of weeks when they grow back, even though it takes some time. It's totally worth it as opposed to some unnecessary surgery. If someone can't clip his or her cat's nails, you can take them to the vet to have their nails clipped free of charge.
It is very confusing to me that you made your animals go through surgery for the sake of your vanity. Declawing and ear cropping are inhumane, risky, painful, and wholly unnecessary practices.

There´s so many things wrong with this video...De-clawed cat trying to defence itself against poor dog with cropped ears. Thank god where I live de-clawing, docking (is that what it´s called when they cut dogs tail,not sure..), ear cropping and other stupid, unnecessary operations are not allowed. And really, just tell the dog to back off, so the poor cat doesn´t have to be afraid in it´s own home.

You all do realize that a cat that is only declawed on the front paws can still fight with its back claws? I have a friend whos house-cat with only back claws that has beaten stray cats with all their claws in a fight.
@Riddlewizard Just because one cat has succeeded at protecting itself doesn't mean they all can/will. Declawing is actually an amputation and is extreemly inhumane. There are alternatives like proper training and nail caps. Surgically altering an animals body should never be an option.

My concern was for the puppy. It was playing but the cat was stressed. I had my puppy for one week before it almost lost it's eye to our cat. It peaked into the box he was sleeping in and spooked my cat who took a swing but punctured it's eye. Scary couple of days waiting to see if we were going to be able to save the eye and then a few more days wondering if she was gonna see. Thankfully she is fine, a very tiny catarac and a slightly smaller eye b/c of lost fluid. But sight it good.

i think the big problem isnt that he had his ears done. its that you would allow them to continue this and not break it up. he could seriously hurt that cat if he wanted to and shes obviously stressed out and upset about it.

How can you do this to these poor animals?! I mean, good god! The dog's ears look like... chewed up... something... and the poor cat is all pissed and agitated and scratching at the dog who is obviously in discomfort at his mutliated ears. My auntie had dobermans while I lived with her and when she got their ears cropped they didn't look anything like that two days later!

They were done correct. If you knew anything about it. This is how its done. They were probably 2 days fresh in this video. Sutures were still intact. When incisions heal, stitches are removed, then you tape until they hold form. Takes around 4-12 months for the ears to hold form.

@larsonator69 you realise that 2 day old stitches tend to be itchy even on people. i have 2 dobermans-without docked ears and 2 cats who play with eachother and our dobeys always shake their heads because when a cat scratches their noses it hurts and they dont have the same mechanism as us to put something on it they just shake it off and keep playing....also in some countries docking of the tails and ears is illegal and in others it isn't so be better informed before you pass judgement.

If that cat's declawed, that's horrible. I clip my cat's nails every couple of weeks when they grow back, even though it takes some time. It's totally worth it as opposed to some unnecessary surgery. If someone can't clip his or her cat's nails, you can take them to the vet to have their nails clipped free of charge.

There´s so many things wrong with this video...De-clawed cat trying to defence itself against poor dog with cropped ears. Thank god where I live de-clawing, docking (is that what it´s called when they cut dogs tail,not sure..), ear cropping and other stupid, unnecessary operations are not allowed. And really, just tell the dog to back off, so the poor cat doesn´t have to be afraid in it´s own home.
PS: I´m sure there are lot´s of spelling errors etc., english is not my first language.

@Riddlewizard Just because one cat has succeeded at protecting itself doesn't mean they all can/will. Declawing is actually an amputation and is extreemly inhumane. There are alternatives like proper training and nail caps. Surgically altering an animals body should never be an option.

My cat is an indoor cat his front paws are declawed, if he wasnt we wouldnt have a sofa, curtains, waterbed, wall paper etc, etc. he isnt in pain, doesnt act like he misses them. Plus he prob. would have blinded our puppy. Or we could have left his claws and kept him outside, like most people do. Leaving him to the foxes, hawks, stray animals and cars. Inside he is a safe, spoiled and healthy 6 year old cat.
