its a shame sony charges so much and has such a bad patching system in place. its not till 6 -12 months after a patch that its compressed for faster updateing and re-downloading. alot of the games have amazing potential and some are still amazing games.

On a historical note, Privateers did not solely hunt pirates. They also prayed upon enemy trading which was extremely profitable and the main motivator for privateering. In a few cases, privateers would also go after smaller enemy naval vessels.

Other than that, nice review man.

I played this game for a week couldn't stand the ship action so I quit. I wanted to play more with my avatar rather then controlling a ship. I'd say its 90% ship shit and the rest you will control your avatar.

I really enjoyed this game the first month, but I chose not to renew my subscription.

Why? Because there's really not much to do. There is PVP action, but I'm not all interested in that. At least not enough to pay a monthly fee. And I guess there's manufacturing and making money, which may appeal to some players.. but with games like EVE Online, it really makes this game feel like a watered down version.

Great game, can see why people like it. It's just not for me. Sadly.

Pirates loves treasures, and treasures are everywhere, not just buried in sand but also underwater. So someone needs to swim down there to get em. Sadly this game is all about catching cannon balls with their mouth and poking their tight pants with swords.

Not what he means. In the real 1700s most people couldn't swim because people thought it was bad luck, that's why crews out at sea were almost always LOST at sea because they would drown. PotBS uses this, it is by far the msot realistic Pirate game to date as far as I have seen.

You forgot to mention 3 important things:

1) Every quest line is exactly the same regardless of what nationality you pick. So if you pick spanish, you end up in the exact same quest line as french.

2)If you want to participate in endgame content, you are forced to either be a naval officer or free trader.Privateer is useless later.

I used to play this game, I played all through the beta and a few months after it came out. I got to level 50 as a naval officer and then got a 3rd rate.

After that I got bored, the game is just too repedative.

Too true James. I know a bunch of people, including myself who pre-ordered the game.  However I think the BIGGEST mistake they did was to hand out 1st rates at the end of beta. I mean let's be honest. Some of us (pirates) knew that we would never really get a first rate. So being in one for free to mess around in kind of gave us our cheese without having to run through the maze of the game to get to it, if you follow my analogy.

Regardless, the game was fun for a short time.

However I would advise against buying the disk if you're unsure of what to expect from the game or might have seconds thoughts of ever playing it again. The disk costs about 50 USD to purchase from your local supermarket.

To be honest, I think the whole class thing on this game is pointless... you should choose nationality/pirate or w/e and make your decisions in game but they aren't stuck with you forever, then just have 1 character per server policy.

No it's not too cartoony, in game it shines. The large naval and land battles (port battles) are epic. Hearing the heavy cannons fire and hit home on your target makes it alll worth it.
