This CSA is not operated by the Center but we supported them in the name of sustainability. We will continue to see that customers are satisfied and the mission is fulfilled.
This video was produced the first year of Singer Hill's existance. (09) This year Jess and Jacob have taken on the job without the help of all the other folks you saw in the video. They have had a tough time with weather, illness and lack of help.
That is not to say the urban CSA is a bad idea. There are many that are successful, Don't give up.
What Singer Hill needs is more volunteers, more land and better organization. Look to hyperlocavore or or OUFF
We are pleased to announce a new partnership with "Super Natural" run by Sarah Lynch in Oregon City. Sarah has already taken over and tilled the land for winter cover crops. If you were a former shareholder, Please contact thecenter at sustainabletoday dot org and let us know if you are interested in continuing this great program.
I'd like to talk to more of these stakeholders and farmers, it appeared that Singer Hill Farms was ran only by Jessica and Jacob Dean since they cancelled the 2011 share after 11 paltry weeks with only 8 actual deliveries occuring. We never saw a single tomato, pepper, corn, snap pea or any other vegetable shown in this video other than greens. We received about enough vegetables each week to create a side dish and a salad. $700 for basically nothing. NEVER saw a bucket like the ones at 7:22
i LOVE singer hill gardens. we get two giant buckets of amazing, fresh food every week and couldn't be happier.
plus if you've never done a CSA before or eaten from your garden: it's great to eat local, and it's great to receive unexpected foods. Singer Hill emails recipes, too, so our palates and cooking skills are expanding, too.
At hyperlocavore we help farmers start this sort of CSA up. We also help neighbors do their own yard share gardens, produce exchanges and seed and tool shares. Please come by!
