Canon better for videos, Nikon for photos?

The Nikon has a bigger sensor so high ISO picture quality is noticeably better than the T3i's, however, it'll choose the ISO value automatically for video, which isn't great for low light situations (since it'll jump to 1600 or more). If you're mainly using it for pictures though, the D5100 is cheaper and better. My Sony XR500V has much better video quality in low light conditions, but I need to use the D5100 for pictures. During the day, the Nikon should be as good or better than the T3i.

@iSOBigD By the way, you can however start recording on the D5100 then hold the auto exposure lock button to keep it from changing ISO and shutter speed while recording, but it's a work-around, you really should have the option of adjusting those before and during recording.

Super tare reviewul! Bravo! Verdictul este clar, Canon 600D este peste Nikon 5100 la ceea ce inseamna calitate video si raspuns de adaptare la conditiile de lumina. Dar D5100 este peste Canon 600D la ceea ce inseamna poze. Are senzorul mai mare deci pixeli mai degajati mai ordonati, la 600D pixelii sunt multi 18mpx inghesuiti pe un senzor mic, deci pixelii aglomerati si implicit distorsiuni mari. La contururi Canon este relativ slab...distorsiuni si pixelari vizibile. Nikon e alegerea mea!

@blu3sh4dow4u o alegere buna,sensorul aps-c de la canon e doar putin mai mic nu mult mai mic dar sunt 18 mil pixeli asa ca 4,3 vs 4,7ù,oricum distorsiunile lipsesc la nikon datorita procesorului expeed 2 care le elimina in proportie de 99%,digic 4 de la canon nu le elimina,pot fi eliminate doar in PP,distorsiunile sunt direct pro cu, calitatea obiectivelor si e stie ca si aici obiectivele Nikon sunt mai performante.

Oricum daca te pricepi si vrei sa te apuci serios de fotografie

@bratosin1 da, e adevarat ca are unele avantaje D90. Dar D5100 are niste avantaje care compenseaza semnificativ. Cum ar fi ISO mai mare, calitatea imaginii ceva mai buna, adancimea culorilor putin mai buna, video 1080p fata de 720p, ecran full flip, 16 mpx (ceea ce nu e asa important, dar cand tai poza diferenta se simte), e mai usoara si mai mica. Si foarte important, are autofocus si pe mod video, desi nu are nicio setare in mod video..trist, D90 e putin mai rapid, dar prefer 5100.

@blu3sh4dow4u da ai dreptate cu toate ca d90 este 'semipro' are 4 ani in spinare,procesor expeed 1,etc. D5100 este aproape nou nouta (2011) tehnologie 90% imprumutata de la top end d7000,pacat de partea video...nici macar nu se compara cu 600d,se vede ce experienta au baietii de la Canon in acest domeniu...Daca ar avea Nikon partea video de la canon la ce poze face ar fi camera pefecta :)

@bratosin1 teoretic o camera foto o iei pentru a imortaliza o scena. practic vad functia video la un dsrl ca pe un moft, un extra, dar totusi util uneori. merg pe D5100. E incantator de bine facuta, la un pret oarecum accesibil. cand o sa fac rost de bani o sa va anunt cum face poze un hasselblad :))

Multi nu stiu ca 50% din calitatea unei foto o dau obiectivele,si ca sa ai calitate trebuie sa fotografiezi in RAW+ elaborare PP....

Nu regret ca mi-am luat canonul. Desi obiectivele de Nikon sunt mai ieftine si mai bune (nu vorbim de L desigur). Dar controlul manual in timpul filmului? Sa fim seriosi. Cind invarti de rotita aia ca sa schimbi ISO sau timp de expunere sau diafragma se zguduie imaginea din toate incheieturile. Nu ai cum sa folosesti un film de genu asta decit daca ai aparatul legat fedeles de ceva Extrem De Greu. Observ line skipping mai redus la Canon. Sa fie oare procesorul mai rapid? :D

Everybody is discussing about Autofocus,.. which is not important for real photographers/video makers.

In my humble opinion, Nikon had better depth on colors and contrast than Canon, as well as definition, if you look closely (turning the full HD on), watch the grass and tree's details and color depth, as well as good balance between dark and light parts on the same frame, Canon was a little bit too contrasted for me.
