  • Such a touching piece ever written in latin. Shame Pergolesi died from Tuberculosis at age 26.

    Poor dude.

  • Very beautiful.

I had this on (I seem to remember) a double album (pristine heavyweight vinyl). Original pressing.

    Somebody stole it in 1995

Whilst I curse their very soul for the theft...

I at least admire their taste...

  • too slow..... !! unacceptable..

  • if you hate this go to hell

  • THIS TUNE ,when play get mix my BLOOD,deeply sung

  • Thank you.

This piece is a vital part of my Sundays.

  • This is a vital part of my Sunday. Thank you.

  • This is a refreshingly different contrast (Stark ...even) to the Emma Kirkby/James Bowman/Acad. Anc Music version which has been the awesome standard for years....and I (and many others) think that the recent Vivica Genaux/ Sabina Puertolas/Les Talens Lyriques is simply the best....an AMAZING! perfomance, probably the best ever recorded....(so far)

I like the solemn pace, and stark orchestration of this. This is one of the best Three ....thanks so much for posting this...HARMONICO101

  • Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

  • Along with The Doors of course

  • That is music.along wih a

  • This piece really suits the theme of Christ's death well! Love it!

  • GORGEOUS

  • Son Anderson &Bartoli , no es asi?

  • ugly faces at that time

  • @emanuelszabo27 After reading your comment I think that the one on the left of the picture looks like an italian man I've seen.

  • [...] Quando corpus morietur,

    fac, ut animae donetur

    paradisi gloria.

[...] And when my body will die,

let be given to my soul

    the glory of Paradise.

[...] E quando il mio corpo morirà

fà che alla mia anima sia donata

    la gloria del Paradiso.

    AMEN.

  • I love, Love, LOVE this piece!

  • I love Mingardo so much. And this production is wonderful in all areas all around, thank you for uploading all parts!

  • Very cool indeed. I don't think I've heard a more sensitive performance.

  • Mary forgot to shave the stubbles before she posed for this painting, apparently... -.-

  • This is by far the best version in my opinion. Rossini's is nice, so is vivaldi's. Haydn's...kinda weird. Palestrina...eh..

  • beautiful !

  • The pizzicato bassline in the continuo sounds like tears dropping on the ground. Reminds me of the Erbarme Dich in Bach's Matthew Passion which also sounds like tears. Heart rending stuff once you make the connection.

  • Great Continuo Group! Bravo!

  • Splendid rendition. Bravissimas!!

  • Pergolesi died when he was twenty-six, so there aren't a lot of compositions by him. If he had lived longer and composed more he would be better known.

  • It sounds like Mozart was influenced by this when writing his Requiem in D minor.

  • wonderful

  • I listen to this one nonstop. Most beautiful version I've heard. Thank you SO much for posting this!

  • Definitely the best Stabat Mater I have heard... and I think I now have even more respect for Alessandrini and the Concerto Italiano than I did when I head your upload of the Brandenburg Concertos.

  • Pergolesi was actually one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time. Read his bio.

  • Truly exceptional sound colour of the violins - and voices of course - in the opening movement! Really prepares for a great work and a great rendition...

  • Best two-female version on youtube. The ensemble is great! I'd love to see the rest of the movements from this performance.

  • Can anyone name the ode to joy contada by JS Bach? I heard it at church today and wish I could find it! Please tell me where I can find it... very much appreciated!

  • Beautiful'

  • I like this music. When I listen Pergolesi I can learn, read,write...

  • Great!, thank u so much!

  • Can anybody tell me the name of the soprano??? Please!

  • Gemma Bertagnolli and Sarah Mongardo is contralto, Alessandrini conducts. look at the part 10-11 for the credits Harmonico101 has put them there

  • Credits are on all of my videos.

  • I am sorry I did not mean to insult you. i just did not notice. congratulations for the excellent work

  • I felt no insult. Just thought I should point it out. :)

  • Very interesting performance. And nice tempo. Who are the performers?

  • In the description. I have credits for all my videos.

  • @Draziw777 maybe gundula janowitz

  • @Draziw777 maybe gundula janowitz

  • Who are the soloists? wonderful post, btw.

  • In the description. I have credits for all my videos.

  • @HARMONICO101 Just because you take credit doesn't mean you performed the piece.

  • It's slow- but it is a sad piece, so it's justified.

I love it- so lovely and sad! D:

  • Yes, it's a little slow, but it's a great interpretation!!!!

The picture isn't scary...it's simply wonderful! It's "the dead Christ supported by Maria and John" by Giovanni BELLINI (1460). You can see it in the "Pinacoteca Brera" in Milano, Italy

  • Much to slow, not flowing movements.

  • Indeed, it is way slower than many interpretations, but it is very emotional and flowing I think.

  • It's purely a matter of getting used to the tempo. Once you do, you will feel how brilliant this recording is.

  • why is Pergolesi so underrated?...

  • He wrote very little music and died young. This is his great masterpiece that was hailed as genius after his death, by his contemporaries.

  • @McQuackor

    because he died at 26...

if he hadn't, I believe we would be talking about a "Mozart" by now

  • @FliegendeHollaender

I believe that had he not died so young, his accomplishments would have surpassed that of W.A. Mozart. I mean, even the maturity of his compositional style when he wrote this was greater than Mozart's own at this age.

  • @McQuackor cause he composed to many opera buffa :P

  • @McQuackor Unknown is not the same as underrated

  • Thanks HARMONICO101. Your videos have shown me a lot about the Baroque repertoire and gotten me to like some period performance. This recording is different (I think even by Baroque standards) especially the small accompanimant, but its great.

  • The picture is simply marvellous.I guess it's by Govanni Bellini, isn't it?

  • Well I guess it is a nice picture... I don't know if it's by Bellini though...

  • Is this in the right tone?

  • Baroque tuning. A=415 Hz

  • Thanks, it sounds different than what I'm used to hear.

  • HARMONICO100, please, give me more details about this CD. Thank you.

  • I've sent you a message with a nice link to the CD since I can't post it in this comment box.

    Thanks for asking!

  • Can you please give me the details, too?

I found two CDs with this Alessandrini/ Mingardo/ Bertagnolli recording of the Pergolesi Stabat Mater. One CD also featuring the Vivaldi, the other also featuring the Scarlatti Stabat Mater. Do you know if the Pergolesi recording is the same on both CDs? Thanks in advance.

  • The performances are the same. The version with the Pergolesi and Vivaldi is a special, cheaper compilation. Personally, I recommend this one because it has my two favorite Stabat Maters on one disc.

  • Thank you, Harmonico101!

I really thought that Scholl was the most appropriate voice for the Pergolesi Stabat Mater, but I was totally wrong. Thank you again for posting and your reply. I already ordered this Disc at amazon.

  • Grandioso!
