Also note please don't review this amp based on part 1 as thats only the normal channel which is too bright and thin for most applications the boost channel is alot better and what I use 99% of the time.
Thanks. It does sound a hell of alot better in person. The mic I used wasn't that great and I've got better valves and know how to tweak it better for a warmer sound. There are decent solid state sounds but they never sound like this. Youtube isn't the best for judging amps I mean alot of people record there 100watt Marshall on 1 and that usually soudns worse then most solid states or digitals.
@eatthemoon13 Does to me too and there is a good reason for that.Although this amp is all tube, the circuit design is typical anemic VOX style preamps/amps.It gives what some guys call 'chime" I call it something else.
ya thats right ,it's designed to sound like a solid state amp with a 6-inch speaker and is further exacerbated by the use of a telecaster which is really the only guitar that sounds any good with it.
Haven't tried the Night Train. From what I've heard on clips and such the nighttrain isn't as clean and jangly as this but the thick switch could probably get better high gain sounds. The Nighttrain gets raving reviews and I think either is great if you want a smaller lower powered VOXish sounding amp head.
@properpropeller These does not sound like a decent amp to me.the night train does have the jingle jangle sound also has other sounds has alot more options and sounds than this trust me.
I'm using a Lopoline convertible cab (with the closed cab bit taken out so it essentially an open back) with Warehouse speakers Reaper (G12H-30 clone) and Green Beret (Greenback Clone).

@JimijaymesGuitarist
actually the bright channel sounds really good,in this demo anyhow...the Emi Cannabis Rex(hemp cone) gets rave reviews for turning overly bright amps into very smooth/balanced sounding amps.
I have one on order and have considered this Frenzel amp as well.I prefer the sound of brighter amp into a warmer speaker..Still enjoying it?

@MultiBinno I agree with the OP's description.Also we see the owner saying himself that the tone is bright and thin.
It's a VOX style preamp circuit notorious for low-fi, thin and bright tones -what some guys call "chime" what I call the "plinkety-plink" tone
Somewhat like a cheap solid state amp with a 6 inch speaker.

What do you think sounds better: This or a vox night train?

What speaker are you using for this sound? Is the cab open or closed back? - Brett
