oh my gosh. I just read this book in about 4 hours today! Picked it up at goodwill cause I had heard about the guy on the news. Congrats to all who had a hand in rescuing this pup and condolences to those who had and lost their dogs to the rule.
Great story... Grateful for your heart to stay the course and not give up to get Lava stateside... Great story. Glad there is a beautiful ending after all the Marines endure... Thank you!
A beautiful and moving story. It is great that Jay Kopelmann and other soldiers have rescued and adopted homeless dogs in Iraque. An act of kindness towards these vulnerable and gentle creatures, who are also victims of the war.
I never cried reading a book as much as I did as when I read "from Bagdhad with Love" - and I read it three times. One of the best books ever. Remarkable story. I will read it again, along with the follow-up book, "From Baghdad to America: Life after War for a Marine and His Rescued Dog".
Please support Puppy Rescue Mission in Facebook and spread the word about it. These heroic dogs are getting the media attention but more dogs needs the rescue because it also means happy soldiers. You and our troops deserves these dogs and MORE especially that you guys give your ALL. Rufus and Target will be in Huckabee this Wed.or Thurs.in Fox News and Oprah coming up soon. I will buy your book and tell my friends also Puppy Rescue Mission members about your book. GOD Luck to you & Lava.
God bless you,all our troops and these precious dogs. Good guys like you make this world a better place. I just wish the public is more aware then so you & many soldiers were spared of the burdens in getting Lava to America. I support SPCA Baghdad Pups but most of all Puppy Rescue Mission in Facebook. They are fast in reuniting dogs with soldiers and have an amazing heroic story of Rufus,Target and Sasha saving our troops from a suicide bomber.
I LOVE this story. I read the book at least three times, plus the other book he wrote.
I don't think I ever cried so much reading a book. Such a beautiful and unusual story.
I wish there were videos of Lava as a puppy. What a sweet, gorgeous puppy, there's one photo, when he's holding Lava in his arms and Lava's eyes are closed.
I read the book today! In 8 hours! Loved it.Now searched if there is something on it on youtube and found this! Im so moved!!! I loved the book! Im a huge fan of Laava now!
Thank you for sharing your story....I was so moved by your story (and Lava) along with the other stories of animals helping our soldiers who are only trying to protect us....I am now going to find a way to become part of this mission (besides donating money which I did)...you are Lave are real heroes and everyone should know that
I wasn't telling you to correct your spelling because I was trying to be cool or anything (although that is true enough in itself), but what I was also trying to say is that I didn't understand shit from what you said.
Plus, the fact that English is my 3rd language and that I can type/speak it better than you, is enough proof that you're a complete dumbass. And yes I'm a terrorist, what are you gonna' do about it?
@Kra7as Hey who says i got to go i got friends over thare that would just love for me to tell them all about you and btw you dont scare me cuss dont think iv had to put some one near death. and i aint afread to kill a rag head goat fucker like your sef cuss i woulfd do it quick.btw you saying all your shit on youtube so yah the fbi is probly on to you. btw FUCK MUAHAMID i think if we gave you islams some lsd and viagra you would hjave pornographic vision of alia.
FBI after me? What are you talking about dumbass? Where's my ''freedom of speech"?
And this time, I won't make an exemption, I'm not sure if all Marines are illiterate uneducated dumbshits like you, but I don't know what (lsd, hjave, alia, probly, muhamid, woulfd, iv, thare, yah) mean.
Also, I'm not a raghead, those "rags" you talk about aren't worn in Iraq, only in Gulf countries.
Also, by saying fuck Mohammad were you trying to insult ME? I though this debate was between you and me, why did you go 1450 years back at someone and curse him? You're one, miserable sad weak cunt.
@Kra7as yah well at lest my country alows women to work and show thare faces and after i got off of hear from hsveing to waste my time im going to fuck my wife drink a beer and smoke my reds, so fuck you and hope the mid east turns to glass
Women in my country work and show their faces too, my mother is a teacher and my sister is an business woman. If you were a real marine you'd know that the unemployment of men in Iraq is higher than that of women. Meaning that women are giving equal rights to men. Also, we value our women more than you fuckers do, at least we don't talk about them as if they were tools to satisfy our sexual desires, like you just said. And the Mid East won't turn to glass, America will.
@Kra7as you dont know shit the us women wark my than men. and we love sex after work yet you say we are bad for it but we love it and if you have not read what i said is im going in 2 weeks and you just a cluster fuck that hates us. but you go another thing commeing.
I read the italian translation of the book and I found it very exciting.. I cried.. sometimes.. I'm an italian police officer and I can't say if you are a good marine Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman, but I'm sure that you are a great man.. a fantastic person..
This is a great story and there are many more like this that the ASPCA helped bring back. Check out From War Zone to Real Home. I was curious to know and see something more about LAVA, a brave, remarkable, cute dog that contribute to give support and save the soldier´s emotional condition and keep under control... the best line in the whole book: 'Why wasn't my time spent helping people instead of a puppy? I don't know, and I don't care, but at least I saved something.' fantastic story
The book is very smashing:)i cannot belive how many people tryied to get out of Irak a dog....very impresion....although i hate that the pictures are black and white;))X(
I have just finished reading this wonderful book and would like to take my hat off to the people that made this rescue possible, it has restored my faith in human beings. True determination won through in the end. My best wishes to Ltc Koppelman and of course Lava who is one lucky dog. Good luck for the future
Same. :)Besides the Lava Dogs and the Ltc Koppelman, though, the army's full of assholes. I mean, come on! They hire people to kill animals that are being cared for by Marines? It pisses me off just thinking about it. Oh well, at least Koppelman's daring rescue of this absolutely adorable little dog serves as a huge smack in the face to the corrupt and heartless Department of Defense. I hope they'll drop their harsh rules on taking care of animals.
You are truly one of the better examples of humanity. I just finished your book and it still blows my mind away. Lava is a special little thing and I'm so glad that he has made it to the States and to you.
I'm reading the book right now and i'm reading it for a book report in my 9th grade english class, and we have the choice to take the book and make it into a mobile or a childrens book, so im doing the childrens book and im making it a pop up book. :)
yea i just finished the book to and i was curious to see if there was a video on you tube about. I'm so glad to hear he's doing well. I think It's great that you guys saved him. :).
Just finished the latest book last night 8 Jul 08. Was very heart warming like the first book. It was a great privelege to meet you once again at Fort Bragg. Is there anything going on with the Lava Fund you mentioned?
One of those books I couldn't bear to put down, but on the other hand didn't want to end. A wonderful story. Just looked on you tube on the off chance, and it made my day ! Thank you. Every happiness to you and your family, especially Lava.
I just read the book in 3 hours could not put it down. After reading the book I had to look online as i knew i would find live video of Lava. He is beautiful. Thank you for writing the book and mostly for saving Lavas life. I know as a dog lover, i have 4 dogs a 170# Rott, 15 yr old Shitzi 10yr old Toy poodle and a 4 mth old toy poodle. I know when I am driving and see a dog on the road I have to stop and rescue them, they do not know and do not have a voice so we need to be their voice!!!
Bought the book 26/07/08, finshed 27/07/08. Absolutely incredible, you lovely soft
Marines, well done lads, great job well done. Everyone involved (Sam particularly !) deserve TRUE recognition. Hope Lava lives a long and prosperous life. Enjoy it together..
This book is amazing i finished it yesterday but i could read it all over again today! Lava is a lucky dog to have his family around him and people that care so much about him. My puppy is 7 months old so i know how great a dog can be in your life and they change it forever. Well done to everyone that saved him you have changed his life and touched many lives by telling his unique story to the world. Thank you for sharing it with us all x
I just finished reading the book last night - before I even saw this video. It's a great story; Lava is fortunate to have such a dedicated and loyal owner. You two deserve one another. Job Well Done!
Well done lads, great to see that some of the best trained and effective fighting troops still have the heart and the humanity to help these defenceless creatures, greatest respect to the Lave Dogs. Dave UK
This book was fantastic! It was not only heartwarming but so informative as to what really is happening in this war - not CNN's version. I learned a lot and of course, being a dog lover myself, sat on the edge of my seating reading each page. I still think about the ones in the pups in the sewer with the dirt thrown on them.
My best friend is also a dog and reading this book was so heart warming to see that even the thoughest people out there will protect and care for them.
Good Luck with the dog training :)
Thank you for writing this book and in away giving us all hope x
my best friend and i absolutely LOVE that book - Lava sounds like the cutest lil rascal the world's ever seen!! lol
i luvd the book to bits and the footage of Lava in this vid haz made my heart melt! i'm so happy for him that hes livin such a gr8 life - he's unbelievably lucky to have you in his life just as much as you are to have him :)
thanx for an amazing story thats changed the lives of so many! :D
Today is my birthday. My wife gave me this book, among other things, as a gift. I'm almost finished reading it. I haven't been able to put it down. I'm also a combat veteran, but I've cried throughout the book. Only someone who's seen the elephant can understand. 'Glad to hear that Lava is doing fine. Thanks Ltc. Kopelman. Semper Fi! Ooh Rah!
I loved the book and the strength of this man to not give up on Lava. When Lava came home a reporter questioned this marine about rescuing a dog instead of a person, he hugged the dog and said at least I saved something! Everyday our men and women are serving to help us and the people of Iraq.
I just finished the book. Absolutely loved it. So proud of this strong masculine marine who allowed love to creep up on him unawares, and made him go to bat for this wonderful dog. If only more people were capable of this kind of love for animals, the world would truly be a better place, for all of us.
I have this book! I love hearing these stories about dogs rescued from Iraq. I am so proud of our military men and women who, with a very few exceptions, are the best USA has to offer. They do have huge hearts for the children they meet in Iraq and the animals. Thank you for your service to our country. God bless!
As a Iraq vet myself I used to play with the dogs in Iraq and felt really bad for their situation. I have read From Baghdad with love 5 times over it has been a great experience. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone. Espically if your a combat vet.
This is a cool video... I have LTC Kopelman's book... And as an Iraq vet myself, I am here to say that the "Puppy over the cliff" video is either fake or an isolated incident... We adopted a couple of puppied when I was there, but nobody could figure out how to brign them back to the states... Im happy that Lava got a second chance at life... If I ran into any soldier throwing a puppy to his / her death, I'd put that soldier in the hospital... That disgusts me
really makes up for all the dogs those cruel ass american soldiers are killing. join the facebook group if you have facebook. it shows soldiers tying puppies paws togehter and throwing them mad far. its the sickest, most twisted disgusting shit ive ever seen!
this is great. such a relief. some say, people meet people at the perfect timing regardless. not too late, not too early. maybe same goes between us and animals.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The video is a fake. Like Cpl Matt Sanchez says, Marines and soldiers are NOT allowed to have any contact with puppies or any type of animal while in Iraq.
I just recently got the book and just started reading it today. AMAZING. What a great story about Lava and you. GOD BLESS YOU for rescuing him. What breed is he?
This video was brought to my attention from a fellow Iraqi from Baghdad. While I love animals and believe that no harm should come to them (they are God's creation and with that comes respect), I think it's kinda lame that you saved this puppy while your Army Unit is killing innocent Iraqi civilians. No wonder the Iraqi's hate American forces.
Finding Lava was just a fluke and it just happened to be, just because a war is going on doesn't mean that it is okay to leave a starving, helpless puppy to sure death. And that puppy helped them as much they helped him.
I just read the last line of the book. A great story and what a dogg! A total Colgate addict ;-) Not to forget about Jay Kopelman! He shows militairy employees / marines have hearts and arent only killers. A great story!
Is it o.k. for a marine to get some tears in his eyes while reading this book?
hey, i just finished the book. well what can i say? i could not put it down! what a journey. this story opened my eyes to what is really going on over there & the questions he asks the universe when he's waiting for the news about the outcome of lava's journey were incredible. but the best bit for me was the last page and there are no ways to describe the joy i felt! read it...you won't be sorry. this video is so very welcome. thanks for letting us see it.
I've just finished reading this book and i am in tears of joy now. I wouldn't of heard about this book or this story if it wasn't for the story i read in Dogs Today magazine. Lava is a gorgeous dog and i'm glad they're all happy now =]
im really a dog fan and when this book came out in the store i read the back of it and fell in luv with it. i am doing a book review on from baghdad with love and im happy the lieutenant colonel jay and the marines found lava =)i think that this video is awsome
i read the book i love it and finding this video is the best thing ever, after seeing the photos in the book i find Lava much happier and bigger i would love to see him in actual reality i tell all my friends about the book and tell them to read it
After reading the book, I found myself wishing to see lava and Lieutenant Kopelman. I stumbled upon this video while doing some research for an article on soldier's perspectives on the War in Iraq, and was so delighted.
olá jay você é maravilhoso adorei o teu livro, logo amei o lava , você consegui mostrar que os marines são pessoas normais e que pensam.homem o mundo precisa de mais pessoas com tu.beijinhos a koda e claro tambem pro lava.
This book touched me sooo much. I love every page of it. It's inspiring and exciting and an emotional roller coaster ride. I know none of us could ever imagine what Lava and Jay had to go through. I couldn't put the book down and was taken with it from start to finish and it's great to know that Lava and Jay are both happy back home after all they've been through. ^-^
What a great guy you are. Preserving your humanity amidst all that stress in Irak, risking your life for your country, taking care of Lava and bringing him home. Bless you.
Saw your speech in Orlando, couldn't wait to get home and see if I could find pictures of Lava, he is adorable. Thank you for your service to our country, it is people like you that make it all worthwhile. A long happy and healthy life to you and your family and of course, that includes Lava.
Congratulations, Jay! I love animals, mainly dogs, cause they are our best friend. Lava is lovely dog and all dogs need our care. You are the best! Thank you for this book!

I have just finished reading this wonderful book and would like to take my hat off to the people that made this rescue possible, it has restored my faith in human beings. True determination won through in the end. My best wishes to Ltc Koppelman and of course Lava who is one lucky dog. Good luck for the future
smilton5 3 years ago 4
Kibaslash 3 years ago 2
This book is truly gripping!
Thanks Ltc Koppelman for sharing all the things!
I wish for good health of all the people who helped you and wish you and Lava all the best!

LTC Kopelman,
Just finished the latest book last night 8 Jul 08. Was very heart warming like the first book. It was a great privelege to meet you once again at Fort Bragg. Is there anything going on with the Lava Fund you mentioned?
linnehan9 3 years ago

My puppy is 7 months old so i know how great a dog can be in your life and they change it forever. Well done to everyone that saved him you have changed his life and touched many lives by telling his unique story to the world. Thank you for sharing it with us all x

Everyday our men and women are serving to help us and the people of Iraq.
epr73 3 years ago 4
I just finished the book. Absolutely loved it. So proud of this strong masculine marine who allowed love to creep up on him unawares, and made him go to bat for this wonderful dog. If only more people were capable of this kind of love for animals, the world would truly be a better place, for all of us.

I have this book! I love hearing these stories about dogs rescued from Iraq. I am so proud of our military men and women who, with a very few exceptions, are the best USA has to offer. They do have huge hearts for the children they meet in Iraq and the animals. Thank you for your service to our country. God bless!

Its refreshing to hear something like this after fuming over the fiasco that was the "puppy over the cliff" incident. Americans do have an heart??
balmbra911 4 years ago 3
This is a cool video... I have LTC Kopelman's book... And as an Iraq vet myself, I am here to say that the "Puppy over the cliff" video is either fake or an isolated incident... We adopted a couple of puppied when I was there, but nobody could figure out how to brign them back to the states... Im happy that Lava got a second chance at life... If I ran into any soldier throwing a puppy to his / her death, I'd put that soldier in the hospital... That disgusts me
JACKNCOKE223 3 years ago 6

rockybudgeboa 4 years ago
This video was brought to my attention from a fellow Iraqi from Baghdad. While I love animals and believe that no harm should come to them (they are God's creation and with that comes respect), I think it's kinda lame that you saved this puppy while your Army Unit is killing innocent Iraqi civilians. No wonder the Iraqi's hate American forces.
MuslimahAgent08 4 years ago
Finding Lava was just a fluke and it just happened to be, just because a war is going on doesn't mean that it is okay to leave a starving, helpless puppy to sure death. And that puppy helped them as much they helped him.

Is it o.k. for a marine to get some tears in his eyes while reading this book?

hey, i just finished the book. well what can i say? i could not put it down! what a journey. this story opened my eyes to what is really going on over there & the questions he asks the universe when he's waiting for the news about the outcome of lava's journey were incredible. but the best bit for me was the last page and there are no ways to describe the joy i felt! read it...you won't be sorry. this video is so very welcome. thanks for letting us see it.
