  • ahahahaha top secret kitchen!!!

  • Were flights more expensive at the time? 800 miles is a long way to go by train. I'm from the UK, small country OK, but it generally gets affordable to fly from London to Scotland which is 400 miles. Anything less and its not worth it.By the way, did you or your buddy work in China as teachers or something? Coz he speaks the lingo it seems??

  • @gp4nut This video is part of a 60-something part series about adventuring in China, shot in 2007-2008. We were living in Beijing at the time, working at a university. And we both speak the lingo. Thx for watching and commenting!

  • @monkeetime awesome. thanks for your reply. fascinating for you guys to have lived there during such incredible times. you'll have stories (and videos indeed!) to tell the grandkids! :)

  • interesting! They are scared at the cameras...

  • If you are travelling solo but want a soft sleeper, do you have to pay for the whole compartment or will they place other people in with you?

  • @lesleyburt Train seats are always sold individually, meaning you buy a spot, it's yours, thats all you worry about. You will invariably have other travelers in your compartment with you, but in soft sleeper compartments you tend to have fairly well-groomed people and none of the adventures of the hard seat (smoking, spitting, yelling, babies crying, etc).

  • I am so sorry for their bad service, it is so impolite compare to U.S. But I hope Amrican people can teach these servents how to treat a customers on the train.

  • I miss home already...

  • I from Shanghai... it's so fucking funny...

  • tks

  • so...i dont get it were those people being racist to them or what??

  • I took the Z19 train from Beijing to Xi'an and there are four LCD TVs in each room (ear plugs too).

  • thank you for you to come and see the real china

  • 很高兴你能了解一些中国近代史.呵呵

    Nice work!

  • thx for the video, i learnt so much abt china

  • hey, monkeetime, i love ur videos, and i think u did a great job to show the real china.

as a chinese, i apologize for some rude responses, just ignore it. since u've been living in china for so long, u must understand what "face" means to most chinese.

china is not perfect, but its still a lovely country.

btw, u got a wired sense of humor

  • Oh, I agree with the sense of humor thing!

And you are right, it's the face thing a lot of the time. I also push the envelope a lot.

  • Don't push the envelope. What did it ever do to you?

  • I fucking HATE the envelope!!! Just busting in with its crap when you are busy doing something else, always "me me me!!!", I mean, wtf!?!?!? I can't believe more people don't hate the damn envelope!

  • China (and a couple of other countries around the world) have a strong ability to test the visitors because the culture is so different.

I have a very schizophrenic experience here, one day I get incredibly pissed off with someone scamming me or doing something that affects me (smoking, pushing, etc.) and then the next day I am raving about the great scenery, the friendly people on the train, or the wicked food. That's just reality of backpacking.

  • most chinese like to talk loudly (admit it or not), which seems really rude for westerners, thats a culture difference. but as a tradition, chinese tend to be friendly to foreigners from deep inside.

i used to live in beijing, i know some beijingers can be really nasty. my response to them was to shout back and be ever nastier. but at the same time, chinese over all r nice ppl.

  • I agree, even if it is hard to remember sometime. Every country has it's share of loud and pushy people... Have you been to Israel??? Or Pakistan... The key thing is to remember that I wanted to come here to see the land. It's just easy to lose it when you are trying to get some stuff done and are a bit stressed out.

  • Most people don't make videos, so it is very easy to come off as an asshole or retarded, but really a lot of people experience the same thing, in China, India, Thailand, and anywhere else you can think of.

  • But thank you for posting!!!!

  • you should watch the show "paul merton in china", a english comedian's chinese experience, quite interesting.

i was watching ur videos the whole night, u've travelling a lot. but several places u should check: suzhou, wuyuan(typical chinese village), huangshan. north china is mostly masculine, while south china got the beauty of softness. enjoy ur days in china!

  • Oh, don't get me started on not having enough time. One could travel here for 10 years and still not see all there is to see. I had 2 years between Beijing and Taipei, and only got to do a tiny piece...

  • Wowzers, a Michael Bolton with dreads in China. How neat!

  • those 2 traveling are fucking asshole they treat chinese like shit .they not allowed to come china go to hell your wanker

  • Holy shit.. I actually watched the whole video thinking maybe I forgot and actually treated someone like shit.

northbobbby, you are an idiot. You either don't understand whats going on, or you are overly sensitive and need a good slapping with a dick. At no point was anyone treated like shit, we only dicked around a bit with the scammers.

Does it offend you that much? Just suck it up, princess...

  • And good luck keeping me out of China as I have a permanent residency stamp in my passport. Unless you are the Ambassador (which I doubt judging by your spelling abilities) you will just have to put up with my shitty and awful videos. Freedom of expression, dickface!

Now off you go to your Justin Timberlake videos...

  • fuck off you are a queer . dickhead all you try be funny .try to be professional. i can tell by this video you come china just want suck chinese dick !!!! but sorry bro we do produce gay in this country good luck with you homo stuff

  • u bent homo Uit China Je probeert te cool eigenlijk u een fool.Niet vertellen mensen je al naar china schaam je Stupaid engels alle boer haat uw Kom uit suid-Afrika

  • Hey, are you writing in Afrikans or just drunk? Hahahahahahah... I am funny, and you are an idiot, and there is fuck all you can do about it other than send me some e-mails and go back to beating-off your dog. Have a nice day.

  • Hey, if you hate my stuff, why did you subscribe??? And are you in love with Justin Timberlake??? It's ok, it's your life, but really man, Justin Tmberlake? ...not a good choice....

  • you fucking stupiad that is worst video i ever see fuck off you are asshole plz do not ever come china again

  • Hahahaha!!! You are right!!!

  • what does ur shirt say?

  • "Your mom would like me"

(It's true, EVERYONE's mom likes me!!!)

  • lol

  • You never showed what those scammers were trying to do

  • Oh, sorry.. My bad. It's a bit of a continuation from previous vids. What they do is usually the same. Approach a tourist, try to pretend to be friends, invite for tea at a very very expensive teahouse (upwards of 100 yuan per cup), then say "sorry no money, you pay". After you pay and leave pissed off, they get a percentage of the money you spent.

  • It always starts with "Hello, where are you from?" followed by "Do you like tea?".

A variation on that is "Come to my art gallery" or "come see my brother's shop". Very tiring.
