  • Horses spend 8 min in vet check and humans have a 15 minute head start!?!

    Real fair.

  • wow, amazing -.-

The horses were damn trotting -.-

im so amazed the man won -.-<<not amused.

  • that's not possible - if they set of at the same time and the terrain was fair for both horse and runners the horses would have beaten them by miles.

  • god i wouldn't dare take my horse he would be like "YAY Gallop everywhere" XD maybe even run over a few humans in the progress lol

  • @mousey16 hahaha mine too xD

  • the actual reason why a man can outrun a horse in an ENDURANCE race is because the body mass of a horse is way more then that of a human. Therefore it is allot harder for them to cool down as efficiently through sweating. There has been scientific studies done on this. If however it was a short distance sprint the horse would kick the humans arse. Also the reason why they were trotting so much is because they were pacing their horses (i train endurance horses) so as to not use all energy at once

  • @vondom1s The reason they are trotting is because cantering on road and surfaces they where having the race on is bad for their joints and horse can very easily slip on it. Horses can run a mile and a little over that at 35 to 40 miles. They would have no prob doing a easy canter for 20 miles on a surface that isn't bad for them. There are races where horses canter and trot only for longer distances and finish in good times

  • @RunLikeAFilly

I know that it's also because of the hard surfaces, most people with even a little horse knowledge know that. But it still doesn't change the fact that if there was i serious endurance race, let's give a hypothetical like there's a race from point A to point B which would be 200 kilometres (124miles) apart all on soft dirt. The horse and the human are both in peak physical condition. The human would beat the horse through perspiration and cooling efficiency.

  • @vondom1s Uhm, you forget that if the horses were in peak condition, and their trainers knew waht they would doing, a canter would have been more efficient, as a horse works a whole lot more in a trot than in a canter, and even long distance the horse would still kick the humans arse, otherwise there would never have been a need for us to learn how to ride them. They have more stamina and endurance than humans,

  • @vondom1s and if you want to cool them down, use whiskey, it works wonders, but usually if a horse is fit it wouldn't really be overworked at all, I know kids who ride endurance and their horse complete a 40 km course in just under three hours, and the horse passed all vet checks along the way.

  • i thought this title said: MAN BEATS HORSE IN FACE CROSS COUNTY ...

why why did my brain make up about 3 words? strange..

  • I ride 35 km in 1 hour and 30 minuts. Soo, wanna race against me?

  • it could have beaten the man easily but the horses were only on trot so he could go faster.

  • wow hes not kenyan

  • lets strap a horse to the runners back now

  • lol thumbs if you saw the guy in the horse costume at 0:24 XD

  • well, the people know how much they can push themselves, but the humans probably want to make sure they don't overwork and tire the horses out too much.

  • When i saw the title i thought it was like... horse abuse or something :P

  • The horses aren't on terrain that's suitable for their feet. I don't see it as fair.

  • @TheOllie252 Yeah, they're not going to be able to have their horses go full out on the concrete parts...

  • i live in this town and know all the horses in this vid and for those of you saying man couldnt beat the horse LIE men ahve beaten horses in this race once or twice..so it is possible :)

  • 0:03

Is hillarious! Look at the lady like jump onto the sidewalk!! Hahaha!

  • If I was in that race, I would be i last palce, because my horse would flip out over the water!!!!

  • Lemme race that guy with a horse. He'll trample the man.

  • See If this was a rase, they would canter most of the way and the people on foot would of been thrashed :L

  • @ponieslovers81 erm btw it IS a race...... and yes people gallop most fo the way however it is over 30 miles and they have to be vet checked frequently to check their blood pressure and cool down so no you are wrong...... most fot he time horses win but sometimes men do =D

  • @crazywelshchick22 I think your pretty out numbered tbh, look at all your other comments? :L, not being harsh or any thing so dont take it the wrong way :L x

  • @ponieslovers81 so.....do they live in the town? NO did they/you work as a vets assistant att he event this year NO and have they/you for 10 years watched this race NO but thansk for not being mean im juts iared of ppl thinking they know when they dont :) x

  • @crazywelshchick22 I suppose, in a long distance race, but on the achullual race like at a racecorse they would, It depends really :L x

  • Maybe if the horses or the owners would have actually made them trot instead of basically prancing in place or had them slowly canter the entire way they would have won smart ass

  • @OctoberSky98 lol horses win alot actually and most fo the horses are highly sprung arabs and endurance horses who are excitable and so and rearign to go thats why they prance and they cant slowly canter as the first bit is on concrete however they gallop lots fo it

  • maybe because the horses were trotting.....

    just saying.

  • @0:25 you can see Sarrah Jessica Parker....

  • The course is about 35k. This year the winner of the LA Marathon ran 35k in 1h44m. That's enough to beat every horse in this race since 1993. It's definitely possible. The longer the race goes the more it's in favor of people.

  • This is stupid...

  • or maybe because in the description said the horse started fifteen minutes after!

  • They should do the race with humans first, let them finish, then do horses see who finishes in the fastest time. I feel like the horse riders are at a disadvantage because there are points where it seems the horses have to slow down so they don't run over the foot racers; not to mention they start after the foot runners.

  • If my Lusitano wanted the beat these guys..he could in a heartbeat!

  • lOve horses <3

  • um any hosre can beat man the r way faster no one will be able 2 beat a horse on foot.

  • How the fuck did i get here?!

  • They should make it a race that just goes straight through an open field, so the horses can reach their fastest speed, too.

  • horses top speed can go around 30mph-40mph... sooooo.. man would have no chance.

  • @popuipopui exactly! these horses are going at a trot about 3-4mph, and the people are going at a full on sprint. I dont understand this world sometimes...

  • @dragonflyinhaven Horses have to trot the course because there is no way they can do it at full gallop. They would run themselves to exhaustion. Horses don't sweat and can only cool down by panting. If you read 'Born to Run' they actually talk about how humans originally hunted by running down antelope for hours until they died from exhaustion.

  • @captainspirou Not like this course, i meant in a quarter mile run or something, with one human and one horse. I know horses can only cool by panting and that they have to trot, I just dont like the fact that they make horses look slow and make people look better than them, thats all.

  • @dragonflyinhaven The entire point of the race was that a person could beat a horse over a long distance. If you shorten the course almost every animal beats people. A squirrel could beat Usain Bolt. It's pretty obvious that horses could beat people over a short course so there would be no point in that race. However very few people believe that a man could beat a horse over a long course.

  • @captainspirou horses sweat what are you talking about (My horse does not pant either he sweats, same as other horses)

  • @RunLikeAFilly Most animals don't have sweat glands like people so I assumed horses didn't either. Because of your comment I did a little bit of reading and I saw that you are correct. Horses and humans are basically the only ones that cool by sweating. Given that I assume the difference is that people have a higher surface area to volume ratio and cool much faster then larger animals.

  • @popuipopui That's the TOP speed. They can't keep that up for 22 miles. That's like telling Usain Bolt to run a marathon at full sprint. At his speed he could run a mile in 2 minutes however the world record for the mile is closer to 3:40. Yet there is no way Bolt is going to run a mile faster then Sebastian Coe.

  • @popuipopui I saw this on Discovery Channel. From what I understand, it is because humans sweet more efficiently than horses, but its still more about luck.

  • my horses would freak if they saw that man in the horse costume !!!! espeically bently!xxxx

  • That isn't fair. I mean a horse can gallop faster than a man and they can't gallop on the road, that's one of the many advantages the people had.

  • lets be honest

given the title, im sure im not the only one who seen the title of this video and thought something COMPLETELY different would have been playing

  • First of all, the horses started later than the people, and second of all, the horses weren't even going that fast. It looks as though the riders were making the horses go slow.

  • i have ridden this endurance course! x

  • The horses were only there as emergency help on the course.. They werent racing the people.

  • @saem430 they were racing.

  • The horses are only trotting because its on road/hard surface (to make it easier for the runners), if the whole thing was done on grass (or grass with a path next to it for the runners), the horses would've easily won. And the horses couldnt go through the tocky streams as easily, if theyd been streams with fine pebbles at the bottom it'd been fine xD

  • @daimlersweet Wild Horses run about 2 miles or even more EVERY day of there life beat that !!

  • ummmmmm i think the runners set out an hour before the horses !!! i wouldnt want to start the same time as the horses I would get trampled !! xD

  • The race was rigged so the people would win. Not only did they get a FIFTEEN minute head start, but they also had the advantage of running mostly on concrete. Horse can only trot on concrete as a faster pace would damage their legs. Let's have a re-match, but this time on grass and both sets of competitors starting at the SAME time. The horses would win hands down.

  • @NattieChristopher If it was rigged for people to win then how come a man has only won the event twice in 31 years? Plus even if they give a head start they deduct that time from the horses. They just don't race exactly at the same time because the mass start would be crazy.

  • This is a stagger start. Just like a marathon, they have different waves for different classes of runner. The runner had a faster time than the horse.

  • Not surprising the horses lost in this race. But humans were made for long distance travel. Horses, although fast, need rest every other day or they'll die.

  • @agonizethis That´s not true. A horse are made to move long distance to. A horse are much stronger and faster than a human.

  • @daimlersweet Well try running your horse for 5 days straight and see what happens. Cliff Young did it and he's 61 yrs/old.

  • A man could never beat a horse, for the fact that at a steady canter, a horse can reach upto 30MPH, and this was all on concrete, so the horse's legs (Ligaments etc) and feet would be damaged if they were to canter the whole way roun. Plus the horses set off at a different time and place to the people, so of course the person would win :D

  • lol the horses are kinda slow and relaxed >.< they are not really trying ^_^

  • Horses can run to 35mph where the fastest man in the world can only run 22mph. for 100metres. These horses can't go faster than a trot because the concrete damages their feet. Just saying :)

  • ha ha if the horses were going on a real cross country track ie real feild he would pummel the humans ! at a real pace they would run rings round the man

  • If that were my horse, he most definately would not have won!!

  • the horses and people were set off at different places/times no wonder the man won!

  • I've heard it before, a horse wins short distance, a human will win long distance. Usually.

  • @crazyeightbar Wrong, horses are long distance animals. They can travel up to 20 kilometres a day. Every day.

  • @Hippievanobession I'm not saying they always lose or anything, I was just saying something I've heard before and have found it true sometimes...Some terrain is harder for horses and if a race goes for longer then a day you must stop to feed your horse, where a person can eat on the move. Also 20 kilometers is about 12.5 miles right? A person on foot can travel more then 60 miles a day, non stop about 120 miles. And horses can travel much father, then that, the Tevis cup is 100 miles in 24 hours.

  • 0:00-0:05 Horse tramples entire crowd

  • Did he beat the horse? What a man! Wonderful, congratulations! But what a race! I'd like to know the result of this year too, somebody, please.

  • I realised at minute 2:21 that the porpouse of this vid was to show that a man beat a horse in a race... and not that somebody is abusing their horse while racing xDDDD

I like this case much better :)

  • Bring the ethipians and kenyans out there. They'll blow the competition out.

  • Now lope.

  • this is total bollocks, the horses are going at a trot at best. I bet if they were running properly they could do it easy.

  • Back when humans were Neanderthals, how do you think they survived? No fangs, claws, or weapons. They ran their prey to death. Humans are the best long distance runners ever. It's fact.

  • " is a regular marathon runner and covered the distance in two hours 5 minutes and 19 seconds. The first rider to finish was Zoe White, riding Kay Bee Jay, who completed the course in two hours, 7 minutes and 36 seconds."

Being they gave the runners a 15 minute head-start, had they given them 1 2 minutes instead,

the horse would have won, so this ALL hinged on who decided on 15 minutes and why, and why not 10 minutes or 12 instead.

So this race wasnt a real fair one.

  • @FurrtherMoor The finishing times take into account that 15 minutes time difference at the start (which is for safety reasons). All in all its a pretty good contest.

  • @FurrtherMoor A Kenyan would have won.

  • That was unfair as horses can only trot on pavement. i would know as i myself am a horse rider :) so yeah the race was defo unfair if it was all fields then horses would kick some serious ass :)

  • @TwilightsDudey "as horses can only trot on pavement."

Oh? and what did they do for the 15,000 years BEFORE pavement was invented? there was no such thing as pavement as we know it till modern times.

  • There's something funny about that one horse at 0:25 that I can't put my finger on...

  • ummm sorry but their was no beating in the video

  • Personally I think that the runners should have to wear packs with 15% of their body weight in them to even it up. That's pretty much what those horses are carrying.

  • they were flipping trotting shut ur mouths horse haters

  • Have any of you ran 22 miles. Horses may have a lot of energy, but it takes training as well for them to be able to run that long or even trot. They like us are unable to fulfill such a task without that time and training. They sweat and become tired just like we do, especially if there's a rider on it's back. That man won probably because he worked hard for what he wanted. Just be proud of him, I myself am a massive horse lover and I'm amazed that these horses continued to listen.

  • @MARIE1234567890 that comment is spot on Marie, I overtook a horse and rider at 18 miles. The rider said the horse was knackered (not her exact words). I gained 7 minutes on them over the last 4 miles but because the horses and riders start 15 minutes after the runners I actually lost out by 8 minutes. It is a really good challenge for all. (we are not the elite; it took us more than 4 hours)

  • horses have a weight on their back :( not cool stupid fat ass riders but i have to agree that humans are the dominant long distance running species because that's just who we are, we evolved in africa and had to travel extremely long distances as hunters

  • Theses horses are trotting, if they where cantering... no hope lol

  • @katnjas Yeah...but the horses could not canter for 22 miles, up and down Welsh mountains, along roads, through rivers, down scree slopes etc. The year I watched a horse won, think she'd won for the last 3 years or something

  • Respect for the runners and the horses.... not for the riders.

  • @Blackbullet92 it's tough work for the riders too.

  • Also...these riders didn't appear to be pushing their horses very hard. And somebody said that people are better off in distance running because they can sweat? Lol horses can sweat. I dont really care what anyone thinks about the outcome of this race, I'm just saying.

  • @Equestrian08 : That's the skill, fast enough to do well, but if you push too hard they will get exhausted and wont be able to finish. It is a 22 mile race, it's about endurance not speed

  • @Equestrian08 I have run this race 3 times, and believe me the riders are pushing very hard, with some fine horses and riders entering. The terrain is a nightmare for both runners and horses, and it is often very hot. I am an average marathon runner (3:30pb) and overtook and beat many horses. I ran against a friend on horseback who is a good polo player with a quality horse, and beat him confortably. He said it would take a skillful rider to complete the course.

  • If my horse had seen the guy in the horse costume, he would have had a heart attack.

  • @Equestrian08 hehehe same

  • Yeah, I know people are better off in distance running than horses- they can sweat. But it's cheating because the pony has got a fat guy sitting on his back.

  • @MangoTie Huh? Horses sweat, too.

  • lol once my horse reaches the water she'd be like "psh, hello no. see ya" then dump me in there

  • They are only gently trotting. That's not a race. A steady horse on a cross country course, trying, would beat any man.

  • @evorach108 problem is, its on concrete, they cant really go any faster but on a grass course, yeah, a horse would obviously beat everyone!! lol

  • @evorach108 a steady horse on a cross country... sure it could win but what about rocky mountains or thick forest a horse wolud have no chance than so something in betwen sems fair race to me

  • @TheRadme Well no it's not really that are considering the horse were a quarter of an hour later starting and they wre TROTTING the whole way around! and there are very hardy sure footed ponies tha roam mountains so maybe you should try running against a horse :) But do get your point

  • @evorach108 the horses also started off 15 minutes later.

  • @rushmo23 but at the end they also had to finish 15 minutes before the horses in order to win. They only started at different times in order to not get in each other's way, not to give the people a headstart.

This was just a fair race and a fair win for the people: it's only happened twice that the race was not won by the horses. See the wikipedia page for the event: Man versus Horse Marathon

  • @evorach108 i think when they said race they were talking about the people because they seem to be racing corss country just saying :)

  • @evorach108 but it is an endurance course, i know it doesn't seem very far os fast, but i have done it and it is really hard! x :)

  • @evorach108 yea i no rite!

  • @evorach108 I agree. It's just an endurance race.

  • @evorach108 Humans are the best distance runners, the longer the race the better man will do

  • the riders let the runners win. lol but i bet the horses were dying to trample the runners and leave them in their dust!! HA horses are friendly beasts!

  • My horse could beat these people so easily. lol

  • It's not really a fair judgement of the ability of the horse. But rather the fitness that their endurance riders have put them through. Remember the horses have to carry a person. a burden that could be as much as nearly a fifth of their weight. If the humans had the same weight they wouldn't last.

  • they only have the horses at a trot they could beat the humans if they canterd easly

  • thats not fair a horse could slip on the rode they cant go very fast n ther

  • yah a fifteen minute head start and he only beat the horses by two minutes haha......i give hime props though that would be so hard.....and i hate running just 5ks haha

  • man rides horse, horse loses everytime

  • pff a horse could smash those humans if it was cantering or galloping. thats a lot of bs there

  • LOL, you think man could beat a horse in a race, first of all, man had 15min head start, the horse came in 2min behind, so the horse actually won, i don't get why people make all these excuses up, saying man is faster, or has more endurance than horses, what a load of shit that is

  • The horses werent even trying they were practically trotting

  • yeah right

  • horses could have easily won :/ i don't know but it looks like the horses weren't aloud to canter/gallop it all :( it mainly looks like trot , but like i said i'm no expert so please don't think i'm rude or anything :)

  • Do you people know anything about the human body? First of all, why would you compare a long distance race between a horse and a cheetah... Cheetahs are meant for extremley fast speeds for very low time periods. Horses and men are meant for running, and humans are meant to be able to run extremely long distances. Longer than horses. Horse would win in a shorter race, but if the race were very long distances, human that actually is in the shape "wild" human should be in would win.

  • @neoman96 i agree but disagree, horses, are herd animals, with a lot of endurance, they are built to travel long long distances, humans, on the other hand, yes maybe were built for travelling long distances, not anymore, why would you run 20miles to work, when you can just have a machine do all the work for you?

  • @neoman96 ALSO, nearly all of the ground in that vid, was man made, cement or road, being an extremley horsey person, a horses tendons, are not able to withstand cantering, or trotting fast on it for a long time, or even short time, it will cause injury to them, yes their hooves are hardy enough, but the pressure on their bones and tendons, whilst the runners have exspenisive shoes and light wieght legs that allow them to run without pain on itl.

  • @rotansilversplash How would you know? It seemed like a lot of the footage was natural.

  • @neoman96 yes you may know about peoples bodies but be honest, how many of us walk 20 miles a day? wild horses do . put those horses on grass etc and the person dosent stand a chance.

  • @neoman96 sorry no horses are herd animals they are designed to run long distances at a high speed, faster than humans

  • me and my mom just got back from a 25 mile endurance race and completed in 2 hrs 13 mins....

  • @onyxofshammar you are a fucking retard don't come on here and put world record times claiming you have them when the people watching these are more likely to know the record times

  • @onyxofshammar That is a load of BS. Even more BS is that your mom did it.

  • The horses EASILY could have won, the horses trodded most of the parts, and they could goo WAY faster, so shuttup[:

  • The horses EASILY could hvae won, the horses trodded most of the parts, and they could goo WAY faster, so shuttup[:

  • the men won cuz the horses were going like 1 kilomiter per hour

  • @longliverey619 if the humans were really trying, the horses would have been cantering like real x-country and would have beaten the people by at least 30 mins

  • @longliverey619 The horses had to be paced so that they wouldn't get too tired. Also, they were not going 1km/hr. The man who won was going over 11mph.

  • What's wrong with the paint horse @ 1:39? It trots like that the entire time, but it's more noticable at 1:39. It's kinda odd lol. I've never seen a horse trot like that before.

  • @HowlingWhiteRose his breed, hes a paso fino

  • ... What??

  • please. What did the man get a thirty minute head start?! A horse would easily win!

  • @canterforever1 He got a 15 minute head start, but it was for a 22 mile race.

  • I don't see any of the runners running with backpacks on...

  • @ForrestRawr or humans, 15 pound saddles, and a head restraint

  • anyways anyone that rides would know you cant run a horse on concreat for a long time cuz its bad for there feet and legs...

  • @mickeymouseluvaz theyre just trotting and these r endurance horses, apparently u can also choose routes in this race so u dont have to spend too long on the road etc, me and my dod soooo wanna do this together!! :P me riding him running, we would soooo win.... not, my dad's and horses tendons are both in the same state, lol

  • 0:17 GO LITHUANIA GO!!!!

  • wow, i know for a fact that a horse wud beat a guy in a long distance race, they were taught to run longer and a million times faster then people, so i honoustly think a horse wud beat him, im not saying in this video he didnt beat a horse but if it was actually just between a horse and a guy i know 100% the horse wud win :P

  • This isn't a "race" the horses are doing endurance. Endurance is to keep the horse calm. and finish with the best time without the horse having a high heart beat.

  • this wouldnt be possible for a 100 mile race. And yes horses were trotting, but they were trotting mostly on the pavement and the water that the shots were taken of. you dont want to canter through water in fear your horse takes the wrong step, or on pavement in case your horse slips. I am not in favor of the men here, just pointing out where they had to trot. Giving the guys a 15 minute head start, oh please, that is so not winning!

  • the horses could have beaten the man... But the riders suck they trtted the whole way :/

  • @JackAndArora well you aren't going to make your horse canter for the whole 22 miles are you.

  • @candygurlxx ummm no. what i would have done was galloped gotten ahead of the person about 1000 meters then trot and make sure that the person would not pass me.

  • @JackAndArora ya but its not good for the horses feet to gallop on pavement

  • Comment removed

  • ok, no dip the people beat the horses. if the horses were cantering or galloping, they'd beat the people by a long shot! so this isn't fair!

  • wow holy crap looking at the comments more than half of them are gullible idiots who think that a person could ever beat a horse in a race horses have four legs (its more effecient) much stronger muscles and insane endurance people have two legs somewhat strong leg muscles and fairly low endurance compared to a horse

  • the horses were running on the roads..of course they wouldn'tve won.

  • whatever.. horses are cooler.

  • vite co tak at si ty kretení co tam zavodí daj zavod treba ve velky pardubicky tam uhoreli hnedka at skusí skocit 190v 70km rychlosti plus s 65 kg na zadech a po ctyrech jo a jeste neco k tomu velkímu taxisu ¨tam koně potrebujou sotva 4m dlouhy skok tak si to skuste spočítat jasny!!!

  • .... (cont.) and some people are actually claiming that the race was never fair and the horses could never win (while it had been held 25 times and been won by a horse for 24 of those 25 times). Why don't all these horse lovers that don't read, just participate in the race and show everyone that they can do that in a full gallop? And secondly, why don't they read the comments about persistance running and look up some background on humans as a prime long-distance running species?

  • @hwieldr I completely agree with you. Whats up with the guy getting all those thumbs up saying horses are built to run for longer times than humans? We started capturing horses by being able to run for longer times than them.

  • Most comments on here are remarkable for their bias: people really hate seeing horses lose and will use any (non-valid) argument to make their point. Such as there being a head start (which there wasn't), such as the horses not going at a full gallop (while it's just a race and the riders as well as the runners will try to cover 22 miles as fast a possible: if the rider are not going at a full gallop it may be because they won't be able to keep it up for 22 miles, maybe?)....

  • @hwieldr

Some people may believe there was a head start because in the description it says "Fifteen minutes later nearly 50 horses and riders set off in pursuit."

I admit I believed there was a head start in favour of the people too.

  • i like how people think this proves people are faster than humans... he only won because it was through difficult terrain and horses are bigger so its harder for them to manuever through small streams and things. also on pavement its not good for their feet. if they were just on a racetrack though theres no doubt the horse would win

  • COME ON GRANDMPA YOU CAN DO IT!!

  • Most of the time, there are controls for horses, to see they breating, horses can easily be over breathing.. Horses can do a cross curses in 30 min, depends on the controls that are putted out there! ;)
