Good Music, The reason why I'm asking is because I was trying to find the earliest metal song recorded. So far, its Bitter Creek-Plastic Thunder recorded 1967? Anybody else? • I saw these guys in concert the other day, they played this amazing song and others. It was the best show I'd seen. The energy from the crowd, including my own of course, was insane. They outdid Thin Lizzy and Black Label Society with overkill. I fucking loved it.

  • I swear, these guys can make ANYTHING sound metal ...

  • I can't imagine better band than Judas Priest. Evene the worsest song of Judas Priest is better than others band's name/songs. BUT we all know that there is no worse song in their discography : >

  • 27 people have shit for brains......

have to be very stupid not to like a band of these.....

Judas Priest....... is very, very good

  • @BiaJacksonManson 28 actually... And I bet they're all priests.

  • Comment removed

  • @BiaJacksonManson Or maybe some of them just prefer the original version of this song! :) In fact, I myself prefer their own songs instead of these one, but love Joan Baez.

  • @Erin0metallica just like Green Manalishi, it may have been made originally by fleetwood mac, but Priest's cover is amazing.

  • @3Dtacos Who said it wasn't? ;)

  • @BiaJacksonManson no, they just prefer Joan Baez's version

  • pure and heavy!

  • PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST! PRIEST!

  • @MetalWEEGEEE

    cover?

  • @BHUJJUable yeah, It was originally form Joan Baez

  • So tender and sorrowful,Yet leands the feeling(Nostalgic)that we have been here before.....Haunting

  • Simon Phillips freva

  • Simon Phillips, drummer, about 16 years old when he recorded this masterpiece album with Priest. Love it all. He tears through Dissident Aggressor like nobody else ever could, especially at 16 years old. Insane. Slayer's cover/ copy doesn't even come close. Long live Simon Phillips. Long live the mighty Priest!!

  • Priest do the best covers, hands down.

  • why the fuck do people go onto random videos and dislike 26 dislikes the people who disliked must be def this is class

  • They fucking killed this track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GOD ITS MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!

  • Judas was a traitor, why then choose Judas Priest as band name ?

  • @vonMohl From the Bob Dylan's song "the ballad of Franky Lee and Judas Priest" (1967) :)

  • @vonMohl lol its a call name, I dont think they are chirstians

  • the accoustic version they do of this is better

  • yo lloro con este tema!!!!! \m/\m/

  • They killed it.

  • As it happened with Muse's Feeling Good, this shows that turning a relaxing and acoustic song into a energetic and electric one, really works.

  • I do like the way Joan Baez turned this Heavy Metal song into a sappy Folk tune... cool. I also like Fleetwood Mac's cover version of the Judas Priest song The Green Manalishi... I didn't know they were Priest fans...

  • @jn16live

Funny... but you are confusing the kiddies who don't know their music history.

  • a light year isn't a measurement of time silly

  • @ledzeppelin4892000

And this is a song (ie poetic language that uses metaphor) not a scientific lecture, silly.

"A decade ago" doesn't carry the same sense of separation and distance, in time and space, as "a couple of light years." You could also try to be more original in your comments, as this comment has been made and responded to over and over again.

(By the way, the author's father as a well know physicist. I am quite sure Joan Baez knew the definition of a light year.)

  • @nilradem I was joking -_-

  • @ledzeppelin4892000

Sorry - It is just that I have read that comment a few times on versions of this song by people who were serious. I heard the "silly" as sarcastic rather than joking.

  • @nilradem Yes, I quite agree. A couple of light years ago makes them seem seperated with NO hope of being back together.

    Makes it VERY poetic.

  • @ledzeppelin4892000 It can be, indirectly. Imagine the _time_ it would take to travel a light year... as a figure of speech, it works just fine.

  • Judas Priest= Nidht Riders

  • Better than the original ? hahaha , yeah right. great version, but Jaon Baez's version is better.

  • It's just that the moon is full

  • this is way better than when Judas Priest does the acoustic version live. that one isn't bad, but this is just complete Judas Priestification of an awesome tune to begin with. Double awesome.

  • I just listened to Joan Baez's version of the song who I heard was the one who wrote the song. It's amazing how Judas Priest can take an acoustic song like that and turn it into a heavy metal classic, same with Green Manalishi.

  • May ROB sing in his 90's

what a gift 2 us all.

    p.Bonham Mavrakis

  • One line should have read, "I would never say this was better than the original." Sorry for the mistype.

  • Thanks, DeathMetal. Good to see a mature response to a difference of opinion. That'll take you far in life.

Darlin, if Joan Baez is a fan of Judas Priest' revision, as the songwriter, she's certainly entitled. I simply said, in response to someone else, and read my wording CAREFULLY, "I would never this this was BETTER than the original." Neither would, I bet, Baez.

It's fascinating how hostile (not you, Darlin) people are about differences of opinion. That'll take them far in life -- or not.

  • @mcbrion i feel like such a ass wipe T_T. i love Joan Baez and Judas Priest's version. i like this version a little bit more because i'm more of a metal person. but we all have preferences and were all different which is good. I'm sorry about the comment.

  • Zc7578 - We'll agree to disagree. "Making a song your own" does not usually include changing, by omission, half the lyrics.

A sign of greatness, to me, is a song, such as, "The Way We Were," as done by both Streisand and Gladys Knight. Both version are superb: Lyrics? The same.

A cover of it? Certainly. Re-writing the song so the autobiographical quality of it is banished? Not my idea of making it their own." It's like singing Aretha's "Respect" and leaving out the R-E-S-P-E-C-T part.

  • @mcbrion

Whatever you think, Baez is on record as saying she loved their cover. Yes, it could be said to be more a rewrite than a cover, but they kept the hook and did something interesting with her song. I love both versions.

  • I would never say this was "better than the original (Joan Baez). The song is a poignant, melancholy song, and melancholy is rarely uptempo. This is what would be called a "cool" version. But if you know the lyrics, you realize it's about Bob Dylan, who is the "unwashed phenomenon" of the song. It would be hard for me to see how this is superior to Joan Baez' version unless one is uncomfortable with actually feeling melancholy, in which case, this version spares you discomfort by being untempo.

  • @mcbrion Judas Priest took this song made it there own just like the Green Manalishi from Fleetwood Mack. That is the sign of greatness.

  • @mcbrion great now go tell some one who cares.

  • Heard this song first time when i was 6...... Now i'm 14, found this song and jumped saying "holy shit" i remembered it and now its my all time favorite! I knew i could never forget vthe best song ever made especially when its by JUDAS PRIEST

  • I bloody love this song!! saw priest 2 weeks ago and they played this song, felt so privileged to be there, they are truly one of the real metal greats!

  • i love Priest, but the original version of this song by Joan Baez is where it's at.

  • PUTOS AMOS

  • You'd better write the lyrics to the description of the video, reminds me of Japanese Karaoke.Though its one of my fav songs.

  • se oye mejor en Acustico

  • I like their original better than this version.

  • I can jam to this song till' the moon is full!

  • Judas Priest - formed 1969

    Iron Maiden - formed 1975

And if that's not enough, Bruce Dickinson didn't even join Iron Maiden until 1981.

So shut the fuck up complaining Priest ripped Iron Maiden off. Do your research baby metal boys.

  • This song is AWESOME! I love the voice of Rob Halford, is beautifully sharp. Now that's metal, not shit! LIVING GODS OF METAL! lml

  • Even now in their middle years Priest kick ass!!!!!

  • Best version i've ever heard, and i owned the original on LP

  • inspiration is one thing but they have completely different sounds. possibly the only thing they have in common is that they are both british metal bands.

  • Judas Priest = Iron Maiden = Black Sabbath

    Holy Trinity of Heavy Metal.

  • @K0za4 you forget metallica my friend so Judas Priest + iron Maiden + Black Sabbath = metal gods

  • @TheApomania Metallica? maybe until and justice for all but then on fuck Metallica. megadeth and motor head are better.

  • @ metallica is my fav band and The Black album is the best man and as for megadeth i can say its a little more down than metallica

  • @TheApomania the black album? that wasn't even thrash metal. they don't deserve to be in the big four of THRASH. Megadeth also kinda had their moment when they went softer with youthanasia. so i guess it the big 2 now cuz slayer and anthrax are the only one's who haven't switched their genre. megadeth>metallica

  • @TheApomania Metallica is Heavy but not a Heavy metal...

  • @K0za4 Lets make that a square with Motorhead.

  • @K0za4 Wrong its Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead

  • @MaestroInfernus you cannot say that iron maiden are not metal gods! :O

  • @DJrydges They are but but they fall beneath the boot of the trinity, Black Sabbath (Father of Metal, inspires doom, pyscedelic/stoner and black metal),Judas Priest( inspires precurser to speed and Power metal) Motorhead( inspires Thrash)

  • @MaestroInfernus

    LMAO motorhead!!!!

  • @K0za4 I could not agree more.

Koza??? Jel si sa Balkana ??? :D

  • @AceBrate meee tak dělá koza

  • @K0za4 Can't forget megadeth :D their album youthinasia was amazing

  • @Siegevehicle yea but all of their albums before youthinasia were even better i mean listen to rust in peace

  • @K0za4 add also 70's scorpions with Uli Jon roth, songs like Dark Lady, Catch Your Train, The Sails of Charon, He's a Woman, She's a Man were very influential songs for metal bands to come.

  • @K0za4 Dio?

  • @sup4nuk3lt Came much later

  • @boneclub24 Dios first band (Elf) came out in 1967. Priest came 69, Maiden came 75, Sabbath came at 69. Problem?

  • @sup4nuk3lt The actual band Dio was formed in 1982. If you just meant RJD, then I agree. I thought you meant the band.

  • @boneclub24 Whatever. Metal rulez \m/

  • @sup4nuk3lt Fuck yeah \m/

  • WHO CARES !!!!!! JUDAS PRIEST IS AWESOME IN THEIR OWN WAY AND SO IS IRON MAIDEN !!! STOP FUCIKIN' ARGUING ABOUT STUPID THINGS AND ENJOY THIS PEACE OF ART !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zepkid Uh... That's pretty much what I said chuckles.

  • @TioFule

Agreed, you're a fucktard. How can you say either band sound like one another??? And Priest was in fact inspired by Sabbath which means every metal band was by proxy, inspired by Sabbath.

  • the intro reminds me of Anvil's cover of Paint it Black

  • @TheMegamaiden10 i seriously thought I was the only one in the universe who had that thought. it's really the other way around though.

  • what does he mean with "many light years ago" light years are used to measure lenght not time lol

  • @tartaruga42 Well I made a silly response to that awhile back, but I think a more appropriate answer is that instead of saying many miles ago. The idea is that it is very distant, where a physical distance implies a great deal of time as well.

  • Not better than the original, no way.

  • no, this is cool song from the coolest band.

  • 23 people don't know what memories can bring ....

  • @jhdbfhja now 26...

  • LOVE YOU JUDAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the 70s era of Priest. It's very underrated. =)
