  • Nice one Jenson. Nice V8 too 

  • @sonyt50 - bang on! Herman Tilke should never be allowed to design another racetrack as long as he lives. Lovely facilities for Bernie and his billionaire friends, but rubbish circuits! And now we have DRS, KERS and highly degrading tyres to make up for the fact that you can't overtake on the bloody things!

  • Looks like a superb racetrack.... Wish they all could be something like this and Spa and Nordschleife instead of those dump Herman Tilke Arenas.

  • The reason that an older f1 car was used is down to the no testing rule in formula 1, had they, used the new car it can be seen as testing and therefore gaianing an advanatage

  • @djalcazzar They could've run the 2009 or 2010 cars & not breached the testing ban since this was filmed before this season... But lets face it, the 2008 looks like how (in my opinion) an F1 car SHOULD look ;). Would've been awesome if they'd brought the 2005 car out... with the screaming V10

  • @Suprahampton the aero on the 2008 cars is just totally insane and you are right totally is how an f1 caara should look but then as a mclaren fan it was also a car red bull couldnt beat ;)

  • @djalcazzar Well back in 2008 Red Bull were still at the back of the grid... I think they should've run the 2005 V10

  • Thanks for the reply, and for keeping it civil.

My problem was your original comment, it seemed pointless to me.

Your response is clearer - you're surprised they didn't utilize a newer machine. That's fair.

Perhaps the newer machines couldn't as easily be set up for such a bumpy circuit, or parts for the '08 are more readily available?

My point? - Even if McLaren (or any F1 team) had brought a 10 year old F1 car it would have been an awesome spectacle at Bathurst. Celebrate that.

  • Bathurst ??? Absolutely the BEST motor event int the world!! Imagine F1 there. Now that would be something to see. It would almost be as good V8 Supercars, buit then again I'm partial to the V8s.

I love the buzz I get from photographing them. Perhaps one day I'll get the chance to photograph an F1 race. (one can only dream)

Great video clips of Craig and Jensen. Wish I had been there to snap away to my heart's content.

    Thanks for the great video.

  • wats the name of the song tht is playing

  • @fireball13421 haha its not really a song, its a sample track off Garageband

  • would be great to see craig do a season in F1.

  • everyone thinks craig is some kind of superstar for only being a second slower but it was jensons first time on that track ever, craigs been driving their for centurys and he's definatly been in his fair share of open wheelers aswell... anyway it would be fucking awsome if they put the gp there. ..

  • awsome speed

  • Notice how gentle Jensen was on the gearchanges in the V8...

  • Who edited this? The corners are out of sequence

  • I would love to see a F1 race at Bathurst! But knowing Bernie and his latest trend of new races I cant see that happening.

  • Is Craig driving the McLaren with automatic gearbox?

  • That sound...... *sigh* Its beautiful!

  • It looked faster than anything that may have gone up mountain straight, quite amazing. But I get the feeling that many viewers of this are not formula one fans and may not be aware of the incredible performance and engineering of an F1 car...until now. Of coarse it smashed the record. By the way, they have a V8 powerplant too. Lowndes did a good job though.

  • @jemstaa Why would you say that a V8 Supercar fan isn't a F1 fan too??

  • @jemstaa Why would you say that a V8 Supercar fan isn't a F1 fan too?? There is no competition between the supercars and F1 cars... they each meet restrictions for their own independent sport... it was great to see a F1 car on the mountain, it's a great track and it would be great to see the F1 cars compete there too.

  • @rakITNZ No there's no competition, just ignorance.I mean why would you buy a ticket to the Grand Prix to watch the V8s and then walk off when the F1s come on.Don't worry I've been enough times to observe this.I would say there would be a large percentage of V8 fans who know little about F1 cars and or dislike them.I don't dislike V8s,I just find them boring around tracks other than Bathurst & yes they each meet a criteria for their class, pity the V8s are restricted to two supposed car makes.

  • argh the footage keeps cutting out before the dipper

  • Craig Lownde's fastest lap time was only a second slower the Jenson Button's fastest lap time

  • does anyone know what the lap time was of the f1 car???

  • @kelvy212 Jenson Button recorded unofficially the fastest lap of all time in 1 minute 48 seconds, smashing Lowndes' previous record by 18 seconds.

  • how old is that McLaren ... is that the MP4-23 from 2008 ? haha

  • @disengagejam What difference does that make ? Its a world championship winning car.

  • @disengagejam because this new car is slow and crap

  • @zamlatuljko hehe, and RE-DESIGNED!!! they must of shit their selves!

  • @disengagejam you really think that Mclaren would have let them use the latest car lol, its the same car Jamie drove last year at Albert Park

  • @disengagejam i reckon that Jenson was more than happy to drive it, as it is one of the most aerodynamically advanced cars ever! have fun

  • @disengagejam I don't get it - are you suggesting the 2008 car is somehow inferior, and if so to what?

It won the F1 chamionship didn't it? and teh technology is a bit more modern than the pushrod V* and live axle in the Ford.

It is an awesomely quick car, and driver, just be happy Mclaren were prepared to run them at Bathhurst and we get to see just how rapid the F1 cars are in comparison with the V8's - more than 20 sec per lap!

  • @JakobusVdL Ooops I see it was a Holden (not a Ford) and the F1 car is only 18sec quicker...ho hum

  • @JakobusVdL -- what is your problem ... must be a McLaren fanboy ... i'm simply stating that its 3 years old, and surprised why they didn't utilize a newer machine -- i'm not disputing the fact that it did win the championship (the WDC , not the WCC) .... relax and take a deep breath

  • @disengagejam and it sounds better than this year's cars!! lol

  • That thing is seriously fast up Mountain straight!!

  • Amazing. Thanks for posting!!

  • I would like to swap places with Corinna

  • Move the Grand Prix to Bathurst

  • @ph0n1k that would be EPIC. although theres nothing wrong with Melbourne, it would be amazing to see F1 flying round there.

  • @ph0n1k i agree

  • Wow, that was pretty cool to see an F1 car around Bathurst!
