When I think of this song, I don't think of the real video. I think of this performance. Every time I hear this song, I think of this set revolving around (or the singer revolving actually). Sigh. I miss 1996. I was only 11, but it was a good year.
@jcsavestheday00 I feel the exact same way. It's this slightly slower version; this performance; this set; this lighting... that I remember when I hear this song. Yes, 1996 was a good year. (also 11 that year)
This band was quite underrated. I saw them twice in concert and they were amazing! They put a lot of thought into the details and nuances of their songs, especially the vocals. I was feeling bored with music at the time and they revived me. Their album Pop Smear is excellent!
Thanks for posting this video! I remember watching this on MTV back in December of 1997 and loved this particular performance. I only saw it one time and never saw it again. Over the years I tried to find it on the internet, but never did. I completely forgot about it for years until this morning when my alarm clock went off to this song and I started thinking of this performance from like 13 years ago. Fired up YouTube and here we are. Thanks again.
These guys used to come down to a bar in Toledo, Ohio when I was in college. Back in 94 or 95, before they had this wonderful hit. They always sounded great.
Villains is filled with great songs and rocks hard in places. All the songwriting is great. If you haven't heard the entire album, you're missing something special.
This is one of the songs that inspired me to be in a band and write my own music. Such a great song. Brings back so many memories of being an awdward kid in High School and trying to fit in.
I remember this Jenny McCarthy like it was yesterday. Actually, searching for this live video is what got me started doing the youtube thing a few years ago. Finding this video lead me to Brian Vander Ark's solo music, which is fantastic. Since then. Brian has performed at our house and we listen to his music on a regular basis. Thanks so much for posting.
This song brings back so many memories..thanks for posting...by the way, Verve Pipe never got the reconigition they deserved..They have ALOT of great songs!
The singer uses fingerstyle for a part that one would assume to be picked. I play it the same way, only because I have a stronger background in fingerstyle. Its a nice choice, though it is atypical.
No one cares dude, we're not here to see you talk about your background in finger style. *start sarcasm* Oh man I wish there was a comment search feature on youtube *end sarcasm*
+ for you buddy. Tired of these diary type comments on here. This isn't your personal fucking diary. No one cares about your tired bullshit. We have our own lives to think about.
I was at Western Michigan University in K'zoo when these guys were just starting out, and remember seeing them in the basement of a Frat house party. The American Dream come true ...
Omygosh! I remember watching this episode when I was a Freshman myself. I remember the that episode had the skit about her infatuation with the mail carrier, that was funny. I loved this band. It was an awesome song for that summer.
for some reason he has an amazing voice and i cant take my concentration off of it...its like hypnotizing. especially when he gets near the end....amazing
just because he says stopped a baby's breath doesnt mean he is talking about abortion....and even if it is...there is one line about abortion...this song is all about suicide in my opinion
I have been to many Brian Vander Ark solo shows and have listened to him play this song many times live. The song IS about a girlfriend who had an abortion in his life. He stated that she did not commit suicide though in real life, he just added that to make the song more tragic.
I saw these guys Many times at Western MI. Univ. back in the day. I saw them when they were separate bands ( Johnny with an I, and Water for the pool ). My fraternity actually hired them for a big party ( was very successful ). Everyone loved these guys especially the girls. They loved this song.
Great times back then. I miss it.
All the best to the band members, they made my college years most memorable.
Yep , its the real deal , noone can do it like the original, Im just getting into these guys. Also ive just learned i love the song MR BRIGHTSIDE , by THE KILLERS fun to play
This song is amazing, i just find it amusing that people think this song is just about abortion. there is alot more in there than the abortion, its hard to see at first, but look at the song in your mind, there is so much more to it than that, abortion, teenage love, suicide, everything. But I see your point, its hard for one to imagine that another would smile looking down at memmories like these, but he maybe remembering the good times along with the bad.
with all due respect this song is not just about abortion. there is alot more in there than the abortion, its hard to see at first, but look at the song in your mind, there is so much more to it than that, abortion, teenage love, suicide, everything. This was the most popular -and overplayed- song from my college years. Given the plot of the song, it baffled me then, and it baffles me now. (I love, love, love how this video opens with them saying, "We wanted to write the most deeply upsetting song we could think of.")
wow it's so weird, whenever I hear this song I always thought about a performance of it i saw of it about ten ears ago where the guy was wearing a blue shirt, i can't believe it's actually on youtube ten years later!
My regret is that there isn't more of these guys on here. Villans was a monster as albums go. Oh, and modern radio is poop. There is another regret for you.
