  • jenny mccarthy show lol

  • Do they have any other hits?

  • I feel so old - I remember watching this on TV :x

  • A.J. is A Little BITCH!!! Brian is Cool...

  • this song reminds me of being 13 or 14 years old in Manteca California

  • Brian Looks so YOUNG! check out the cover of his new Solo Album MAGAZINE - he has really grown up over the years!

    New album is awesome btw.

  • nice^^

  • When I think of this song, I don't think of the real video. I think of this performance. Every time I hear this song, I think of this set revolving around (or the singer revolving actually). Sigh. I miss 1996. I was only 11, but it was a good year.

  • @jcsavestheday00 I feel the exact same way. It's this slightly slower version; this performance; this set; this lighting... that I remember when I hear this song. Yes, 1996 was a good year. (also 11 that year)

  • i didn't know trey parker was the lead singer of a rock band before he created south park..

  • 0:39 Right side, my music teacher.

Mr. Corella, the best music teacher ever.

  • It cracks me up how Brian won't look at Jenny:)

  • This band was quite underrated. I saw them twice in concert and they were amazing! They put a lot of thought into the details and nuances of their songs, especially the vocals. I was feeling bored with music at the time and they revived me. Their album Pop Smear is excellent!

  • For the life of me !!

  • Damn.. Fucking Damn.. <333

  • I actually remember sitting on the edge of my bed as a very young teen watching this on the telly in slack-jawed awe.

  • 5 gays dislike the song...

  • fuck you sony!!!

you took the fun out of youtube!!!

  • When Villains came out I was a student at Western Michigan U. This song and entire CD remind of the great times I had in Kalamazoo!

  • Great song!

  • Lead singer sounds exactly the way he does on the album. That is rare. Much respect to this band.

  • Thanks for posting this video! I remember watching this on MTV back in December of 1997 and loved this particular performance. I only saw it one time and never saw it again. Over the years I tried to find it on the internet, but never did. I completely forgot about it for years until this morning when my alarm clock went off to this song and I started thinking of this performance from like 13 years ago. Fired up YouTube and here we are. Thanks again.

  • i wish the jenny mcCarthy show was still on

  • could someone upload the original video? thanks

  • oh hey she went to my high school.

  • Find.....

  • I was a Western Michigan Freshmen and I want his Electric Blue Gibson Les Paul Guitar!!! Hard to fined......

  • remember the song ??? what were you thinking the first time you heard it

  • I hear a huge Afghan Whigs influence in this song. I could hear Greg Dulli covering this song.

  • These guys used to come down to a bar in Toledo, Ohio when I was in college. Back in 94 or 95, before they had this wonderful hit. They always sounded great.

  • @jjlenny it should have been good times huh

  • love this song!

  • The Jenny McCarthy show on MTV actually had some good musical performances, the rest of the show was dumb as hell.

    Great song!

  • @LosAngelesWriter

    Are you madd?

That Show had better skits then Saturday night Live could ever hope to have!

  • Villains is filled with great songs and rocks hard in places. All the songwriting is great. If you haven't heard the entire album, you're missing something special.

  • This might be the best song i have ever heard. At least in the top 5 or 10. And I was around in the 60's.

  • Great song

  • I remember having recording this on VHS tape live. Times have changed haven't they?

  • performed great for being live they are truely in sync

  • @smshpumkins615 Yeah it's perfect !

  • Is it just me or does the lead singer seems kinda nervous/geeky when talking about the song. He's looking down and laughs kinda weirdly, lol.

  • awesome awesome track

  • This is one of the songs that inspired me to be in a band and write my own music. Such a great song. Brings back so many memories of being an awdward kid in High School and trying to fit in.

  • @bware16 :)

  • @bware16 Reminds me of a being a rebel in a Catholic Grade School in Kindergarden!

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • love this song. loved this show

  • the lyrics are great

  • Thats cool, Me and Aj the guitarist are good friends

  • Wow...I forgot about this show.

  • such an amazing performance!

  • I remember this Jenny McCarthy like it was yesterday. Actually, searching for this live video is what got me started doing the youtube thing a few years ago. Finding this video lead me to Brian Vander Ark's solo music, which is fantastic. Since then. Brian has performed at our house and we listen to his music on a regular basis. Thanks so much for posting.

  • This song brings back so many memories..thanks for posting...by the way, Verve Pipe never got the reconigition they deserved..They have ALOT of great songs!

  • one of the greatest songs ever written

  • great singer

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • Do you have the show where Cake sang "I Will Survive"?

  • i remember this...it was one of their best live performances to me...haha brings me back

  • The singer uses fingerstyle for a part that one would assume to be picked. I play it the same way, only because I have a stronger background in fingerstyle. Its a nice choice, though it is atypical.

  • what does his comment have to do with you being idiot? no one cares rubicant

  • What does your comment have to do with your being an idiot?

  • + for you buddy. Tired of these diary type comments on here. This isn't your personal fucking diary. No one cares about your tired bullshit. We have our own lives to think about.

  • don't you mean (What does your comment have to do with you being an idiot?)

  • Actually very good - They are young here. I think BVA's solo career is better though. Still good!

  • Yay I live in Kalamazoo and know exactly what chicken shack they are talking about. I love these guys. They look sooo young!!

  • Great video! I've been looking for a live version of this for a while.

  • This song was everywhere when I was a high school freshman. Memories. Man, I miss those days. I miss the 90's. :D

  • you're not the only one! I miss the 90's SO much.

  • same here, but there are some good things from the 2000's, like the vertical ketchup dispenser. works great with mustard as well.

  • Word. And Craigslist escort services.

  • I was at Western Michigan University in K'zoo when these guys were just starting out, and remember seeing them in the basement of a Frat house party. The American Dream come true ...

  • Omygosh! I remember watching this episode when I was a Freshman myself. I remember the that episode had the skit about her infatuation with the mail carrier, that was funny. I loved this band. It was an awesome song for that summer.

  • the piano player in this band is ma music teacher currentlyyy rite now in hs.

    mr corella.

    dude hes fuckin beast.

i swear 2 god no joke

  • Who's your English teacher?

  • haha

  • lol for sure

  • @mike556x45 true that, true that hahahaha

  • Hey,

Brian and his wife Lux are playing at the Saugatuck Music Center in Saugatuck Mich tonight 8-4-08 for $15.

    Catch It!

  • god damn the are awsome live. i dont know how old i was when i first herd this song, but i found it again on sirus satalite. awsome song

  • Well you were 4 when it came out, so start from there.

  • damn, they nailed that live

  • totally, it's by far my favorite performance of this song. I was a junior in high school when it came out lol

  • wow, his voice sounds exactly the same live. you don't see that much..

  • Love these guys

  • Does anyone have Cake's "I Will Survive" from the Jenny McCarthy Show? One of the best videos ever!

  • Is that Beavis or Butthead on bass guitar?

  • ...now that's funny!

  • Thanks for posting -- LOVE IT!

  • for some reason he has an amazing voice and i cant take my concentration off of it...its like hypnotizing. especially when he gets near the end....amazing

  • the guitars have a Great Sound...

Brian today sounds too much like Cat Stevens.

  • just because he says stopped a baby's breath doesnt mean he is talking about abortion....and even if it is...there is one line about abortion...this song is all about suicide in my opinion

  • I have been to many Brian Vander Ark solo shows and have listened to him play this song many times live. The song IS about a girlfriend who had an abortion in his life. He stated that she did not commit suicide though in real life, he just added that to make the song more tragic.

  • lol what's with the junk at the end?...

  • What junk at the end?

  • From 5:13 and on...

  • I saw these guys Many times at Western MI. Univ. back in the day. I saw them when they were separate bands ( Johnny with an I, and Water for the pool ). My fraternity actually hired them for a big party ( was very successful ). Everyone loved these guys especially the girls. They loved this song.

Great times back then. I miss it.

All the best to the band members, they made my college years most memorable.

  • I remember watching this particular show and this performance. I was such a stoner. lol! I miss my teens.

    I love this song!

  • I was watching the Jenny McCarthy show on MTV whe this was originally aired many, many years ago!!!! I just knew it was destined to be a hit!!

  • Same here!...It's hard to believe how long ago this was.

  • Yep , its the real deal , noone can do it like the original, Im just getting into these guys. Also ive just learned i love the song MR BRIGHTSIDE , by THE KILLERS fun to play

  • I had this video in VHS and I lost it...

  • This song is amazing, i just find it amusing that people think this song is just about abortion. there is alot more in there than the abortion, its hard to see at first, but look at the song in your mind, there is so much more to it than that, abortion, teenage love, suicide, everything. But I see your point, its hard for one to imagine that another would smile looking down at memmories like these, but he maybe remembering the good times along with the bad.

  • Wow, one of the best live performances i've ever seen anyone do.

sounds just like the studio version.

  • I honestly thought this was a Saturday Night Live skit and the lead singer was Will Forte in a blonde wig...

  • stupid comment!!

  • you're right, it was...

on 2nd thought, he looks much more like Trey Parker of South Park...

  • this is the version of the video that I remember. They played this as the vid for a ont time on mtv.

  • very good live

  • wow!!!

    very great song!

  • If it sucks so much, why are you searching for it on youtube?

  • Amen bro. Greatest song of all time.

  • That blonde hair guitarist is the most unhappy sob ive ever seen. Smile dammit.

  • But the song's is about abortion. Wouldn't it be a little creepy if he smiled while singing about that?

  • with all due respect this song is not just about abortion. there is alot more in there than the abortion, its hard to see at first, but look at the song in your mind, there is so much more to it than that, abortion, teenage love, suicide, everything. But I see your point, its hard for one to imagine that another would smile looking down at memmories like these, but he maybe remembering the good times along with the bad.

  • Brian and Jenny were gonna do it!HA HA!

  • Man I think this is one of my alltime favorite songs.I really hope heaven or paradise has music like this.I love Brian Vander Ark voice so much,it's perfect!

  • Word Up !! He got booted off the high school band or something cause he couldn't sing, Stoops Great song.

  • Your kidding!I guess they didn't have any good music to sing, like alternative or whatever this is classified as.

  • anybody else notice the singer looks just like drake from drake and josh?

  • he doesn't look anything like that anymore. Now he's got gray hair and a dark brown/gray beard

  • how can you not, radio played it every ten minutes

  • great song!!!!!

  • Mr.corella hehe he's my music teacher i see him every 2 days nice to see him when he was young.

  • This was the most popular -and overplayed- song from my college years. Given the plot of the song, it baffled me then, and it baffles me now. (I love, love, love how this video opens with them saying, "We wanted to write the most deeply upsetting song we could think of.")

  • cool :-)

  • wow it's so weird, whenever I hear this song I always thought about a performance of it i saw of it about ten ears ago where the guy was wearing a blue shirt, i can't believe it's actually on youtube ten years later!

  • My regret is that there isn't more of these guys on here. Villans was a monster as albums go. Oh, and modern radio is poop. There is another regret for you.

  • These guys are all still considered local heroes in the Kalamazoo and Lansing areas of Michigan. Which is, of course, where they're from.

  • gets better each time i hear it.

  • Thanx for puttin this up. I remember seein this live on MTv when it first aired. Awesome!

  • One of the greatest songs ever written !!
