  • All you need is to paint numbers on your street and there ya go! Your own areodrome!

  • looks like a WW corvair. who built your exhaust manifold?

  • what engine do you have in it?

  • awsome job man... Ive never cared about what neighbors think, with their annoying weedwhackers and lawnmowers. LOL

  • That's so cool! Bet it looks excellent all painted up with the wings bolted on - great job man.

  • how long did this take to finish?

  • I am sure the neighbours love you, lol. Great job

  • wow this camera man is nuts .. very dangerous walking in front of a tied up craft with a fast moving prop .. if any problems with the safety line and that thing let loose .. wham bam thank you mam .. ouch

  • Brakes were on and it was tied to a pickup truck. This is experimental aviation. If you want absolute safety get a computer and play with Microsoft Flight Simulator in your living room. Actually the ZOOM on the camera made it look scary. Cameraman was further away than it looked. I have 150 flying hours on the airplane now. Very much worth the 5-year building effort.

  • @cooknwithgas Remember your chain of events,,, safty is applied no given! I think the better answer you could have given was, "Thanks for the safty tips"! I should have thought this over. Your welcome, Have a safe flight. AOPA member!

  • @cooknwithgas - thats awsome .. yeah maybe he is standing farther away than it looks on camera .. zooms now days can trick you. hows she fly? and what model is this ? canopy looks like a Zepher .. what kinda specs you at with this one? stall .. top speed ect. nice job ! :)

  • @CraigBMM He def got some big balls lol or just dumb.

  • I like how your neighbor bails! when you fire it up in your driveway. yah!

  • why corvair, wouldnt it be more reliable to get a toyota

  • Great question, the main reasons people choose a Chevy Corvair engine is that they are air cooled, relatively simple design, parts are readily available, and the power to weight ratio is good. Perfect for small aircraft that need a 100-120hp engine.

  • Is this the 601 Zodiac? The Corvair engine is becomming ever popular in the Zodiac range of kits! And from what I have been told, quite a good choice.

  • Don't these planes get REAL hot inside under that glass bubble? Seriously...isn't it a problem?

  • most experimental Aircraft do, Glasair's aren't too comfortable temperature wise... but when you get passed a couple thousand feet you dont notice it as it's fkn cold up there lol.

  • More Sunburnt than anything

  • u should really rly get some wings for that thing.

  • He did say it was experimental.

But I agree, he should experiment with wings attached!

  • He's a REAL handyman.........let's see

    Paint the house....check

    Clean the gutters....check

    Build an airplane....check

    (AND)

The word "Experimental" is usually scary enough in plane vids.... but even MORESO when its in the guys driveway.

  • is that a VW beetle engine conversion for a homebuild??, I was told lots of people use them, instead of Lycoming, its a cheeper option ,??

  • It is a Chevrolet Corvair engine.

  • haha you can hear somebody else cranking up a car in the background...and then this.

    they got owned.

  • How do you like that corvair conversion ?

  • yeah, good luck flyin' it. NO WINGS.

(Work in progress! I know! I just like cracking jokes. No offense! Nice job!)

  • Really bad example of risk management, pointed toward people, child in cockpit... Jeez

  • dude its not like its going to take off without wings.

  • Your neighbors love you, I'm sure.

  • The neighbors must have been thrilled, specially when you brought up the RPMs.

  • wow penchy.. dont be jealous. anyways great video man congratulations

  • Thanks for your opinion penchy21 ... now shut the hell up, ya jackass.

Nice Zodiac cooknwithgas, engine sounds great ... happy flyin.

  • i think penchy21 is jealous it's not *him* with a plane!

  • I don't think i could ever do that on my own, i would have to have an expert help me build those planes

  • just google some instructions :D

  • rich people...

  • Im sure that propwash did the paint good on that Dodge pickup behind the aircraft.

  • Clean driveway - no problem. Still driving the old Dodge looking good as new.

  • camrea man has some nervs standing right there

  • That is what ZOOM is for. It made me nervous after looking at it also, but she was quite far from the prop.

  • Your neighbors must have called you crazy when they heard you were building a plane.

I think you have permission to laugh at them now.

  • They did. I do. Thanks!

  • I bet your neighbors *really* appreciated that. After the run, did you climb out and roll the thing back into the garage before the cops came?

  • Yes.

  • Interesting video, would loved to have seen inside the cockpit and the console.

  • PMSL at Welby ..... that made me laugh so much lol great comment dude..

  • i can imagine the neighbors are thrilled to have a aircraft hanger and test facility on their street. They must love the breezes it produces.

  • is that a corvair engine or continental or lycoming engine ?

  • cool video, couldn't help but notice the houses in the back, really nice neighborhood where is that?

  • Regular houses, anywhere, or where do you live, Brazil?

  • no Europe! But when i went to new york on a bussiness trip i was like, WHAT A DUMP! also south carolina is a dump foor poor people!

  • nice sound.

  • Exp aircraft scare the hell out of me

pilot fly, mechanics assemble, you mix the 2, bad mojo

  • last time I checked, Burt Rutan was an experimental aircraft guy and pilot. He just built the first civilian spacecraft. Experimentals are just as important if not more important than the certified industry.

  • I take it, you have no hans on skill.... Built my own aircraft, it flew great untill it slipped of the trailer while making a 700 mile move

  • man that realy sucks was it an rv or what

  • Standard 16 footer, but the resulting tumbling from meeting the pavement at 70MPH wrecked it to bits. The straps vibrated untill the broke and off it rolled. I was trailing the vehicle radioing telling him to stop, but it rolled off soquick, he didn't even have time to slow much

  • You will never convince me that this is the VERY FRIST TIME this engine has ever been started... Never...

  • Ya ain't gettin' far without ye ol' wings though buddy.

    :P

    Sounds nice.

  • Very nice... sounds great.... as long as it stays on the ground....

  • A little friendly advice: Keep a sharp eye on those push rod tube O-rings!

  • Are you in the dark ages? Replaced mine over 20 years ago with viton, still leak free.

  • Excellent! ( Yes, I am in the dark ages!!: My experience is with a 1964 Corvair Spyder convertible which I owned from 1968 to 1972. At that time, I gave it to my brother who rebuilt the engine and drove it 'till 1977. Failure of the stock O-rings was common then. )

  • very nice, i hope to accomplish that one of these days, i bet the neighbors just loved that!

  • Wow, thats pretty cool

  • Very nice!

  • Awesome! Congratulations.

  • sound very good
