  • Great shanty. Check out the Irish Descendants version, they do it justice.

  • I wish the sound matched the video, no disrespect.

  • all hail stan a true canadian hero there were reports on that plane that he refused treatment when he escaped and went in to resque more people

does he have one of the orders of canda

  • Has the Canadian Government ever honor him. If not they should.

  • I hate to be a killjoy, and I love Stan and his music, but there has never been any independent confirmation of this - not from any (if any) survivors, rescuers or any other source. The citation in Wikipedia leads to a story only that he died of smoke inhalation.

  • I used to hear this as a little kid as a regular part of the WFMT show "The midnight special", along with the Leadbelly version of "the midnight special" and an amazing counter-tenor singing "you've got to cross that lonesome valley" All of those are still my favorites. Thanks SO MUCH caleb for posting this beautiful, heartfelt piece!

  • Its such a pity to have lost one of Canada's greatest folk musicians so young. Here's to you Stan.

  • we sang this all the time out west ... drove the mainlanders fucking nuts so we told them fly to yer jesus before we pucked their teeth down their throats and made them look like cry babies lol it was awesome cause the bar made most of it's money when this song came on

  • Stan Rogers is a mainlander...

  • Always known this song from The Corries album

of the same name. But this is brilliant

  • Canadia - and am proud of that mam..

  • While unloading drill ppe on a rig full of Newfoundlanders I started siging this as a lark, well next thing you know there was 8 of us singing on the drill rig.. the company man said he aint never seen anything like it but loved it.. accapella , sounded pretty good too

  • God knows how many times Stan sang this to me at the LBR....fond memories, of one hell of a singer.....miss you Stan!

  • The best song in the history of music.

  • Why can't the other versions of this song use this harmony? It's much nicer, IMHO.

  • Awesome. Now that's a song.

  • Stan the Man. Happy July 1st, Canada Day!!

The best country on earth and we know it.

  • It's a Canadian song by a Canadian. DEAL WITH IT!

  • This is Nova Scotia's unofficial anthem!

  • The greatist (well, maybe in the top five, because we have had several) Canadian folk singer.

But, today (June 2, 2008) is the 25th anniversary of his untimely death. Oh... what he may have accomplished!

  • sing this you limey bastards!!!

  • Don't be so hard on UbiDuboi... He was paraphrasing what Stan said to his folky buds in Friends of Fiddler's Green. From the Stan site: "When Stan first sang 'Barrett's Privateers' for these guys, he reportedly said "suck on this, you limey bastards!".

  • First heard this song in Newfoundland and I'm from the UK, LOVED it ever since.

  • heard this covered by weddings parties anything (Australian band) and The Men They Couldn't Hang (English) Its great to finally hear the original. The wpa version is definately worth a listen!!!

  • stan the man, east coast beuty right there

  • Stan was actually from Ontario originally, but spent most of his recording career in Halifax

  • What a great man.

  • Oh to hear this for real! I love it!!!

  • stan rogers singing with ryans fancy

  • Outstanding!!! Who cares about squinting when you can see and hear the MAN and his mates belt out this tune like they actually were part of Barret's crew!!!

  • ********** :)

  • Magic Stuff! This man understands the REAL world. Thanks Canada for giving bith to him...from an Aussie.

  • this should be sung in every bar in every town every saturday night.

  • In Halifax it is. At every party.

    Trust me.

  • I think any given bar in Nova scotia any night LOL

  • I introduced this at a bar one night in my town along with The Glenworple Highlanders. Now I wish I hadn't, I've heard it enough being sung by drunks. Stan, ok, I can listen to him anytime, a bunch of drunken idiots, no. *sigh*

  • stan rogers is a p i m p! my dad spent months in the arctic when i was a kid and all he listened to was stan rogers, we are not canadian but i still admire the shit out of him! he better get on the canadian hall of fame cause he fuckin deserves it!

  • Dermot, Dennis, and Fergus from Ryan's Fancy are definitely in this video. Stan was the best and always will be. Wish he were still around!!!

  • this is amazing..please hit Facebook and join the "Stan ROgers Needs a Star on teh Canadian Walk of fame" group

  • Indeed.

  • Wish I was at this kitchen party!!!!Perhaps the two finest traditional bands of all time....Ryan's Fancy and Stan Rogers!...

  • That kitchen party features Friends of Fiddler's Green, not Ryan's Fancy

    Nathan Rogers

  • i heart stan rogers! thanks 4 posting

  • Ryan's Fancy And Stan Rogers.......doesn't get any better!!

  • Would you happen to have any of him doing "Dark eyed Molly"?????or "Lies..all lies"??? Stan was the best!!!RIP.

  • Wild ...i own this documentary..shitty VHS just like this..who are you mystery poster person....stan rogers is the ultimate canadian hero

  • Stan used to play a little place in NH called "the Folkway" where I MC'd for a short time in the early 80's. I shared some frustration with others here looking for "Stan" not "Stan covers", fine though many may be...so I lifted this from his site, hoping a link to the "buy-it" page would give license so to speak.

  • I'd love to rent and watch the documentary. What is it like?

(I hate to pay $24, just to watch it once.)

  • just do a search for "One Warm Line" on Google's video section...it's there somewhere...45 minutes of pure gold!

  • Thank you Thankyou!!

  • What a song...what a man...what a singer!! Those Ryan's Fancy guys show up everywhere don't they..!!?!? Rise again Stan!
