  • hey,im 5'8' i was 178 in november of 2009 and now im 157 i still have fat, cant see my abs, some fat on the sides, idk what to do... my workout was 60-65 minutes on elliptical then about 10-15 of ab workout and 20 mins on everything else, now its 1 or 2 miles of running (takes about 20-25 mins) about an hour wokrkout 1 DAY its Biceps, Shoulders, Legs and Back. 2nd Day its Chest, Triceps and Back. My diet is good, i eat ebout 1500 cal. I dont take protein supplements tho. What would u reccomend?

  • @botanast Good Lord. Ok first, there's a saying in the lifting world: you don't run to get in shape; you get in shape to run. Your first day has legs (massive muscles) and back (big muscles) on the same day. While it's not unheard of, for someone at your physique and experience it's probably not a good idea. Are those the only 2 workouts you do each week? Do you rotate them back to back? M-1, Tu-2, W-off, Th-1, F-2? Do you only work out twice a week? And I hope you know this already, but...

  • @botanast ...your previous workout sucks. 5 minutes longer on "everything else" as you do on abs?? 3x as much time on the elliptical as you spend lifting? Ouch. Not to mention that since you passed the hour mark (the usual time when everything just "shuts down" when you're lifting/exercising, unless you incorporate peri-workout nutrition, and even then it just goes up to about an hour and a half) while you were still running, which means your lifts probably felt like complete shit. Geez man.

  • @botanast So my first recommendation before you tell me your current workout plan is this: take protein. There's very limited evidence that high protein equals kidney failure, and even those studies say to just take enough water to avoid this issue, so there's almost no risk unless you have a water phobia. Plus post-workout protein is a MUST. Within 30 minutes, at LEAST 20g of protein. That's usually one scoop of protein. I take 40g now, I used to take 60g. Get back to me with that workout info!

  • Good progress! I'm just curious what are your maxes in bench, squat, dead lift and military press?

  • @seabeedaddy26 At the time, I think 315, 405, 415, and I don't know, respectively. Now (4 or 5 weeks later) I can bench 315 for 3, deadlift 405 for 2, and I haven't max squatted recently, so I can't tell that, and military press was 225 for 1.

  • @seabeedaddy26 Did max squat a couple weeks ago, got 405 for an easy 2, in case you're still wondering.

  • isnt that the atkins diet high fat n protein

  • I'm sure there's more than one diet that's high in fat and protein, but I don't know the atkins diet's plan, so I can't say if it's the same/similar. I do know that people discredit it because the man who created it died an early death, and rumor was it was because of his diet. Fact is, he slipped on ice, hit his head, and died from complications (in surgery, I think). I think he also went into a coma after hitting his head, but I'm not certain on that part.
