We're having all kinds of trouble with the Flip, but it's mostly my fault, It's been dropped more than once.. But, now it won't turn on unless you plug it into a computer and won't turn off until you take the batteries out. So, I've resorted to bringing my laptop with me, out and about. ( :
we had a fake tree for all but one year as I was growing up. My thoughts on fake trees now - less maintenance, not necessary to buy every year, and fake fiber optic trees don't need to be decorated. I don't mean to sound like the voice of doom, but seriously, a small fake tree is a good thing to have because, in these times, u just don't know what your live is going to be like a year from now.

I grew up in WVa and Va with real trees, and I remember as a kid going out and cutting our own, as part of the Christmas ritual. That all ended when I moved to Fla where the only trees we grow are plastic.
I had a Flip Mino a couple of years ago. The internal non-replaceable battery died in less than a year. They DID cover it under warranty, but my take on them is that they're a "casual" part time pocket cam, and they won't hold up to serious full time use. I totally love my Canon.

I think it always comes around to "you get what you pay for," Mike. I've had a deep respect for Canon since the days of the AE-1. Their optics are on a par with Nikon, among the best in the world, and their quality is there, too. My AE-1 is 30 years old, and it's never malfunctioned. My second Canon is the HG-21 camcorder I bought a year and a half ago, and I'm in awe of it every time I pick it up. It's amazing.
When my family could afford it we always had a real tree, but i remember when we were younger we were so poor we used a toy tree, the willow tree from Pocahontas XD we got a few gifts that year, but it was pretty epic using a toy tree for the tree, we put up the lights and christmas stuff from years past around were the presents were then just put the tree on the presents :D it was pretty nice :P

I think I have the cracked usb thing too but not as bad as yours. I cracked my lens this summer while caving and got a replacement lens this week for $15.

My husband and I went shopping for a Flip camera about 6 months ago and the salesperson talked us into a Nikon cool pix and we love it. It does videos in HD and have more memory on it then the Flip. We did the real tree thing for awhile but since it is just my husband and myself we got a nice fake tree on clearance for $10.00 last year so it is fake.
@DearestBecky And the good thing is the CoolPix takes pictures too! We may do that and get a picture camera that does both. Yea if it's just you two a fake would be much easier to deal with.

I've always had a fake tree. I kept telling my parents that we need to get a real one sometime, and they wanted to, but the only way they would, would be if they got the ball of roots to so they can plant it after Christmas. Some of those saying apply to Indiana too.
My first Flip stopped charging. It was the Flip Mino, it was like the wires that connect to the usb shorted out. My new one which is the same model as yours I haven't really had any issues. Although I do have to take the battery pack out for my computer to read it. My parents have always put up a fake tree, but I think once I have kiddos I want to go cut my own.
@TYBOZE I just had a new problem in that when I charge the Flip it now has a message on the screen that it's too hot to keep charging. WHAT??? Fakes are much cheaper and easier but nothing beats a real tree, picking it out, cutting it down.
Looks like the spring to the USB button/slider either came undone or shot out of it. You might be able to fix that crack with a few dabs of crazy glue. Just make sure you keep the USB arm out until it dries lol. The only problem I have with mine is, for some reason all of a sudden, my video editors won't play the Flip AVI files. Always did before no problem. I had to download a video converter and convert the Flip files into MPEG format so I could edit them. Grrr! I think it's because I have the
@greggfla really old original Flip cam. I noticed this problem started after I did a Windows Update. I don't think the new update supports Flip Cams old software. I went to the Flip site and did an up date for my cam but it still don't work. ~ The Christmas tree looks beautiful! Ever since I can remember we had real trees! @greggfla Yea I figured it was the spring but I looked to take it apart and no screws. So I don't want to start ripping apart and then break it for good. It seems the best format to use is mp4 for editing. I have problems pulling stuff from our camcorder. Why can't they all use the same format, really????
I had an ultraHD that the power button failed on within 3 days of owning it.. Seems like that line has a lot of problems. They are poorly constructed and mostly plastic.. The new MinoHD cams have a much sturdier metallic construction. The sony vloggie is a pretty decent camera with a screen you can flip towards you.. Eukre is the BEST card game from up north.. we have friends down here that we play it with. and I drink POP..

really enjoyed this, just subscribed out of curiosity from a post you made on the wedding video i have just posted today. The arms not closing is a spring that's loose on the camera the one that controls that latch I had an issue with mine too and had to tear it apart myself , there is video on my channel and complete tear down pictures on my facebook page if you are interested in seeing inw of those completely torn down there's nothing to them at all really. you need to super glue that arm.
@daddytech Yeah, we super glued it and that seemed to help, but the slide part I don't think there is much we can do for that! I am a bit nervous about tearing it apart myself!
@HeyThatsMike i was too but i decided nothing ventured, nothing gained. i was quite underwhelmed when i got the case open though there's really not much to those things at all the swing arm and accompanying springs are really tricky though, i tried to avoid takking that part of it lose but unfortunately it got the better of my curiosity and i just couldn't help myself. the camera works fine but the battery isn't lasting that long now i am finding, too many short videos killed it slowly i think
@HeyThatsMike well if it's just that spring for the locking latch then you may be better off just dealing with that part of it. since you super glued the usb arm that should take car of that part. i only mentioned the disassembly video so you could get a better idea of what you were dealing with should you chose to tear into it later

I have the same problem with my flip, except I have the flip mino. Every time I try to import videos when I hook the USB to my computer the plastic on USB got loose and now it basically hangs. Now to import my videos through the USB, I need to use an extension cord.

Yeah I dont own a flip..If I did i would only use it as a back up..I love my canon!! Flip is like lil over a hundred I paid about 300 and I think its a way better camera..just my thought..We have a fake tree.
That sucks about the Flip. Most folks I know that have them seem to be happy with them. Nothing beats a real tree but watering them and the dropped needles can be a pain. The smell alone makes that worth it though!! LOL!!
When our kids were young, we always had real trees. Now we have had artificial trees for quite a few years. I like the smell of real trees, but the needles dropping can be a pain.
Fake tree for me.I live where they grow tons of them and the chemicals are really bad.The only problem i've had with my flip is batteries I had to give up on the rechargeable and just use regular.

@stealth5976 I want to say it was second gen Flip, got it brand new 6 months ago. They just came out with the newest Ultra which is slightly thinner then the one I have. And they still have the Mino which I did not like at all.

Hmmm don't know much about flips don't have one they do look handy maybe you just got a dodgy one. Thanks for showing us what Eddie's vision would look like. We have a little watering can with a skinny spout especially to water the Chrissy tree. We have a fake tree but sometimes we get a real tree. We probably will get a real one this year closer to Christmer. Tam : )

I have never owned a flip.I have been happy with my off brands.I currently use a Traveler that I bought from Aldi but I am sure they sell them online.

My usb on my flip ultra HD is doing the same thing it's getting beat up real bad too! First of all my dad dropped it and some silver ring slid all and rolled away but i found it but lost it at my house and then like 2 weeks later the lock for the battiers broke of in target! :(
I don't have a flip, but it's on my Christmas list for myself. I think you just may have gotten a bad one. I'd e-mail the company and explain the situation. Who knows you might get a new one out of it. I have a fake tree, I'm allergic to real ones. Never played Euchre. But here's one.. Fake tree....I haven't had any issues with my Flip (Had it for nearly a year now) Of course, I couldn't really complain that much since mine was sent to me free as part of a review. I also have the Vado and would not recommend that to anyone. The quality is pretty bad. Someone suggested The Bloggie by Sony (handheld). I don't know much about it though. We are looking at a Canon as our second.

I can see where that flip out plug could be problematic if you allow it to flip out. So far I like mine and I don't think it was much more than a Flip HD, but I haven't had it for 6 months.
I don't decorate but if I did it would be one of those fakes that open like an umbrella and the lights stay on them in the box.
That reminded me, I haven't downloaded free Euchre for this computer. Used to always play that in college.

i use an insignia handheld camcorder. it records in 720p, i enjoy it, it has a fold out screen and it swivels, i like the quality for 50 bucks lol

Yeah I dont own a flip..If I did i would only use it as a back up..I love my canon!! Flip is like lil over a hundred I paid about 300 and I think its a way better camera..just my thought..We have a fake tree.

That sucks about the Flip. Most folks I know that have them seem to be happy with them. Nothing beats a real tree but watering them and the dropped needles can be a pain. The smell alone makes that worth it though!! LOL!!

When our kids were young, we always had real trees. Now we have had artificial trees for quite a few years. I like the smell of real trees, but the needles dropping can be a pain.

Fake tree for me.I live where they grow tons of them and the chemicals are really bad.The only problem i've had with my flip is batteries I had to give up on the rechargeable and just use regular.

we always went with a fake tree..i tried a real tree one year and it was a pain..is that the 2nd generation flip? because i was thinking of getting the new one the 3rd generation one..I will check out the those channels you mention..good video!

@stealth5976 I want to say it was second gen Flip, got it brand new 6 months ago. They just came out with the newest Ultra which is slightly thinner then the one I have. And they still have the Mino which I did not like at all.

I have the 4 foot silver aluminum tree from my childhood complete with the color wheel. I haven't put it up though.

Hmmm don't know much about flips don't have one they do look handy maybe you just got a dodgy one. Thanks for showing us what Eddie's vision would look like. We have a little watering can with a skinny spout especially to water the Chrissy tree. We have a fake tree but sometimes we get a real tree. We probably will get a real one this year closer to Christmer. Tam : )

I like the real trees but We have a fake.
I have never owned a flip.I have been happy with my off brands.I currently use a Traveler that I bought from Aldi but I am sure they sell them online.
Love the ornament.I have never played Euchre but my husband use to play it all the time.Don't forget "The Yoopers" ,some of their music is on youtube.I like the one about the Chevy.The video is comical.

My usb on my flip ultra HD is doing the same thing it's getting beat up real bad too! First of all my dad dropped it and some silver ring slid all and rolled away but i found it but lost it at my house and then like 2 weeks later the lock for the battiers broke of in target! :(

I don't have a flip, but it's on my Christmas list for myself. I think you just may have gotten a bad one. I'd e-mail the company and explain the situation. Who knows you might get a new one out of it. I have a fake tree, I'm allergic to real ones. Never played Euchre. But here's one.. You know you're from Wisconsin when your traveling out of state and ask the gas station attendant "Excuse me. Where is the Bubbler?" LOL! Yes Eddie is getting a long over due hair cut!! Can't wait to see it!!

Fake tree....I haven't had any issues with my Flip (Had it for nearly a year now) Of course, I couldn't really complain that much since mine was sent to me free as part of a review. I also have the Vado and would not recommend that to anyone. The quality is pretty bad. Someone suggested The Bloggie by Sony (handheld). I don't know much about it though. We are looking at a Canon as our second.

I can see where that flip out plug could be problematic if you allow it to flip out. So far I like mine and I don't think it was much more than a Flip HD, but I haven't had it for 6 months.
I don't decorate but if I did it would be one of those fakes that open like an umbrella and the lights stay on them in the box.
That reminded me, I haven't downloaded free Euchre for this computer. Used to always play that in college.
