I like your attitude towards gear. Doing something yourself definitely helps you understand how things work, invaluable when things break and need repairing.
I have used an alcohol burner for many years. The one negative I have found is in extremely cold weather. It takes much longer for the alcohol to start vaporizing, but in warmer weather they work great.
what was that guys name again timmy, jimmy, or kenny...lol j/k man he must have paid you well for the plug. Nice video i really liked it made me 4 alcohol stoves today cant wait to try mine. Keep up the good vids and have fun.
@smillyfish Just giving credit where credit is due. Too many people take other peoples ideas as their own these days. I would not have done this cooking method if I hadn't seen him do it. I appreciate anything someone can teach me.
@therottinzombie it is a smaller version of the other zip loc container. You take one lid and cut out enough to let the small container fit through. Then screw them togeather.
@Mirobe55 anything that has a coating inside is bad to cook with, on nalgene's website they tell you about BPA and what is safe to use. basically any aluminum can or bottle needs an inside epoxy coating so you shouldnt use it. stainless steel is the only safe bet
what tarp do u use? im looking for a tarp that is good for lighting a fire near it, water resistant and if possible versatile, so i can make a improvised tent or whatever with it....and cheap :D
Tinny has got so popular over the years that he has trouble keeping up with demand so he doesnt sell much on his site anymore. You can email him and do a pre-order but it will take a while
How come you people don't give a dam about what you are cooking in? Todays canned products are all coated with a type of plastic epoxy and this substance is known to contain Bisphenol-A, (BPA); which is said to be safe as long as it is not heated. But once heated, this chemical component of the plasic lining leaches out into the product one is cooking, which will in turn cause bodily harm. Course, probably take a little time before nerve damage or cancer takes hold.
Good job... I use methyl hydrate. Nobody seems to mention that . It's 99.9% alcohol. Much better than heat. Don't know why no one's discovered that yet...haha! It's the cleanest burning and gives very quick boil times :o) Tinny has a vid on the downside of denatured. I wouldn't recommend it. My Gogreen Kitchens are simular. It's revised with 330 ml. heini cans and a silicone lip guard and 2 16 oz. ziplocks like is paradym :o)
I don't buy it. Two to the worst materials, aluminum can with a type of poly plasic liner, to heat up and put your food and/ or drink next to. I think I would really Really have to be down on my luck to utilize these materials for cooking.
boiling in it is nearly the same temperature as pastuerizing beer with live yeast, dumbasses.
Paul whatever, this is light backpacking gear so you can minimize carried crap, not cooking gear, moron. Did you even watch the video or read the title? This is a perfect way to boil water for ramen or make a cup of tea in the middle of the woods.
the liner actually helps when the pot gets hot it wont let the aluminum particles into the substance you are cooking! but i would recommend using like a peach/pear/olive can that is made from tin (harder metal)
I wrote Heineken Customer Care this is their reply:
Dear hoz
Thank you for making Heineken aware of the use of our cans in a nontraditional manner. According to our packaging engineers, the inner lacquer coating of beverage cans are not intended to be used at high temperatures. The specific coating in our beer cans is suited for contact with beer only at pasteurizing temperature, which is well below cooking
Cansor? Wow. Cancer is the word that I believe the spell-checker (built in to youtube) would put in there for you. BPA does take a while to show up in your system, but as the research is incomplete, I would say just don't cook every meal every day on it. Peace.
ummmmm.......not to alarm you but do you rember the BPA in the naglene, well when you heat up that white codeing it lets the BPA out and it causes CANSOR just wanted to tell you because you may not want to feed your kids with it
That's not really what you said, You said that BPA causes cancer, and that he might want to reconsider feeding his kids with it.
This is the same scare that pull nalgenes sales down and was proven to be almost irrelevant..
Again.. It would take number of years and daily use to have BPA show up in ur system, let alone develop cancer. I'm also pretty sure he cooks with a modern stove at home.. that being said.. I'd categorize your comment as a scare, hijacking the ingenuity of this hobo stove.
ummmm........ok thats why all nalgenes say BPA free now, and what does it matter to you im symply warning him of the hazards the may come from using the pot.
if you read the nalgene link I sent you, you would have seen they didn't discontinue the product, because there wasn't any potential harm with BPAs, instead they came out with a new plastic for their bottles that is BPA free, just to shut-up people scared from BPAs.
The old nalgene still exist, infact they are to be found everywhere.
you didn't send me a link you just said check out the website. so if they say that theres no bpa then way spend the money to make them BPA free if there was no risk
BPA doesn't cause cancer in the first generation. It builds in the system and transfers to the fetus during conception. In addition, exposure to very low doses during pregnancy can cause a host of defects in the developing embryo.
BPA is an endocrine imitator. Scientists have researched it's effect for over 30 years. The FDA is hesitant to mass recall as it is prevalent in our food chain. No cheaper, organic alternative is known at this time.
Chris wasn't attacking the stove, it's the pot that's suspect. BPA MIGHT be stable in the can but heat breaks it down causing leachate in the water, water you cooking food in.
To reiterate, it doesn't effect YOU but YOUR CHILDREN! It's your choice.
BPA has been eliminated in baby bottles, and someday it will be removed from our food chain altogether. We can only hope it won't be too late.
So eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we all die.
Thanks. I have watched many of your video's and have enjoyed them. I like your Harley also. I am an avid motorcycle rider also. Keep the video's coming. I love the beer cook pot. It is very easy to use and so lite weight. You should definitely make one.

LOL BPA.
You'd have to use this stove everyday for a couple number of years, for BPA to even show up in your system.
You should check nalgene's website for more information about BPA's scare.
