Hi friend, the cool man in the white t-shirt in the background is Rory´s longtime sound-engineer Tom O´Driscoll. He was one of the pallbearer on Rorys funeral.Rory liked him a lot and he was one of few people who was allowed to visit Rory in his last days in the hospital. Must have been a good man.
I am one of the priviledged who have seen Rory perform life in Rotterdam 1974. He played for 3 and a half hour, gave it all he got, an experience of a lifetime I have seen a lot of great musicians performing life, Gary Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Mark Knopfler, Eric CLapton, and many more, all great, but no one as heartbreaking good as Rory, he made such an impression.Funny thing, we went back by the first train in the morning, with a lot of others who were there, and all were singing his songs.
anybody know what this video is from? Is it off one of Rory's dvds? Sure do wish i could have seen Rory play live. He seemed like such a cool dude, always a smile on his face and having a good time. Thats what its all about.
Watching this made me realize what was special about Rory. When the 60's ended and we lost Jimi, Janis, Jim, Brian...Rory was still there. That's what set him apart he was first and foremost a musician (and a yeoman one at that) and not caught up in all the trappings of Stardom. So the spirit -the zeitgeist- lived on with him until his untimely death. RIP Rory!
Man! Where is all this prime 1975 footage coming from? Wasn't up here a few months ago that i could see. I thought seeing live Taste footage was the eight wonder of the world. And now this!!
I was there!! And yes it is Finnish for sure. Met my Finnish wife a week before this festival and, maybe thanks to Rory, 30 years married to her now!! Last week-end in Ballyshannon festival. GREAT !!
Yeah, he's speaking Finnish. Translated into English: "In the 70s Yleisradio (the general radio station of Finland) visited summer festivals eagerly. Now we'll see how that legendary Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher rocked at Ruisrock in 1975."
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing this. I was also born too late, never got to see Rory live. Watching these live videos just makes me want to cry! He's the greatest and most soulful guitarist ever in my opinion.
I was there. An amazing show of strenght. Due to powerloss Rory had to cut his set short to just a full hour, but what an hour. One of the best Rory-gigs I ever attended.
@therealmbassy You have an excuse. I was in my 20''s back then and never saw him play. He came to Cleveland several times, and Mr. stupid was too busy doing other things, and missed out on the greatest guitar man of my time. My pain is self inflicted.
Gracias por por este magnifico video
