  • It's also OK to ignore the historical associations and just love the song for what it is, a romantic, nostalgic, lullaby. :)

  • I still prefer the original. Only Lale Andersen's version I used several times in plays I directed.

  • I think the German version sounds better than the traslated version.

  • *bites cyanide capsule*

  • the germans never translated vera lynn? lili marleen was written by a german poet during WW1.

  • I believe this is the version of the song made popular by both sides during the North African campaign. Gobbles didn't like it ---- he wanted a march: the cretin.

  • sa me rappel le bon vieux temps.

Seine mich erinnern an die guten alten Tage

  • My father joined Latvijan Luftwaffa @ 14 because stalin took his Family. POW @16. Say no more. Commie fucks.... Leave us ALONE... !!!

  • Just enjoy a beautiful song, delicately sung by Lale. Why do so many people have to go on political rants - there are other places more appropriate for their outpourings.

  • I just finished reading "Lili Marlene: The Soldiers' Song of World War II" and I believe this was the original recording. The poem was written in 1915, set to music in 1938, recorded the same year and then aired for the first time on the same evening as Kristallnacht! It quickly died but was resurrected three years later on Radio Belgrade and became immensely popular after that. I highly recommend the book!

  • This song dates from (I think) around 1915. Does anybody know where the original can be found on YouTube? Who was the singer?

  • @Booker42100 ummm the song was written in 1915 but afaik lale andersen was the first person to record it

  • @Booker42100 - song was written in 1915 but it was first recorded in 1939 by Lale Andersen, so this is original.

  • @kptwillard The lyrics were written in 1915 by Hans Leip (1893–1983), a, but the tune was written in 1939 by Norbert Schultze.

  • Rommel admired this song

  • @tiberiuszann Yeah, too bad their golden fruit was rotten to the core and implied killing a large part of the population and treating the others as slaves.

  • sod yer pathetic politics! ...it's a great song - Marlene's or Lale's version? ...it all depends on your personal taste, why not shut up and enjoy them both

  • The Perfect Song, sung by the Perfect Songstress. War is Music, and Music is War!And sometimes, that is worth dying for, but, is it worth killing for? Sieg Heil.

  • @SamG2016 This song is worth dying for, Nazism is worth living against.

  • my friends...if you look at the terms...you'll end up with seeing that "nazi" is equal with " commie"...soldiers died for nothing...good soldiers from both parts...

    do not get fooled...

it doesn't matter..."lili" oder "katiusha" ist gleich...

    fuck the politicians...

(mostly the idiots who push the war)

  • Well the lyrics were written in 1914 so...

  • So this is the recording of 45 rpm record I have! I don't have a record player so I looked it up and found it here. I understand that the recording was broadast and became popular with the German soldiers until the Nazi's prohibited because Lale was friends with some Jews. I spent the night researching Lale Anderson and its quite an interesting life story. Thank you!

  • I would almost swear this is actually Mimi Thoma?! *confused*

  • e da questa dolcezza che i tedeschi hanno fatto allla brace 6 milioni di ebrei

  • hisotry is written by victors..

  • @pyllywaltteri You're not one of those "The Holocaust is a lie" guys are you?

  • @DrCanyonero

... Holochaust did happen.. but not only in germany.

  • @pyllywaltteri Who said it only happened in Germany?

  • great tune...great song...now this is the swing I've been looking for

  • Knew this song from Apocalypse World War 2

  • the National Socialilast had steal from others for their dream, should have been a man and paid.

  • ô "yogiri fuka-ku tachikomete - "ô

It was a Japanese, and it was 47 years old now, and it was a child of a primary schoolchild in 1970's.

I learned this song what in an elementary school.

There is a Japanese version properly.

It is collected in "karaoke" properly now.

  • I prefer Lale Andersen's voice to Marlene Dietrich...there's more emotion. I love the accordion in the Marlene Dietrich version, but her voice is so flat :(

  • Beautiful song. The best version ever.

  • супер!!!

  • a beautiful song is a beautiful song, and the troops of both rommel and monty fought and died for what they believed in,or just cos they were there.everytime i listen to this song i think of them all,and that will never change.leaders just tell soldiers where to dine, and the pbi pick up the bill.

  • In 1942 Goebbels had Lale Anderson imprisoned for undermining troop moral with Lily Marlene. She also coresponded with close Jewish friends and refused to make publicity appearences for Goebbels. In 1943 Anderson was allowed to sing again but was banned from singing Lily Marlene. During her return concert, when it came time for Lily Marlene the audience sang it themselves. In August 1944 Goebbels banned the song altogether. By then Lily Marlene had attained a life of its own.

  • @RossM3838 thats right believe all the propaganda. The truth was many artists andmost of Europe were solidly behind Hitler, who was only defeated because of the USA and USSR s satanic alliance. Lale Anderson like the French singer Edith Piaf regularly performed for German forces. That they changed their tune in 1945 was understandable as they needed to perform to live.

  • @peterbishop1968 excuse me but remmber that germany ocupied the home lands of these artists and i do belive that when some one owns your house he gets to make the rules

you chaps keep sprouting this nonsence about propaganda, there where probebly some artists who where with the nazis but i dout if many did so out of their own will.

it is the other way around, if these artists did somthing the germans did not like then their life would be indanger

  • Marlene Ditrih лучше ,это исполнение тоже хорошее.

  • @vovulkaz

     это оригинальный

  • Das waren noch Zeiten(Wahre)!

  • Давили гадов!И Будем Давить

  • @Vakum100 Konechno. No bilo tozhe samoya Russkoya pes'nya no pa Russki. See Lili Marlene in Russian. The lyrics were written in 1915, long before those "Gadi proklatoye".

  • greece on the top...lossers of the war....

  • I miss the another video showing combat scenes Where on the hell it´s

  • great song!

  • YES

  • It's really no miracle that this song was such a hit. It's good written, has an extremely catchy melody (perfect to whistle) and it has "Herzschmerz".

  • I can't make any sense of it: my dad's whole family are Jews, originally from Vienna and L'viv. But I love this song, and can sing it word for word, auf Deutsch.

Why, oh why, do those Boches always write such pretty tunes?

  • maybe because Germany has a huge history in music and the arts in general? I mean...12 years of nazism cannot make us forget that! Please!

  • @marcobagut 12 years of National Socialism tried to continue the great traditional European arts (art, architecture, music, etc.), It is since then they have all been turned degenerate. The National Socialists were fighting for a new golden age in Europe.

  • @stepheng1483 About fourty percent of German and Austrian clasical musicians were Jews prior to the Nazi period . They, as well as a number of musicians, such as toscannini, who disliked the Nazis fled Europe or were killed. I hardly call that protection of the arts.

  • @Zofja1 National Socialism brought back real art, architecture and music, they stamped out the degenerate rubbish that paases off as art, architecture, etc. today.

  • @stepheng1483 You could not be more wrong if you worked at it for 12 years! Where did you get your education?socialism ALWAYS collapses under its own weight and produces very little in the way improvements. NO truly socialistic state has ever stood for long, and always leaves misery in its wake.

  • @NOMADdaf "National Socialism" is a very specialized term. It doesn't have anything to do with socialism. It arose when capitalism was collapsing under its own weight in 1920s Germany.

  • @mvonwahlde If true free market capitalism starts to fail, let it that is the beauty of free market. It will fix its elf how ever pain it might be. But socialism is far worse because it is artificially kept alive by force of government, as is capitalism with no free market. That is what is happening here in the USA now, People are blaming our woes on capitalism when lack of a true free market is the real demon. And that lack is brought on by pseudo socialism creeping slowly in.

  • @NOMADdaf True free market capitalism will never fail because there will never be true free market capitalism. If the market was truly free the major players would combine and create monopolies and trusts. The trusts and oligarchies would then skew the once free market so that it would not favor them. And the market would be free no more.

  • @mvonwahlde You need to study history more. Monopolies and trusts are created by government tampering. The power is in the hands of the buying public. Only government protection can cause a monopoly to exist. Then they tried to laughingly try to fix it thru anti trust laws. The government spends more time trying to fix what they cause then they try to fix the fix. it is a viscous circle that ends in socialism.

  • @NOMADdaf Without governmental regulation, it is a vicious circle that ends in feudalism.

  • @mvonwahlde I should remind you, that todays economies, are ultra regulated by the government. So what you're saying is utter bullshit.

Laissez Fairez died in the 20's.

  • @SoyuzMoguchy And I should remind you that today's economies are ultra-regulated by business interests--especially finance. So what you are saying is just insulting my intelligence.

  • @NOMADdaf Blaming "capitalism" or "communism" for anything is just another way of blaming human nature.

  • @mvonwahlde your point has no point. Just stick to facts. Free market capitalism works ans communism/socialism does not. Free market leads to advancements, high standard of living and whether for good or bad,win or fail it is by choice. I would rather die free and poor of my own doing than exist with no worries at the hands of others. Its seems only Americans get that. I don't want free health care I want freedom.I don't want everyone to have a car but they ALL suck.

  • @mvonwahlde I don't want equal housing for all if I must live in tiny box no matter how hard I work.We have been at the top of the food chain for 150 years because of our freedoms. And now that they are slipping away so is our greatness. How can you not see the connection? And we have brought great things to the rest of the world. Bad mouth the USA all you like but everyone wants to be us.All I want is the same freedom for all,not us having everyone oppression like everyone else.

  • @NOMADdaf this has nothing to do with this song but any way

the truth is their hasn't been a system that has worked properly EVER.

socialisem is poblematic but it can work in a small comunal bases

but more then that socialsem can't do

capitalisem is a major problem becuase it leads to the invetual holding of wealth in the hands of the few like in the age of kings in chrisindom

like it or not once wealth exsists in the hands of the few it becomes a class tyrrany

  • @stepheng1483 Thanks for the laugh. Hitler was a pig with no taste.

  • @stepheng1483 What the... Have you ever LOOKED AT nazi architecture??? And compared it to classical architecture??? There's no continuity, on the contrary, they tried to be as industrial and therefore unbearable to see as possible!!

  • @marcobagut if god can forgive so can we

  • Lily Marlene cuts directly against Nazi propaganda. Thats why they banned it and even arrested Lale Anderson. Originally written in 1915 it's about a soldier meeting his girl below a streetlight and wondering if he will ever return from the front. Its deep sadness is hardly heroic. They gave Anderson such a hard time she attempted suicide. Fortunately she survied and so did this great song.

  • That much is true. The narrator doesn't come right out and say, "Make love, not war," but he leaves little doubt about which he'd prefer to be doing.

  • more poetic than that but that's the idea:

    Da sagten wir, Auf Wiedersehen,

wie gerne wollt ich mit dir gehen,

    mit Dir Lili Marleen,

    mit Dir Lili Marleen.

    I'd rather be

    with you

    with you

  • точно.в ней поется о солдате уходящем на фронт 1мировой,и вспоминающем о своих любимых женщинах Лили и Марлен.Ганс Кляйп написал её в1915году.

  • @valera03fys Pravda. I don't know when the melody was composed, but you are correct in pointing out that the lyrics or poem, if you will, was composed in 1915. Let the truth be known.

  • Well its not true, Im from Belgrade and in 1941 when they occupied the city they formed a radio station and the DJ was just a solider who didnt have any songs, so he took what he found in the local shop. He played it a lot and german solidersz liked it, then they banned it for a while, but then they played it again since general Rommel insisted that it boosts the morale of the German army and from then on they played in on Radio Belgrade every night from 10pm, EVERY NIGHT

  • And the second part of your post is wrong too, they didnt give Anderson "such a hard time", according to History Channel she even appeared in morale boosting Nazi film in 1945. She only had slight problems because her best friends were Jews, but she decided to return to Germany from Switzerland. You should really watch that documentary. Also you should watch Kusturica movie "Underground" it was awarded 1st prize at Cannes Festival, it has a lot about this song

  • @Njzizskmp What I like about your post is that you present your argument without insulting the person you disagree with like so many others do. They resort to ad hominem attacks while you educate your readers for the better. It is refreshing to read your comments because they demonstrate the fact that they were composed by an intelligent, not belligerant being. Thank you for your information, the kind of info I was not aware of and which I found to be very interesting.

  • @Njzizskmp-no offence, but if you you the history channel as a source of information then to me that disqualifies you from sensible debate.i despise national socialism and british-style imperialism equally, but the victors write the history books...

  • @enyoowenhedzdown What is a "sensible debate" on youtube? I just gave you some info, if you saw the documentary on History Channel you would have heard all of that there... Debate on youtube is a waste of time

  • Does any know what has happened with Lili Marleen video? Lala sings also but it was very good video. It ends when Berlin was bombed and the end of song is modded, like echo.

  • roadwarrior3 joins mobyyy7777 in asking, what has happened to the video that accompanied Lale Anderson singing "Lili Marlene"? The video showed a variety of battle scenes and other scenes from WWII including 31 year old Major Remer giving a highly motivated speech in 1944 to the "Gross¬Deutschland" Guard regiment in Berlin.

  • If Moby and Roadwarrior are talking about the video that showed youth scenes, a family saluting as soldiers marched by, and scenes of defeat at the end, I wonder too. That was an excellent video. Can someone re-post?

  • I had this saved with pictures of Lale with her mother and

shot of her throughout her life. It ended with a shot of her

headstone. Dose anyone know what happened to that

video? I deleted it by mistake.

  • 德文版比英文版來得好聽。

The German version is better than the English version. I love this.

  • Where's the sound?

  • Such a beautiful song, haunting delicate melody; unforgettable delivery. Wonderful.

  • me gusta masesta version igual la chilena es mas energica pero es mas linda esta

  • wenn man mal darüber nachdenkt das das ein soldat ursprünglich als gedicht geschrieben hat ist das ein sehr schönes lied geworden

  • NICE SONG

    BEAUTIFUL VOICE

  • sad that this song was popular on both sides of the war..its sick that both sides were slaughtering each other when their own leaders of both sides were having dinner parties together..And the filthy rich corrupt bankers without scruples or morals were funding both sides. How sick..how on earth did we get deceived by these evil demonic clowns

  • I think you can say that about world war 1, but not world war 2...

  • ... and it holds true to this very day: wars are always a means to make money BIG MONEY ... the suffering of people is condisered 'collateral' or even 'patriotic' ... I cvringe everytime smebody used that very term p-a-t-r-i-o-t-i-c ... guess still too few people in the world have read "All Quiet on the Western Front" ... Erich Maria Remarque's never-wilting, anti-militaristic, anti-war novel ... Wake up, people, and refuse your tax payments to war mongers!!! ... Peace, Paix, Frieden, Pax. Julia

  • so true
