I don't know if I should be happy or sad about The Centre. Hamilton may not be the most fabulous place to live but it's still an awesome sight to go up on the mountain and look down at the city lights at night. Other than that the industrial smell stays with you for a few years.
hey, i seen your center mall videos and i was wondering if you could help? Im trying to collect all the pictures of center mall that exist from 1980+...if I had yours they would be a great edition! ill give you credit and everything.
Do you know when the new "Metro" store is gonna open? i was wondering about the other stores too, like food court, dollarama...etc. It seems to be taking forever!
@BookemDeno That is so surreal. True I have't been there in a few decades but that isn't reason to tear the place down. I still recall when it was "new". By that I mean in my youth it was more of a "plaza" and there was no indoor "mall" per se until the early 1970s. Bummer.
I started going to the center mall in the late 60's.
I remember when the center twin cinimas were a bowling ally/pool hall..my dad won a few snooker tournaments. first movie i saw at the twin cinimas was 2001 space oddesy. I remember when zellers use to be.. "Morgans"...then "robinsons" I worked at Jims nut shack filling glass jugs with water to make thier soda. got 10 cents a jug....back then you could buy alot of candy for 10 cents.
oh yeah..i remember Big Boy & k-mart & the arcade..
It totally sucks that they are tearing the mall and building a strip mall, what a stupid idea that was. I remember when I was a kid in the 90s I used to go there so many times in a month. I remember there was a Bi-way, the arcade, and so much other stuff. The Centre Mall was my favorite memory of all time when I was a kid. They should have renovated the mall.
@fanofwrestling123 I was a kid in the 90's and used to live 2 blocks away. I Remember the arcade the rear entrance. Back when I was a child, I was mesmerized by the fountain near Zellers. Also I loved that kiosk near sears that sold flavors of popcorn. I think it was called "Jim's nut shack". There was also a cool store called "San Diego's" with a bunch of crazy toys going off. My mom worked at Tim Hortons in the Canadian Tire and I got the opportunity to walk in the back hallways for deliverys.
I remember there used to be a 'Big Boy' restaurant there that my parents would take me to when I was a wee kid. This is going back to the 70's. I moved away from Hamilton in the early 90's. Sad to hear this mall was torn down. I think the last movie I went to at the theatre there was Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure.
I would totally agree with CTM1987 because the idiot who decided to put strip malls and tore down the mall is a retarded moron because even if you put a srtip mall you won't get any much more shoppers so therefor its a total waste.
I've lived in Hamilton my entire life. I remember when there was a K-MART in the old food court. Does anyone remember the old arcade? I'm surprised no one mentioned it. Remember when Consumer's Distributing was there...that didn't last long. But I totally agree, I don't know why they ever got rid of the THEATRE. It was the BEST, and the cheapest form of entertainment at the time. Fricken ROCKED!!! Yeah too bad you weren't aloud to film the inside, I guess we'll just have to remember it.
@contentlittlesoul I LIVED at Centre Mall I remember the K Mart store off the food court, Fun & Games down by Sears, Kresge's, Mc Vicar's Butcher shop, Athens Diner (everyone just called it "The Greek's") going there for a corned beef on rye and a Coke was a real treat when I went shopping with my parents as a kid! I remember seeing Star Wars at the Centre Twin theater for something like 18 consecutive weekends! Fond Memories!
Whoever had the idea to build the new stores with their backs to Barton Street was a complete and utter fucking moron. Why the hell would you do that. Everyone I know who has passed by that area comments on how stupid that looks. They should have just torn down the entire mall and built a strip of shops like they have next to SilverCity theatre in Ancaster.
I went there first in early July of 2007 and it was okay but when I came back in December of 2008 it was completely destroyed and they had a new Zellers out back behind the old one. I say what a stupid idea that was.
Are you kidding? I grew up in the East end and after Fiesta Mall cinemas, Center Mall was the only other theatre I went to. I even remember going to see Final Fantasy back in 2001 just before they closed and turned it into a bingo hall. I miss that movie theatre. and I can remember almost every single movie I saw there since seeing Gremlins when I was 6 years old back in 1984.
Good video, you should post it as a video response to my "4. A Ghost Town on Barton Street" video to mutually help your video and my 9 part series on Barton st. as well as Barton St. it self out. 5 stars for this, Check it out my "4. A Ghost Town on Barton Street" was used by a coalition on poverty in a presentation to the city.
