The reason it's got low at times was due to past events like the highland clearences and immigration of Highlander Scots to the Lowlands and east coast to the north.
And there were huge immigrations of nearly a million Scots after the 2nd world war who had to leave to the new world like Canada, USA, New Zealand ect, this had a big effect on Scotland's future population.

@SuperYellow1989 Scotland has had a population of more than 5million before, back in the 1800's there were over 9million Scots.
The reason it's got low at times was due to past events like the highland clearences and immigration of Highlander Scots to the Lowlands and east coast to the north.
And there were huge immigrations of nearly a million Scots after the 2nd world war who had to leave to the new world like Canada, USA, New Zealand ect, this had a big effect on Scotland's future population.

Only independence will restore equality.
The SNP are the only party who will give Scotland a democratic choice on independence. All other parties will try to vote it down at the drop of a hat.

A bigger population doesn't equal better funding, the bigger a population the more it costs to run, so when you add that all up, having a bigger population suddenly can become just as much a burden as it is a blessing.

London is a major world capitol and is the most important financial center in the world. However Edinburgh is the 7th most important financial center in the world which is great too. I dunno man. At least evolution sounds a lot more logical than say, talking snakes, walking on water, resurrection. It just seems more reasonable to say that the Earth is not in fact a few thousand years old (I'd like to throw in two words; Dinosaur fossils). Also, with so many religions in the world (many of which worship more than one deity), why would the Christian God be the one true God when Christianity is the youngest religion of them all?

The Bible talks about dinosaurs but not by that name--the word dinosaur is a 19th century word. If you care to look through my favourites you'll see a fossil with human and dinosaur footprints together. Christianity is not the "youngest religion of them all". Chrisrtianity predates Islam and Roman Catholicism by centuries.The Bible doesn't state catergorically that earth was created 6 thousand years ago but it tells us man was created 6 thousand years ago.

Hey Limmy, Im a Scot living in London, forgot what it was like back in Scotland for a while, thanks for the update! I have to totally agree with you, when I was living in Scotland I would constantly put faith in the shit that went on, be it awards ceremonies, competitions, or local gigs etc., but they were always half arsed affairs and I always left feeling that I shouldn't of put so much hope in them at all! I lived in London for years too. When I returned to live up Norf...they were still pointing at aeoroplanes. Anything half assed, lame or tragic about Scotland was blamed on 'The English', like we don't have the guts to own our own lameness. Obviously you've no attachment to Scotland keltyk. Don't belittle those who do. Patriotism and Scottish Pride does not necessarily mean ignorance. I love Limmy's show because it's true Scottish humour. The only thing i despise England for is the mutual hate they have for us. Watch limy's video on "Britain's got talent" The fact that the English see themselves as Britain's representative is the tragedy.

Tapz. Regional England feels marginalised by London, our only powerful city. In London itself, paradoxically, White 'English' are fast becoming a minority. Scot nationalism is often emotional and irrational. You can see it in the anger expressed on this page. Scots who act adult are highly respected in England in my experience. We despise a false England known from TV- a thing of the past. We think Eastenders is real, but the cast would be 98% Asian in reality.

I understand what you're saying but i think you miss the point of patriotism a little bit.. or at least part of it. Well.. at least the way my friends and i use it. We use it as a means of comedy and culture, like being over emotional and fully patriotic is actually a lot of fun - especially when you live in a foreign country like me.

I was patriotic until I moved back and tasted cold reality and hostility (however i live in Fife, and we're the worst c*** in Scotland,everybody hates us. A breed apart. On a humorous note, it's fun to dress in full Highland for special occasions, but to stand there in a big skirt taking it too seriously is entirely another matter.

True- the spokespeople for 'Britain's Got Cheesy Talent' were very patronising and ignorant. That's a London mentality. When you live there, you feel closer to New York, Paris, Rome etc than the UK, period. Big league, get over it. BUT the ignorance shown on BGT reflects views of an ignorant minority. BGT is dredge, fit only for Daily Mirror readers. Who cares what they think they're only showbizz numps. They don't run the country and never could with that attitude.

I'm not trying to detract from the people who won Scottish BAFTAs or any similar award, I'm sure they all worked very hard to earn their awards, but it seems that the whole point of these awards is almost to say "Hey, look, Scotland can have awards too! Look what we can do!". As much as I love living here in Scotland, it sometimes seems we can be a bit cheesy.
