whole lot of smiths-a-holics in this comment thread, i see what you're saying about it's influences and all, but not all modern indie pop should be compared to the smiths. it's just a great pop tune.
@crazyrey01 I would hate to see a world where people were not influenced by The Smiths. Thus I agree with you friend. This song is it's own. Born of purity. I hate youtube comments. Including my own.
Plagiarism or not, who gives a fuck, really? Everything is influenced by something else or heard before, a slightly different sound or a slightly different melody is added, that's the way music works, no need to bitch about it, or to become the number one internet troll. If you don't agree, you could always go and listen to some music from around the time Jesus Christ was born... and i bet even that came from somewhere before
I like to listen to them regularly, more than Bowie or The Smiths.
i don't even remotely understand why so many people take the time to write relatively long comments about how they *don't* like a band or a song. you don't like it? cool. move on. listen to something you do enjoy or do something productive. draw a picture, learn a new sport. but stop hating, okay? okay good.
*yaaaaaaawn* Great, another completely soulless, forgettable band who thrive off of an interesting name. If you like this you're either a retard whose missed the last 50 years of music, or a fellow trying to get mad laid by a bunch of hipster chicks.
Seriously.. How can this music excite you in any way?
@sheepeasy It is enough that you can't appreciate a good twee pop when you hear it, but to judge people who can in such a closed minded way... Valid source: "The Pains simply made a slyly confident debut that mixes sparkling melodies with an undercurrent of sad bastard mopery, and you're just being a dick if you think the past has some kind of patent on that. That's just the way good pop music works." I wont use the word retard and I wont continue this argue. Cheers.
@lorelajg But.. I still think they're shit and.. This is the internet.. So fuck you? I can't appreciate twee pop because I dislike it. I think anything that can have the adjective "twee" attached to it is shit and I don't think it's okay to regurgitate the sounds of the past WITHOUT adding anything to them (which this band hasn't).
"good pop music" no.
"sparkling melodies with an undercurrent of sad bastard mopery" where?
@sheepeasy i hear u and agree, mostly, this is not very original, so in a nostalgic way I MAY LISTEN TO THIS CRAP FOR A FEW DAYS-FEW WEEKS, but wont last because its fakery and weak..
Everyone seems to copy 80s post-punk/new-wave bands like The Smiths, Joy Division, The Cure etc. and 90s showgaze ones like Ride, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine these days. Nice try but nothing like the originals. Im not a old fart lost in nostalgia or something. Its just the truth. :P
@PanLamda Haha.. I'm 17 and I think most kids my age can appreciate that most of this shit is a ripoff of the past. The only thing that seperates modern day knockoffs like this band and people from the genuine era: soul. This band is soulless and have nothing of any value to say. The smiths = emotional, well written.
@sheepeasy nice to see an observant kid!!! if I choose to listen to this band it would only be for a "hot minute", 4 the reasons u just said..its kinda nostalgic but not very good
@DavidF89999 How? Because my generation aren't a bunch of idiots or because you don't like people younger than you having opinions different to your own?
@sheepeasy He meant your "cottaging" age, Clive. You know, the number of years you've been hanging around the toilet stalls at train stations catching and spreading various STDs.
I think the reason most people make the Smiths distinction is because of the jangly guitars. I personally don't agree, but to each their own. The band sounds like the older Slumberland noise pop bands like Black Tambourine and Sarah Records shoegazey stuff like Secret Shine to me more than anything else including The Smiths.
@weihoozie I think it's mostly because anytime people hear anything that reminds them of 80's era pop music they think of the smiths, if they don't know anything else from that era.
...the way you lived your final days a teenager in love with christ and heroin...these lyrics and the music after make me wanna cry, so beautiful, this is such a beautiful band.
right now, lots of micachu, liars and some abe vigoda, blood red shoes, broadcast, department of eagles,
(actually I don't like pains of being pure at heart, just checking them out, cause maybe I would like them) (but I don't. With all the respect for people who do)
indie bands are starting to sound too much the same, it's repetitive and dangerously becoming a fad... there goes hope for a better light in the music industry (unsurprisingly a global phenomenon)...
