  • Ok, I had two of my boys try this. One preferred to stick with arms narrow, one found he liked it better with the arms out. It's probably worth noting that the one who preferred to keep the arms narrow has very flexible shoulders, and the one who preferred to bring them out is stiffer through the shoulders.

I'll see if I can get more people trying this at some point.

  • I really like the point about opening the chest and then developing power and momentum by closing as you initiate the front.

  • Interesting -- this is completely the opposite of how I've seen most coaches teach the skill, and it is very counterintuitive. However, it does make sense.

I'll have my guys experiment with this.

  • @GeoffTaucer Let us know how it goes, cause I've kinda got the same thoughts as you. It's the opposite of what I've been told, but I can see how it makes sense. I was hoping some more experienced coaches than myself could comment and discuss how it affects more advanced tumbling.

  • this is how i have always taught front handspring front! i think both ways work tho

  • This is interesting. I've was always told to make sure the arms stay right next to the ears the whole way through the handspring. I'd like to see what others have to say.

Anyway love the channel ... keep the vids coming :-)

  • @KaraKarateka Yeah! Me too. My coach even put a robe around my arms not to put them apart. Why should this be better? I don't get it.
