  • Why did the Democrat Congress not bring this up one year ago? They deliberately deprived first responders of aid to use them as political shields for the lame duck session. Republicans vowed to make tax cut extension the priority in a financial recession and the Democrats have thrown in this bill to embarrass them and the media of course plays along with it.

  • @NewsDenizen You honestly think this bill was something that just magically appeared this year? The Zadroga Bill was first introduced in 2006 by NY Democrat Rep Carolyn Maloney and Sen Bob Menendez but didnt pass and remained in politcal limbo until the House passed a revised version in September. so you claim that they "threw" this in just to embarasss Republicans is ridiculous as is your attemst to somehow make this the Democrats' fault. Besides, the Repub party SHOULD be embarassed. After...

  • (cont.) all, how in world can they POSSIBLY justify witholding aid from 9/11 first responders in favor of tax cuts for billionaires who dont need it anyway, ESPECIALLY when the money used to fund this aid would have come from closing a tax loophole that benefits FOREIGN companies???

  • @elkadir70 Why was it in "limbo" with a Democrat controlled Congress that can (and did) pass almost anything? The responsible compromise placed a cap on lawyer fees to ten percent, not 50 percent which means less than 50 percent would get to those who really need it. Those people include construction workers hired on months after 9/11 who were not first responders like firefighters, police and EMS who have excellent health coverage. Those FOREIGN firms hire AMERICAN workers. Thanks

  • @NewsDenizen Because bills that are defeated in Congress dont magically just revive themselves overnight . Most bills dont even get a second chance no matter who is in power. Thats just how the process works. The Zaddroga bill had to be revised and wait four more years before it was finally passed in teh house. However it would have just died in teh Senate thanks to Republican obstructionism had it not gotten so much last-minute attenstion its a god thing the media finally DID play along.

  • @elkadir70 "Republican obstructionism" saved at least two billion going to trial lawyers who were nowhere near Ground Zero on 9/11 thanks to the cap on legal fees leaving more funding for those who need it. If the Democrat Congress applied that kind of responsible spending in the last four years we would not be in our financial mess today which will contribute to fewer first responders hired on and retained by cities and states across the nation. Thanks

  • @NewsDenizen These three were especially clueless, floundering at this point and again later in the show, offering excuses for Republican obstructionism, like "well I don't know if this is paid for or not, but that's the reason for blocking a lot of things."Congressman Anthony Weiner appeared on MSNBC later Friday evening with the clarification that the final house version was fully funded.

  • It was dutifully pointed out that Republicans blocked it but what exactly is included in the bill worth 7 billion dollars of borrowed money considering the notorious pork spending hidden in such bills in the past?

Why did this Congress after spending trillions of dollars not vote on it earlier this year?

If our sophisticated media does not ask these questions but simply follows the lead of Jon Stewart, who does?

  • What's the woman in the window signaling at 1:27 in?
