  • And then the sky comes down...

  • Nice capture!

  • Please can you tell us WHERE and WHEN did you take this recordings, thanks.

  • u are damn lucky to see this... i am a singaporean so i cant really see this... the most beutiful things in sky which i saw was directly after a drizzle there was for rainbow side by side with each other

  • Very intriguing, the way Mammatus clouds form...

  • amazing...

  • it really looked like God and Jesus was with you when you can see the cross at the beginning as proof

  • As someone who's afraid of thunderstorms, these clouds freak me out X_X

  • I never saw such impressive mammatus - BEAUTIFUL!

  • proof the LORD God is real

  • Mamatus clouse are an indication of a super-cell thunderstorm. Storms that form these clouds spike in the atmosphere to as high as 45,000 ft

  • what is this a fag fest ha! i type in rainbow fire an this is what i get no i get a cloud dildo fest fuck you

  • Looks suspiciously like the inside of my large intestine when I had that colonoscopy...but with less polyps.

  • wtf am i staring at?

  • Torn80cj, you got some freaky clouds in your 3 vids man. I think I would have left when I saw those that looked like fingers hanging down from the sky. That was one serieeeeeuuuusssssss looking sky above you bro!!! I cliked onto your acct, you seen some serious weather. You chasers got more gutz than I got.

  • Comment removed

  • @gripm8 I agree wit you gripm8, torn80cj got the serious mammatus clouds on his youtube account.

  • The ones that looked like fingers are actually the same ones that looked like huge bubbles at first. It was amazing to watch them change like that. I wished I could have had a tripod and an extra camcorder and got a timelapse on them. That would have been cool. I couldn't film them the whole time, it kills your neck looking straight up at the clouds for a long period of time.

  • hell yea thats my city :D

  • i wonder if the storm chasers mind getting *microwaved* along with the upper atmophere theyre admiring :p

  • well captured

  • WOW....those COLORS are amazing. I'm a cloud watcher, too...but that is show stopping footage. BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing.

  • Astonishing video!!! BEAUTIFUL.

  • holy ..... i live in portugal and iv never seen anything like dis. Dis looks like some alien thing, lol

  • yes it's weather modification... lol but some people think that it's normal because the effect has a new cute descriptive name in latin lolol

  • The name mammatus is not new. It is at least 51 years old. The new name is Asperatus, but these are not Asperatus clouds. The asperatus clouds have been known as mammatus, but they are giving it a new classification because mammatus is not technically descriptive for the asperatus clouds. The asperatus clouds have been around for a long time. A lot of the pictures now are so photoshopped or heavy on contrast and lighting that they look like something from another planet.

  • is that true? "MAMMATUS CLOUDS" is a 51yr old terminology? cool. i know what was once known as cloud seeding, early attempts to control the upper atmosphere to effects, has been going on since the 40s at least. Makes sense. "Lenticular" is also a new one, it's the effect that happens when cloud forms in the path of directed energy weapons, seen as a big mysterious circle taking the shape of the beam.

  • It's at least 51 years old, because that's how long it's been since any other classifications of clouds have been added to the list. The mammatus classification is probably more than 51 years old though. There is a painting of Mammatus clouds that goes way back, I'll have to see if I can find it, because it was before the era modern technology. The clouds are definetly mammatus in the painting.

  • 3:50 looks very ominous

  • uhhh,, there is no 3:50....theres only 1:32...

  • The video has been modified. It was longer.

  • I wish the camera would pull back so you can actually see the clouds in relation to the ground or someother landmark.

  • thats probably how i would invision the world to end, GOD THATS SCARY!!!.

  • this is verry weird... But so beautifful the world.. i love it

  • nice

  • looks like something u'd paint..its mysterious, scary ,but its also beautiful

  • I hear You on God Himself Painting The Picture for You. I once had the most incredible shot of Mammatus in Circleville Ohio just before sunset. I Ran into a store, Bought a throw away camera, Took the most incredible Pictures, Brought them to Chattanooga to develope. While developing @ WallMart they had a bad storm knock out the power while they were processing and said they were all ruined! It must have been God revieling His Glory to Me, He wanted to keep it between Me & HIM.

  • Truly beautiful wonder of nature.

  • oh yeah...it really was! Thanks.

  • nice video! i remember seeing some pretty low dipped mammatus in NW Oregon on June 29 last year. There was a lot of lightning and wind, and as the storm went over Vancouver, these clouds popped up over me during the sunset. and surprisingly there was a reported wall cloud, which is rare for this area.

  • thats beatiful(:

  • saw these overhead in MD after a summer t-storm -- looked like cool air layered above warm air, with the cool air trying to drip down through the warmer layer - after some minutes the drippy appearance was obvious - very appealing breast-like appearance tho at first -- guess it's not a Sky-Father up there , it's a Sky-Mother!

  • Amazing stuff. Would've been awesome to be there.

  • Haha. Looks like genital warts.

  • wtf its a funnel cloud

  • Truly majestic. Great catch.

  • wow, great footage !! 5*

  • Reminds me of the beginning of the Neverending Story.

  • Wow! That is some seriously unstable air there! What a breath taking, awesome and beautiful video! 5 stars, favorited! I love these types of clouds, we don't see as much of them in Ohio as I would like to. But they are an example of Mother Natures beauty!

  • dude those clouds mean the beginning of a tornado.... wouldnt call tht beautiful would u?

  • happyfaceme,

Yes, I still call them beautiful. They do not always mean a tornado is coming, in fact, most of the time they mean nothing at all execpt for, as I said, unstable air, and turbulence. I've seen them a few times. None of those times produced a tornado.

  • happyfaceme,

see the comment below from bdwskywarn. He explains it better than I can.

  • no they don't. mammatus are NOT considered tornado producing clouds.

  • Thanks man...I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It was pretty awe inspiring.

  • Hei man, where is this location ?

    Nice images indeed...

  • hi Erik

this is about 15 miles north of amarillo, texas

thanks for the comment and i'm glad you you liked the video.

  • i swear,i'd be so scared i would PASS OUT!!but thats just me.other people would think they're pretty

  • Thru out the summer we see these all the time eather was its scary.

  • a true testament to nature if ever i saw one =]

  • wow, words can't describe how amazing this is.

  • Ominous canopy of sky canyons, there! Kind of creepy in a way!

  • great video!

  • I've only seen these type of clouds once in my life, and it's scary. Pretty to see here on the computer screen, but in person they are creepy.

  • There's good reason to be scared of this type of formation: It usually indicates severe activity inside the cloud. It usually ends up as a heavy rain, incredible lightning, or worse...I've seen this formation before, and it ends up that a horrific storm forms behind it...

  • Thats not necessarily entirely true Tatsuno. Meteorological studies have not linked mammatus clouds to approaching storms. Many have been studied and linked to collasping thunderstorms, and not necessarily tornadic storms that do little more than just sprinkle rain for a few minutes. You need to be sure to keep abreast of the weather. If there isnt a tornado warning or even a tornado watch these can be peaceful as well as eerie to watch.

  • Ah...Well to be perfectly honest, I'm just recalling from my past experiance. There is some sort of turrbulence inside the cloud, though, that can cause some form of weather phenomena. That or I could be incredibly unlucky...

  • oh, who cares! the're just pretty

  • Hey Justa, shut the fuck up and go away.

  • WOW that is preatty!!

  • Nice colors. I like the ones that the sun shines through.

  • wow it looks like a face

  • WOW. What more can be said, but WOW?!? God paints GORGEOUS skies. =]

    *StormSpinner1*

  • thanks a bunch...I thought so too!

  • mamma means breast in latin. they look like breasts right?

  • yes that is correct.

  • boob cloud ftw

  • These are nice looking but they hide the truth within the storm itself. When you see something like this, 30-45% of the time there might be a tornado nearby. I would agree that it does look like God has his paintbrush and showed you his masterpiece.

  • i wish i could see this stuff but im in missouri all that stuff happens at night here

  • wow...really? i didn't know that at all.

  • yeah these type of clouds are usually involved with a part of a severe storm.

  • OWNED!!

    VVV

  • words cant describe it so cut out the audio next time. We dont need to hear the scratchy wind.

  • you have a mute button?

  • very strange cloud, indeed

  • I just want to sink my teeth in those mammatus clouds. Look like puffy marshmellows. To bad they're far away in elevation.

  • doesn't mammatus clouds usually signal that a storm has passed

  • It sure did where I was at, near tornado like weather and after a beautiful sky... I just uploaded a fast motion video of what we saw that evening.

  • sometimes...it depends on what direction the upper level winds are blowing. sometimes, mammatus clouds can arrive before the actual storm arrives...or sometimes...you can see the mammatus clouds and the dangerous part of the storm will never arrive at your location.

  • waveswiz is 33 years old and he can't write English. nO SUCH THING AS A eye or a extremely

    he also forgot a comer!

  • Dude I would keep a eye peeled if I saw those those clouds are a extremely good sign of a tornado. but those are purrty

  • I saw them over Santa Fe. They look like human flesh - the reds & purples. Bueatiful, but scary.

  • Wow, there must have been some severe weather close by. Whenever you see those, that means theres a lot of turbulance going on and a lot of sinking air. Usually theres severe weather, usually a tornado, close by!

  • i wounder how high those spikes are topping at.probly around 41,000

  • Twister FTW

  • Hmm, Sunset surely does light up those mammatas. After I get struck by tornadoes(in 35) I always make time to climb out of the wreckage or if not directly hit go to the outside to look at them form if they are out.

  • Heyyy...thx for the comment Lynnie. Keep me posted on any storms you get to see. I haven't seen any this year. It's been really dry and no storms at all here in the Texas Panhandle.

    Take it easy...

    Scott

  • words can,t describe how amazing this is.

  • their called mammantus aka mama's .. named after mom's breast :P by a spanish explorer

    these are not rare -.-

  • who's mom?lmao

  • your momma of course

  • may be not wher you live but that is the first time i saw them i real life

    i dont know

  • i live in mckinney tx and i saw those

clouds over my house on april 17 08

it seems like nobody know what thay are

of course in texas their not common like i have

been i texas for 10 years scince i moved

and even i never seen any thing like this

but i am a weather buff i reed about them all the time just never seen them befor

  • well in the colony their some times common

  • Scott where was this video shot? It looks like the same mammatus we had in Pittsburgh.

  • these clouds proceed tornados.

  • yep

  • not really, mammatus only indicates a strong updraft. The clouds that do preceed tornadoes are wall clouds/shelf clouds. mammatus is also located under the anvil of the storm not the base

  • splendido!

  • Absolutely stunning!!!

Thank you for sharing your heavenly joy with us -- and for having your camera handy!

  • Thank you...

    I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Go to National Weather Service Pittsburgh site and click on the left page, past events then click mammatus! We had the most awesome mammatus!

  • ok I will do that...thanks.

    Scott

  • Spectacular! Awe-inspiring! One of the most stunning multi-color displays of mammatus clouds I've seen.

    Scott

  • Thanks for your response!

  • I remembering seeing these in Pittsburgh but even more orange in Pittsburgh in 1998

  • HolySmokes! Where was this taken?? An amazing site, indeed.

  • It was about 15 miles north of Amarillo Texas in the Texas Panhandle.

  • Looks like a Terry Gilliam thing!

  • Hey thanks for the comment.

    Uhmmm...whose Terry Gilliam?

    LOL
