  • 0:06 Chauvelin's face, "This man is mentally retarded."

  • I like how he kind of used her to get past the gate...but if it's Percy...then it's OK.

  • No! No no no no no! Percy comes off as such an insufferable asshole (I know it it is all an act), why would any woman give him the time of day? It makes Marguerite seem shallow, that she would overlook the fact that he is a pompous boor just because he is attractive. If Andrews would have played that first scene with a wink, instead of chewing the scenery like a ham sandwich, it would have made this relationship far more believable.

  • he says "think me" :)

  • GANDALF!

  • Luckily, he keeps courting her in a more passionate way, afterwards.

I doubt at that point he has fully won Marguerite’s heart.

Yes, Percy is funny and even witty, in that scene… but chivalrous ?

And yes, Chauvelin is a treator and doesn’t stick to his word, but at that stage, Marguerite isn’t aware of it, yet.

  • Some how I can see, where characters like Bruce Wayne, and Don Diego Viego, Also known as Zorro, are similar to the Scarlet Pimpernel. It's awesome. :D

  • Cozypillowx: Whoever u r, I <3 u! This is 1 of my favorit movies EVER!

  • I love how when Percy insults his clothing, he looks all self-conscious XD

  • Mon sewer.. haha! Anthony's the best <3 :)

  • So love Jane Seymour. My favorite scene from this part is when she is stopped at the gates and the guard allows her to pass. Plus Jane looks so great in this video in the white and the hat. she is one lovely lady.

  • @PimpernelObsessed at Macy's

  • Sink me! It's "Maximum Paranoia Agent" Robespierre!

  • Sink me ;o)

  • Why is it so madly unrealistic to want this to be my life?? The elegance, the etiquette, the clothing, the gentlemen, the romance......sheesh! Wish I could literally look at this and say, "story of my life." Bummer =P

  • Sir Percy has the best expressions "Sink meh!" "Odd's fish" and my favorite "What is it you frenchies say? Touche?" lol he's so smooth and fun to watch!

  • at first I was wondering how the actress lady couldn't notice the aristocrat that was smuggled in the carriage... then I thought who wouldn't when you are on a date with Anthony Andrews!

  • tell me I'm not the only one who got to 3:40 and saw Robespierre and was like SINK ME, IT'S BUNTER IN A FANCY HAT

  • Lesson to any guys watching: You don't have to take a woman to an expensive restaurant to be romantic. Picnics are wonderful, even if you don't pack a pair of musicians/servants and a French aristocrat in the trunk. Cherries or strawberries, wine, and crackers and cheese, shared on a blanket in a pretty park is wonderfully romantic, and cheap!

  • fantastic

  • the lines are wonderful

can't say the same about the acting i'm afraid

  • (Oh, forgot, "Tie my cravat in that new style, check"

  • Percy "Hm....giant basket, check. Date with the beautiful Marguerite, check. Rescue another from Madame guillotine, check...Sink me! What a marvelous day!"

  • "Please sir, you move too fast."

    "My heart dictates the pace."

He is absolutely brilliant. Sink me, I have never seen his equal. :)

  • "Sink Meh" this is my new catchphrase !

  • Welll this is filmed in my village.... hahaha how odd, blenheim palace loosk strange with a french flag

  • I love Percy's look at 1:57 how he's looking at Chauvelin like "haha i have a secret" haha and then when he turns and looks at her! i love it

  • .i love his synch meh!!

  • "Then your tailors shall rule the land, and no one will make the clothes."

Sink me, it cracks me up every time I watch this! :)

  • good acting, how he can be so bold in one minute and the next moment he acts so "gayish" at time. but he did a good job hiding his identity.

  • Johnny Depp and Russel Brand PALE in comparison to Anthony Andrews!

  • I'm currently looking through classic literature to become a better writer. I found this movie to be much easier to understand. I love how Percy is pretending to be such a fop.

  • I have to say, the ridiculously huge picnic basket really won me over!

  • Sir Percy 1, Chauvelin 0!

I would quote something Percy says, but everything he says in that ridiculous voice is hilarious and brilliiant! :D

  • What's with the "citizen" business? It should be "citoyen" for men and "citoyenne" for women

  • 2:38-3:00....ah,swoon!

  • What does he say at 6:15? It sounds like "sink me".

Whatever it is it's awesome; I think I am going to start saying it. Just like he does too, with the long gutteral noise at the end of every sentence.

  • @jimbrown257 It is "Sink me." It's a phrase sailors first used, short for "Sink me to the devil." So many awesome catchphrases in this movie...

  • The fops of 18th century Europe put so much more effort into their character than today's metrosexuals douchbags. I wish David Beckam acted more like Sir Percy.

  • The what he adds at the end of his I'm a poet and you didn't even know it is brilliant because it's so modern and out of place which makes it seem so funny.

  • Ahh I laugh everytime at the 'What?' when he says "you see, I am a bit of a poet and you did not know it"

  • Great movie! I never get tired of watching it. Love all of the cast of actors, the sets and costumes. Anthony Andrews is awesome as the Scarlet Pimpernel and the beautiful Jane Seymour is delicious. A great pair indeed!

  • I cant stop laughing whenever andrews is speaking in that dry foppish high-bred english drawl LOLOLOL

  • Ian got Pawned by Andrews big time.

  • anthony is the best actor

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! JANE SEYMOUR!!!! I LOVE HER!!!!

  • Hahaha, I think Marguerite is very confused with her newest suitor's multiple accents. Ohh I love this movie.

  • @Msratings3 Her little look of confused dismay when he enters in the previous part really says it all! I adore this film...Sir Percy's voice has me in stitches!

  • 8:15 they look so happy!

  • @texasgirl2299 ikr....

  • ODDS FISH! I want that basket!

  • I love his sly look as he looks around the tree!!

  • @Trueme92 he is so funny!!

  • @Trueme92 I absolutely love that bit too! Watched it way too many times, lol

  • Robespierre is cooler in the 1999 one, here is looks and behaves too normal!

  • Now there's a man who knows how to multitask!

  • anyone who has seen brideshead revisited will realize andrews is doing an anthony blanche impersonation.

  • @gweijai OMG! You're right! Except he's not gay and he doesn't have the studder...

  • It's been so long since I've read the book. I'll have to pick it up again. My dad has a 1909 copy of it! He keeps it locked up safe and sound. :)

  • @rbutler8273 Actually they are quite accurate. I do theater, and I know the difference because I have been taught by professional costumers, and there is a significant difference from 19th century, and 18th century.

  • I keep wanting to see her feather to hit him in the face.

  • I love the way they randomly pull someone out of the carriage.

  • what is it you frenchies say...touche? you see i'm a bit of a poet, and you did not know it. lol best line everrrrrr!

  • "Sink Me" Anthony andrews defiantly has Percy down. Not to mention he is one on the best actors of the twentieth century.

  • anthony andrews is completely brilliant. this is exactly how it should be.

  • @wickedismycrack714 tee hee....awesome movie!!!

  • one thing i don't get isn't marguerite supposed to meet percy "as percy" and not as the fop first? here, she sees him flip flopping back and forth. doesn't that ruin the whole point of her finding out that he's acting at the finale of the story?

  • @stitchgrl777 In the novel it does say that they spent time together alone, outside of society, where he behaves naturally.

  • @aDieuSeul Or I should say 'behaved' naturally, past tense :P

  • Mon sewer hahaha! XD

  • Is Marguerite very rich in France? Her mansion here seems very well-furnished :)

  • @wincipoet Yes, I think it's funny too. I mean, at the time, actresses earned more money from their male admirers than from their trade - perhaps she had well placed friends to get such a nice place.

  • 7:47...makes me feel hungry hehe

  • Sink me! :P

  • I luv the scarlet pimpernel

  • Lol, he is acting, land of ashes and wincipoet. I think he is wonderful.

  • hehe perhaps...but still I think Douglas Sills and Richard E Grant r better

  • lol His drawl is almost a speech impediment.

  • @landofashes seriously it's so outlandish i can't stop giggling, but not in the way he probably meant it to be laughed at
