  • Good question, I've been meaning to do a video on creating textures in encaustic, maybe this is just the impetus. At any rate, when you paint with a brush, natural textures will happen if the temperature is changing and cooling as you paint. In fact it's hard not to get textures, unless you smooth things out with a heat gun.

  • How did you get the wax textured prior to doing the transfer??

    Thanks kindly.

  • Will this transfer technique also work with Canon color copies?

  • As long as the copier makes toner based copies it should be fine.

  • okay, wait, color copies are not usually toner (missed the word color), however, I have done transfers with color copies, but it's much like ink jet, hard to do, but you can be successful if you are careful. It might take some practice, so get extra copies made.

  • It would be very simple and easy to have a couple of word balloons pop up; when you say, "paint," have the word balloon pop up and say, "that is, WAX," and when you say, "medium," have the word balloon pop up and say, "again, that is WAX."

  • You said medium, you didn't say wax; medium to many people is gel medium; anyway glad you clarified that.

  • you rule.

  • Wax? When did you add wax? You say nothing about that.

  • You're Right! I actually say paint at the beginning, but my paint is encaustic wax. I guess I assumed if you are watching this video, you are already painting in encaustic. I hope to get some more videos up soon that are about the painting process, so that might help.

  • Susan, Finally a reason to register on YouTube - can't wait to see all you offer. Thanks!

  • One more thing on portrait transfers, or text: Make sure you reverse your image before transferring.

  • Ink jet is trickier to transfer. I have done color ink jet transfers, but often the whole image doesn't transfer perfectly, (although I actually liked the results.) Give it a try. Be very careful fusing the inkjet, as it can crackle pretty easily.

  • can this be used with portrait transfers pretty much ink jet portraits?

  • thank you for this lesson! it was explained and demonstrated very nicely!
