  • Me and my sister came up with most of these flips on our own only to find that they are already being used..:( thats sad

  • This is awesome! I'm in a show choir and I used one of the moves I found here with my partner! And I think the tempo is fine; if people want the tempo to be perfect they should go watch a choreographed, practiced and rehearsed dance. When you're improvising being on the exact tempo is just whatever. I think people are just pointing it out so they feel smart. Thumbs up from me!!! YOU ROCK!!!

  • So... painful...

  • She probably shouldn't be dancing in socks if you're doing aerials. It an't be good for her feet or ankles.

  • Wow so how long have you guys been practicing swing to be this good?? Im thinking of joining a swing club at my college...

  • @MDmiller31 It all depends on how much you practice, how often you social dance, and if you take private lessons. Just make sure your swing club teaches "Lindy Hop", otherwise they don't know what they are talking about. :-)

  • @MDmiller31 What college do YOU go to?! Thats so awesome!

  • Holy cow that is all improv and unchoreographed??? Thumbs up!

  • @FalconFastest123 Look up "Fast Swing Dancing - ULHS 2006". Most of that is actually improv.

  • you guys are beast. screw the tempo!

  • @AgentSmith606 Look up "Fast Swing Dancing - ULHS 2006" That's the best.

  • Great dancing!

What is the name of that move at 2:52?

  • @sidinator3000 Because swing dancing is a folk dance, many people know the same move by many different names. I know that move as the helicopter or the Frankie (named after Frankie Manning, the guy that created aerials).

I would encourage you to find an instructor to teach it to you rather than trying to figure it out on your own. Try googling your city/state and "Lindy Hop" and see what you find. :-)

  • Where the heck did you learn those moves? !!!

  • @hellllomiss Look on youtube for instructional videos on East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop. The "jamcellar" channel literally has hundreds of videos.

  • this is an awesome video and it is a great help. my school is putting on a sock hop and my teacher is teaching us how to do some of this stuff. again, great job.

  • @killbot50002 Check out the "jamcellar" channel for literally hundreds of instructional videos. The Jam Cellar is a swing dance venue in Washington DC that uploads their lesson recap videos to youtube, so there's a lot of videos to look through. :-)

  • Great!

  • This Video NEVER gets old! ^.^

  • @TheReba94 Have you seen Hellzapoppin?

  • @CollegiateShagMovies I belive I have....send me a link.

  • @TheReba94 Just search for "Hellzapoppin" and it comes right up! Also check out "Fast Swing Dancing - ULHS 2006". :-)

  • Regarding the argument about competitive level dancing vs. dancing to have fun, people are forgetting dance is an art form. All art forms are about the pleasure of creating something. It is the perception of onlookers that decides where the boundaries of good and bad are set. Not everyone is going to agree. I commend the poster for putting this up for the world with people of all levels of perceptions posting comments here. It takes bravery to withstand a world of criticism.

  • I've watched this video a hundred times and I love it. They're smiling signifying they're having fun (and that's the point of dancing)! I've seen a ton of comments about "not keeping to the beat of the music". The music is more like a club song not good for a competition. The beat does not stay steady throughout the song. Plus, the dancers here are switching between the beat of the drum and the brass (therefore not appearing fluent). With that in consideration, I think it's a great improv.

  • @tippytulip The song is a steady 185 beats per minute through the whole song, so there's no conflict of tempo. There are a lot of musical elements to the song that would through a novice off. The problem with the dancing is that is ahead of the tempo. When putting the song on mute and counting the tempo of their steps (slow, slow, quick, quick) they are dancing at around 207 bpm. There is also a disconnect because of non-swing moves like the pretzel causing them to stop and start dancing.

  • @DudeRafi

I wish you the best, man! She's lucky to have a determined guy to dance with her :)

  • Slicker than snot on a greased doorknob!

  • That looks like a lot of fun...I would love to learn to do that

  • @prideboyster Google "Lindy Hop" and your city/state.

  • so as I watched this cool video an ad popped up for "dance insurance" LOL Yeah, pretty sure I would need that if I tried haha.

  • this totally looked fun! <3

  • I loved it! Thanks for posting!

  • I still don`t get it, what`s the difference between lindy hop & swing?

  • @Aellostrike Lindy Hop IS swing. There's no one swing dance, there's many, many different swing dances, but Lindy Hop is considered the first and most influential, as it came about in the late 1920s, and was also the dance that air steps were created.

The dancing in this video has a little bit of East Coast Swing, but then goes into "hustle" (the pulling and pushing) and some tricks, most of which aren't really considered "air steps".

  • what's the very first aerial you did called?

  • @dancingcoffeebean It's just a simple stage flip. If I were you, i'd look up and learn how to do the Knickerbocker. That's a good first air step to learn. I also recommend you find someone to teach you how to do it in person rather than online. :-)

  • Fantastic!

  • @Winklepinklepuff Based on?

  • 90s swing... don't like it.

  • whats the song?

  • I recognise all your moves BUT why aren't youy dancing in time to the music??

  • I recognise all your moves BUT why aren't you listening or dancing in time to the music??? all too rushed..

  • If you want great dancing and great aerials look up this video:

"Yuval and Nathalie Clown Routine USA Grand Nationals 2006"

  • where is your sense of time! agreed with the comment about you rushing.

  • Very nice work at slow moving steps to show ppl the movements. That is tough to do without the fast-pace physics that is usually required in the airsteps. A+

  • @rostudios There weren't any air steps in this video. Only lifts. :-) Can you guess the difference?

  • Awesome dancing! I will definitely be using this video to learn some new moves.

  • @flinlock You know the "jamcellar" has literally hundreds of instructional videos you can learn from. :-)

  • what is the name of the move you guys do at 1:00 and do you now where i can find an instructional video on youtube???

  • @JungleJulia12 It's called the Pretzel, and it's a move from Salsa. If you want really good instructional videos, check out the JamCellar Channel.

  • @JungleJulia12 It's one of many variations of the "Pretzel" move.

  • what's this awesome song???

  • @XtraXtraodinaire Zoot Suit Riot (it says the song name and artist under the video)

  • whats that crazy arm move called?

  • @dninja786 The Pretzel. It's actually a move from Salsa.

  • It would be nice if you two didn't rush - if you listen and watch, you're dancing at a faster tempo than the music. Maybe it's nerves...

  • @LordStrings7 Yeah I was thinking the same. I go to a swing dance event every weekend and there this one regular, a girl, whose just difficult to dance with because she just has a constant tempo of her own, regardless of the music. Great dancer though, but still uncomfortable.

  • @LordStrings7 Last time I checked, dancing was about fun, not a bunch of perfect movements strictly bound by tempo.

  • @GeekMaster6000 actually, that is a great observation. dancing is about having fun. if you're not having fun, then you shouldn't be dancing. but like anything else, there are certain rules for different types of dances that, when followed (and sometimes broken) allow couples to do a great variety of moves and have fun within the framework of that dance. the spectacular part of many dances is that a couple can follow a and b set of rules and still pull of something spectacular.

  • @GeekMaster6000 Go watch the video called "Fast Swing Dancing - ULHS 2006". All of the dancing in that video is "bound by tempo" as you say. It's important to have fun, but if you aren't dancing to the music, you don't know how to dance.

  • @CollegiateShagMovies I've watched 2006 up to current. And that's a competition. How can you hope to compare the dancing in this video to that? People who compete in competitions aren't held back by tempo, it's just part of the choreography. Now, I'm quick to point out flaws in tempo when people have practiced their dances before, but unchoreographed dancing? That's more about fun than precision and perfection.

  • @GeekMaster6000 I still don't understand the point you are trying to make. How is dancing off beat a good thing? While Modern Dance takes liberties with tempo and "music", this is swing, not interpretive dance.

  • @CollegiateShagMovies I never said that dancing off-beat is a good thing, and I never said that this is interpretive dance. I'm saying that people should just watch the video and take it for what it is (fun), instead of criticizing their form and tempo.

  • I was thinking the same thing. The moves are great and you guys are together but you are not with the music at all. Keep working though!

  • That's so great. I've always loved this type of dancing but I can't dance at all and I don't know anything about dance. Maybe I'll take some lessons.

Is 15 a good age to start?

  • @pressleybby One is never too old or too young to start swing dancing. I started at 14 or 15, and have loved it ever since. Lessons would be nice, but many towns and cities have swing dancing groups and clubs that host swing dances, often including lessons. If I were you I would look online and see if there's anything near you. :)

  • lol i luv this havnt heard it in yearz

  • @MorganPearsonArt That's still Lead and Follow, but I think you're also talking about "connection". :-)

  • how do i do some of those nice combo spins where it looks like ur arms are all getting tangled

  • @ferventmaster Check out "The Jam Cellar" channel for a bunch of videos on how to do many swing dance moves. They have over 300 clips.

  • @MorganPearsonArt I believe you are talking about leading and following? It's a pretty common concept taught in every swing and lindy hop class.

  • wow u guys are good and a lot of fun to watch.

  • You have no rhythm

  • There were very cool elements. the timing however was pretty bad. the timing was slow slow quick quick. they were just running around and not on the beat a tall. at times the rock step just did not exist.

  • OMG THEEEE BEST DANCE I HAVE SEEN FOR LIKE HOW U GUYS DID THAT ARM THING, WERE U TWIST UP AND THEN DOWN!!! amazing :) : ) :)

  • @minibajagirl You should check out the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown contest videos.

  • fantastic, marvellous, I wish those dances still could be available in the night. I am sick of modern urban beats

  • @yoenace There's a Lindy Hop community in just about every major city in the US.

  • This song is kick ass, Just starting swing here... Can u recommend some other rmusic?

  • @ferventmaster Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Chick Webb, etc. You should look up the Yehoodi Internet Radio Station on Live 365. Swing music for dancers by dancers.

  • if this was me, and 2 years later i could actually dance, i would remove this video and keep it only to laugh at privately.

  • @BrittBonshor Agreed, but the original poster is practicing "American Smooth and Rhythm", so they are learning ballroom not real swing dancing.

  • What is the move at around 2:35 ? It is really cool, it looks like some sort of soooper pretzel.

  • @Mojocho80 The Pretzel is a move from Salsa, not swing.

  • not dancing, thats called walking through moves, no swing at all,,,,,

  • Hoo-ah, swinging vid mates! I absolutely adore swing, but i do East Coast. Question: How in blazes did you get soo great in swing? ANd tips and advice for an aspiring swing dancer???

  • @SrgtChang Learn Lindy Hop. Look up Frankie Manning and Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown.

  • Talburt even if this was a few weeks ago, dont listen to the critics too much, it is entertaining to watch. Do you have more videos we can watch I am wanting to learn some new moves.

  • wow thats not choreographed?!

    it was amazing!

  • what is the move you do at 27 secs called does anyone know

  • @saxyprince Yeah, it's the pretzel, but it's not swing. It's a salsa move.

  • you guys look like your having fun!

thats what swing is all about afterall!

  • whee fun!

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • Very cute! I have a short video of me and my friend on here but it's really short.

  • Comment removed

  • GOOD STUFF(!!) You make it look easy.

  • BRAVO!!

  • Can anyone try and explain how to do the part in this dance with the combination of spins from 00:26 to 00:33?

  • @dleach96217 Yeah, but I won't. It's the pretzel, and it's a salsa move, not swing.

  • u guys are great there is moves in the video that i would love to learn myself thanks for uploading the video

  • Hey whats this song called?

  • I love this:)

  • This made my day ^^ Thanks, for uploading guys =D

  • ok trying to post but cant what gives

  • that was awesome! i like how you do the extended arm dip, i hav such a hard time with that one for some reason haha but otherwise, gr8 job guys!

  • Over all nice but so out of beat

  • hey guys think the dancing is good, was wondering if i could have permission to use about 10-15 seconds of it in a music video i am creating, plz let me know asap, so if not i can find other stuff to use

  • Decent moves, but even the base moves were out of time with the music.

  • Awesome! Looks like fun!

  • Also, to settle the debate, this clip is not actually lindy, it is very loosely east coast swing. In addition, the person who views this routine as what swing dancing is all about is going to have a very hard time on the floor at a typical swing event, which is usually crowded.

  • @GraceCoolidge

That statement is contradictory. Lindy in 95% needs more place then east coast swing. I never do Lindy on a crowded floor...except when i wanna hurt someone

  • @TurboKurva I was actually referring to the aerials and dips as not being a good idea at a general dance. However, it is very possible to do lindy without hurting anyone; all you need to do is make your swingouts tighter.

  • @GraceCoolidge Yeah ofc u can but i dont find any fun in that. I like fast lindy with a lot of space:D As far as aerials is concerned i dont think aerials belong to an open dancefloor. I am getting steped on and kicked even when ppl are dancing normaly

  • While I totally acknowledge that aeriels definately have their place in the swing world, I would like to caution those watching that aeriels can be potentially very dangerous, especially to those with no actual training trying to learn them from a video. You should never, never attempt these w/o an experienced spotter.

  • @GraceCoolidge Thanks for the public service announcement, douche. And kids, always wear your seatbelt too. haha. You've either got the drive or you don't. But if it's in your soul, it's easier just to move.

  • @joshtheguitarfreak Swing is like ice skating. Yes you can figure it out on your own, but a good teacher can have you up on your feet after only 1 lesson, and keep you from looking like a fool. Often times people want to rush into doing lifts without learning any of the dancing. What's the point? If you don't know the difference between an "lift" and an "air step" you shouldn't be attempting either. This is doubling true if you don't know who Frankie Manning is (he invented aerials).

  • Hey I'm glad you were able to execute all the aerials very well but you need to work on your dancing technique. For one, your hands are too bouncy when you're doing the basic step.

  • this was totally unexpected. great work!

  • Love this! my friend and I used this to try and learn some stunts! much appreciated

  • damn u guys are good

  • I agree, nice work.

  • haha the both of you make me want to try swing dancing! You're both absolutely amazing!

(notes a video in the related link: The law of attraction!! hahaha i laughed!) < absolutely working in my life.

  • @beccahoo Learn to swingdance! It's the funnest thing ever!

  • I've contacted a school and will be dancing with Lindy Hop this Friday!! YAY!

  • YAY! Good luck. Remember, you have to have and keep a good rhythm when you're dancing even when doing the turns.

  • Comment removed

  • LMFAO!! JACKIE!!!!

  • looks like fun!

  • 00:50, so cute! :)

  • NVRHNCKG, depending on where you are from there are very good instructors in Lindy Hop. Also keep an eye out for workshops from top level dancers such as: Nick & Carla, Skye and Frida, Max & Annie, Andy and Nina, and so many more. Local classes are good but you should take lessons from people who are connected with an entire dance scene, and not just a ballroom that claims to teach swing. Whatthebalogni, sorry, just tellin' it like it is. No hate.

  • im going to join Lindy Hop!! YEAHHH

  • So, how do I learn to do some of those intricate ground based moves (not the aerials)?

  • Hmm...I'm really disappointed that people think this is swing dancing and that it's good. This couple is clearly off beat the whole song, dancing a 6 count basic in 4 beats, and just wasting time so they can get to the aerial, which are really bad because the dancing is bad. Check out all the main Lindy Hop couples. That's swing dancing!

  • STOP HATIN!

  • Love it :)

  • at 2:15, what is that move called?

\I would like to find out how to do it :)

  • That was awesome!!

  • I'm doin a swin type choreography. Can u reccomend any songs??? That would be helpful ^.^

  • he's good. it helps that his partner weighs about 90lbs. otherwise the aerials couldn't be done. but he's good, though.

  • You can do those aerials with much heavier girls you just have to have the right technique.

  • 3:28-3:34 is hard for me to do well because my partner was 21 and i was only 15 lol. But almost succeeded!!!

  • Wow, so clean and precise. I hope to improve and get this good. Thanks for the video.

  • You guys are good im in the swing choir at my chool we do all the lifts you do but we aslo have to sing so its a challenge i guess thats why its an advanced choir. We always have fun like you two are.

  • you guys are good=) where do you dance at.?? you both kinda look familiar....lol=)

  • Nice job! Especially since it was improvised. Don't listen to these downer comments, you guys look like you work very well together.

  • hmmmm not good, sorry!!!

  • God, I love this its just i had to spend 3 hours with my sister trying to learn parts of this... thanks but i really do like it and its fun to try things this hard ive only danced like 5 times before also =)

  • oh my good, you look like you're having so much fun!!!

  • You might as well have left the music out, for as many times as you actually stepped to the beat. It isn't dancing if you're not connected to the music. It's just a bunch of aerials with music playing.

  • @wendydarling17241

Totally agree, this is just aerials, not a dance demo. A bunch of muscle doesn't make a dancer

  • That was so cool! I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching y'all and it inspires me to better things. I've been swing dancing for less than a year and I love it soooo much! vids like this help me learn and encourage me to try new moves. thanks!

  • Hate to be the scruge of the video, I would be much more impressed if you guys had a more musical basic. Aerials are impressive, but foundation is what makes things great.

  • thats awesome that yall can do that to jive music! but try next time to dance on beat

  • Very impressive. You guys were born to dance together! PS...I'm stealing the reverse pretzel from you.

  • Can you add a list of the moves you do (in order) to the details section?

  • lol! NICE!!!

  • wow you guys are great!!!!!!!!!!

  • way awesome!! This is a great video...you should post more!

  • are this girl's arms still attached? i couldn't bear to watch it to the end. My instructor calls these kinds of leaders "army" men

  • Too bad these two don't know how to dance to the beat.

  • Dang, you cats can dance!

I started about a year and a half ago, I'm hoping within a few years I'll be able to tear it up like you guys do!

  • youre my new best friends.

  • I like it...better thean theses lame asses calling themselves pros...GREAT JOB GUYS!!!

  • Perfect!!LOve it

  • AMAZING!!!!

    5 STARS!!!

    =D

  • Soooooooooooooo Coooool :-)

  • that move they did at 2:15!!! AHH!!

i wanna dance like this SO BAD.

    amazing vid :D

  • would be really good if you stayed on beat with the music and didnt run through everything. The basic swing step is slow, slow, and the rock step is quick, quick.

Slow beats are 2 beats of music and quicks are 1.

  • that was really really good. how often do you guys swing dance?

  • what song were they playing?

  • Suit Zoot Riot

    By Cherry Poppin' Daddies

  • I thought this was really good especially for the fact that you didn't choreograph first. I just started swing dancing after YEARS of wanting to give it a shot, so I'm really excited. =)

  • Ah. This is amazing.

My boyfriend is really into swing danceing, and wants me to learn.

    Kinda nervous XD

Though I've been a cheerleader and gymnast my whole life, so he says it shouldnt be too hard. idunno XD

  • well , im dizzzy :D

  • good dance lots of cool moves, but they need to shorten the moves up not so long. some of the spins move them half way around the floor when they could be doing them almost stationary. and if they could pull that off thy could keep with the beat the whole time it's when they do the lifts and spins that they loose the beat becuase they are spreading themselves out to much. but really a good performance oh yeah and the guy needs to stay more on the balls of his, feet it will give it more fluidity.
