the survivors of the long march must have been sooooo fit after that. lol, if any of we westerners were to try that, we would die immediatly. The chinese are strong people.
@ugoodHomeBoy some years ago, a group of Chinese University students try to make a "new long match" by following the red army's step. Only a few people to reach the final destination. Most people can not stand the pain of the journey.
Chiang was an idiot who was obssessed with ridding the Reds meanwhile unable to stop the Japs from terrorizing and looting Eastern China. The Nanking Massacre is the epitome of his incompetence as leader of China. I don't agree with Mao's agrarian concept, but at least, he fought for China's dignity and pride. US marines and UN forces ran like headless chickens when chased by Mao's peasant army during Korean War. ROFLMAO
and when the cowardly kmt lost, they fled to taiwan and didn't wait too long before terrorising the taiwanese - putting them under martial law for nearly 40 years.
today the kmt are still the party of the wealthy class and are still known for dishonesty and corruption.
why chiang kai shek memorial hall is still standing remains some what of a mystery. today, taiwanese school children refer to their former dictator as chiang kai shit - a much more appropriate name for such a scumbag
@hemingway2407 The KMT certainly were certainly bad in many ways, but it is highly unlikely they would have done anything as the mass famines of the Great Leap Forward or the madness of the cultural revolution. A look at the difference in living standards in Taiwan in comparison to mainland China, particularly until the reforms under Deng, says a lot.
see, mao was a military leader; he should have stayed in that position. Mao never took a course in politics or economics, and so was clueless in what to do in those areas. Would have been better if Enlai became chairman instead of Mao
The Americans supplied air support and replacement parts, planes, fuel and arms to both the Kuomingdong and peoples army. My father said that the men came to resent Chiang Kai Check because he did not use all the materiel against the Japanese but hid it in caves to use against Mao after the war,. Truman and Chiang planned this but the AMericans rebelled and Truman could not continue without airsupport. This part of Chinese HIstory was played up in the 70's-90's, and is at its PR nadir now.
It should be said that the 'rich peasants' and landlords weren't always rich peasants and landlords. In "The Long march" by Sun Shuyun it is said that often these rich peasants were poorer than some of the poorest peasants in the Jiangxi Province and the villages where most the marchers were from.
These soldiers are truly legendary! 实在佩服

@allahBurpsCum true, but there's no point in talking about possible alternatives when talking about the past
