STUPENDO! This is simply amazing: one should realize all the progress made in terms of diction and acting by DJS. The voice is HUGE and the projection is stunning. This is an Adriana of the first rank, UNEQUALLED. And what a great production, with beautiful costumes/jewelry. And DJS LOOKS SUPERB. We miss you so much. I will publish a short bio of DJS on Internet. Many fond memories of one of the greatest GRANDE DAMES of the 20th century. Love for eternity. RIP

Now, there her diction is perfectly clear and her dramatic emphases as good as a number of other verismo divas. Still, she is a bel canto singer in the very sound of her voice. Bravissima, Dame Joan! Rest in peace! (She does look so lovely--carefully styled. Nowadays a lot of divas with messy hair, ungirdled belly, and wearing an underslip.)

Most people really do not know the difference between good or bad acting when the medium is fine arts. It is annoying. No person ever went to see Sutherland act. She did fine, but she knew that they came to hear her voice and she gave it to them. They never went home disappointed. That disappointment is only for armchair critics. Today most singers can neither sing nor act. They confuse more flailing about with acting. This piece was fun to watch.

I don't see much to criticize here. The diction could be better, but the monologue is heartfelt and it is well placed. I actually think she did quite goon in this section.

I saw Tebaldi and Corelli in this opera, and they were great, but Sutherland had the stage presence and voice to make this scene work well, undeniably.

The costume is great! She had some great costumes in this production...except for the final scene. I never liked the way she looks in the final scene. I think the portrays the drama very well and I love her facial expressions. Someone people may argue about how good her diction is...but I won't.
