First time I ever heard this song, I was standing in someone's basement at a cast party. Friend of mine found a guitar in the corner and told me he could play this. So he did.And honestly, I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up a bit after he got done. Needless to say, this is one of my favorite songs now.
only thing wrong with this song is that Johnson City is actually east of the Cumberland Gap... Great song when your woman is riding you... Rock me momma any way you feel! LOL
WOW! Great song! Killer video! Kinda brought a tear to my eye; taking me back to a time when I was just a young Southern boy; and still had Faith in many things that I no longer believe....starting with the US Govt.. Me n' a buncha friends just sang this around a bonfire Saturday night. Must make Mr. Robert Zimmerman (Bob Dylan) proud to hear his Music carried forward in such fine fashion....into a new generation.
It seems as though you cant play this song "loud" enough !! We played this when we lost one of our finest Marines. And continue to play it today when we lose one of our few.
i love this song!!! i must have played it 60 times in the last few days, the whole thing, his suit, the chicks, the blue sky, the dude in the green vest cutting it. love it!!
.. but the fair ground at dusk on the last clip,,, childhood commin back.
@rocketmanab Yeah, I thought so. God I Bloody love them. This is a lot easier to play on the ol' geetar than anything by Gillian and David. Also a lot more "New Listener to Roots Country" friendly . Great sing along tune. If you are new to this and you like it (I don't mean you rocketman, obviously..) ,I urge you to seek out Welch and Rawlings. Truly Frikkin Awesome! And for more good ol' stomp along ... Check out Ray Wylie Hubbard.
I have never heard this song on the radio until tonight, I love this song so much I had to listen to the rest of it haha P.S- It was played on an Alternative Rock station up here in Philadelphia lol

Actually, this really isn't a Bob Dylan song. Bob only wrote the chorus, Ketch wrote the verses to it.
