I love this game. Never had the first Contra as a kid and didn't know till much later in life that this was "Contra 2"! I give this game an 8.5/10, because I like the crappy base gun concept. It's like in shooters where you can't afford to die and lose your upgraded weapon, in Contra you can't afford to lose the spread, unless your beast. Another awesome review from K.

The Normal Gun actually adds challenge.

It's too weak nor too strong-- but, It makes boss battles longer and harder which is a good thing for Masochists.

To Skilled Players, the Spread Gun is actually the 'Game Over, I win' gun-- so yeah Skilled players would aim for harder-to-use guns to win the game.

Excellent Review!! You touched on all the key points of this game. I've actually never played the original Contra, but me and my step-aunt (she was only a couple years older than me) used to play Super C co-op all the time. She was so much better than me, but damn it if I didn't give it my all. I'd give anything to relive those days. Epic game. We need more like it.

super C kicks my ass all the frigging time! and I almost always get stuck on lvl4 the green tower stage, even if the game pisses me of a lot of time it's realy a ton of fun =D

Yeah it's true. In Europe the origial Contra was called probotector and the heros were two robots, It wasn't till a few years ago that I actually found out how the game was supposed to. But I must admit that I do actually like the PAL version better. The robots looked very cool.

great review, I loved this game as a kid as well. One thing I just really thought was cool was the whole post-apocalyptic destroyed stages. It was very different from other games and was just cool.

I think it would have been worth noting in this review the reason to why it's called "Super C" instead of "Super Contra." Konami didn't want to associate their game with the Iran-Contra Affair so they left the word "Contra" out of the title.

The Spread shot is awesome in the 1st game. And it's still pretty good in Super C. But I prefer fireballs. I don't know if you know this but you could actually press and hold the B-button for 1 second then let go to shoot a bigger fireball that does more damage than the regular fireball. You can pretty much kill all the bosses in the game with a few hits using that weapon.
