Pier's involvement in the argument was to, essentially, continually make an invalid point about Byrne's hypocrisy rather than answer the very valid questions he was making. He couldn't defend Dubai, just repeat that he felt Ed Byrne was a hypocrite because he went there 10 years ago. Later on he refuses to answer Ed's questions about the X Factor, making stupid jokes about people having guns put to their heads. He came across as, basically, wrong.
