Great voice, ruined by amateur grade microphones.

Here's a tip, try recording next time with a rag covering your microphone, this helps to cancel out some of that static in the high volumes. If this still doesn't work much, then you need to build your own temporary sound room, essentially think of it as a bedsheet fort when going temp and homemade.

But personally I would buy a good expensive microphone, I think a throat microphone can be good in this case but i am NOT positive.

There is a resurgence of interest in Negro spirituals. You have a big voice for it and appear to be young enough to make a career of it. However, vocal training can give you skills to increase both your tonal range and your phrasing. Check with your churches musical director for guidance counciling.

I like, buuuutttt,,,,, I personally feel that negro spiriturals are best if they are not over indulged as per the end of the song. However.... your voice has a rich resonance and truth to it and mostly holds true to the history of the lyrics, but keep the melody pure and use your voice to bring out the passion of the song rather than to over singing it!

This may be redundant for the point has already been made, but I feel a need to echo it anyway. Imagine yourself a slave; that your master can beat, rape, kill or sell you, your mate or your children at will and there is no one on earth with power to legally intercede. Okay, seriously! It's a Negro Spiritual, it was a song to celebrate the fact that their place in the world, which was horrible, was about to be over and they would live with the world. Would you really feel like living in victory while on earth if you were in their situation. Also, these type of songs were written often as a secret language to pass messages along that the underground railroad was leaving should any want to join as well as many other secret messages.

I agree with a previous poster that you can omit some of the excess melisma, though you don't have to cut all of it. With spirituals, to sound authentic, you have to attach those lyrics to your soul and then tug! It seems you may have been reading the lyrics at a couple of points...even if you weren't, you really have to feel those words! If you can't (which is understandable as your life experience is likely not congruent to a slave's), you may want to select a song in which you can.
