In Brazil there are really like various societies. In the cities the upper and middle classes enjoy a very nice life.Better than in America even. Brazil is a very beautiful country and very nice to visit however. Many people are very friendly and outgoing. Even though I knew it was some crime in Brazil I didn't know it was like this.

This is a very old documentary. Situation here in Brazil is a lot better. We still have a lot of problems but we are getting better and just the way the video say most people in favelas are good people that work hard for a living. The big problem is the rich and withe people that buy that shit. If there were no buyers it wouldnt have drug dealers. And looking now at the comments I think that people that are not brazilian should not judge the reallity that they dont know.

I have read a lot about Favela, no rape, no theft and even whole night one can wander on road without fear. even drug dealer are better than corrupt police. if resident of Favela decide to halt work for one week, Brazil will collapse.

This video hurts to watch. And it happens everywhere, including in the US. Crooked cops sell drugs to desperate people and then when they don't deliver or they won't put up with them smacking them around...they get massacred like this. It's a mad world. Government programs, education...that's all the poor need. They don't WANT to go to sleep to the sound of gun shots and helicopters. @theshark2005 First this happen only in Rio de Janeiro, not in the whole country, second there are many safe places in Rio with HDI higher than many european cities, and like in 2007 pan american games, Rio will be the safest city in the world, Third you can be a victim of violence in any part of this world, for instance my uncle went to vancouver in 2009 , and he was robbed by a gunman.fourth the police took over many favelas, things are getting better now.

@theshark2005 When I was in Brazil in 97-98 I visited Rio a couple of times. Rio is fine during the day and okay until about 9 at night but there was some danger. we saw some guys dealing drugs at our hotel and a creepy man followed us as we were walking to our hotel in ipanema because he thought we were prostitutes. we had to throw rocks at him to get him to leave. I don't know how it is now. In rio the favelas are all on hills and fairly isolated from the city however.

@theshark2005 a lot of the crime however is due to poverty and a lack of opportunities. In brazil it seems if you're born poor unless your a soccor star or entertainer you really don't have many opportunities. until the economy includes all people it will continue like this.

I say that because I write before watching it. I lived in Brasil for 9 or 10 years. I asked my family once. They didn't know. I lived in Rio de Janeiro. It was scary. My family was scary. I left in 1970. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to be a Brazilian. 13 when I left. I remember a few places. Miguel perreira. Watching the favela in the pouring rain.  Mountain sliding. People trying to move out before it all gave way.#1
