  • I think this was a fair documentation. I think Mr. Pickens has some good ideas. But I am also interested in solar. It has been said that solar isn't quite cost efficient. Can someone point me to a resource to learn more about using solar to generate electricity?

  • Wind energy dosnt work!

its just the government trying to get a "green" image

also has anyone thought about the people who have to live near these things?

  • Stop sending people into coal mines where operators don't worry about safety, for mercury laden fuel. Stop spilling oil in the waters. No unfortunate waste that can't be placed anywhere but weapons. Stop the cash flow from our country. The answer is in the wind. I hope wind investment gets richer than the oil bastards.

  • Well said!

  • My uncle has a dairy farm... With wind towers. Trust me, I've had my coffee heated by them. The barn... its lit up. The cows are heated. It works.

  • shut up u have no idea wat ur talking about

  • Has anyone thought about the people who die from smoke pollution? The effects on the environment from coal?

  • Hey this stuff saved the faimly farm up north. It fits any farm in upstate.

  • I'd rather have a horizon full of wind turbines in my sight than a horizon filled with a nuclear power plant and power lines.

  • And yes, the power CAN be stored, POWER IS POWER. Come on people! Electricity is no different from a generator than from a windmill. People need to open their eyes and start embracing the future of our planet. If we dont then there wont BE a planet to embrace. Planes allow us to go on vacation, yet no one complains about them being in the sky in spite of the fact that we have seen that can very effectively be used as weapons of mass destruction.

  • They're OK as long as they can fly you to your winter home in Florida right? Bridges allow us to cross water, yet we dont complain about the way they look on the horizons. As long as they get us to our weekend getaways in Cape Cod were fine with them. People are SO arrogant and naive. These windmills are majestic. They represent the human race's resolve and ability to survive.

  • I feel proud to be part of a generation that is willing to put forth the effort (mis-steps included) to secure a future for our children. Get over yourselves and start thinking about THEM!

  • So that is your contribution "feeling proud" to be part of a generation and some goobly gook about saving the planet? Obviously if you knew anything beyond what you see on youtube you might have more credibility.

  • I wasnt aware we were discussing personal contributions, but we can do that too - if you like. But you are right though, saving the planet for our children is all just goobly gook. I dont even know why we bother - LOL. One more thing, how do you know that I dont know anything beyond youtube? The same way you know that saving the planet is goobly gook?

  • Ok WindIsNotGreen, if wind is not green what do you suggest we do to produce energy as an alternative to fossil fuel use? As far as I can tell, wind energy is the most benign form of the green or less polluting forms of electricity generation.

  • OUR PLANET IS DYING, AND ITS OUR FAULT! In the face of all of what is happening you actually have the gall to be in opposition? If you dont have any solutions to our VERY REAL problem, what right do you have to be in opposition of ANY alternative effort? I have seen the windfarms, and lived where they are located. Guess what - its always windy there. Thats why they chose those locations - so THAT argument is simply ignorant.

  • Its called the laws of supply and demand. Because people like YOU wont support the change without their palms being greased up. Sadly, there needs to be incentives to get the industry off the ground. But whats the most astonishing to me is how willing you are to cut off your own nose in spite of your face. In a paultry 200 years we have managed to cause more destruction to our home than we may ever be able to turn back from.

  • OK, so let me get this straight. All you people on here who are against the support of wind power would rather the world not make any effort at all? What ideas have YOU contributed to society to curb the global destruction that is out of control? You boast your knowledge of tax sheltering to promote your own stubborn beliefs, but without be tax incentives the arrogantly ignorant masses wouldnt support what is in their own best interesets.

  • All the false and misleading claims the wind industry makes for itself work to disguise the fact that it is only a nominal producer of electricity in the eastern US. Its primary purpose is to provide extraordinary tax and income sheltering opportunities for a few wealthy investors at the expense of average taxpayers and rate payers. On a per kilowatt hour basis, wind is the most heavily subsidized source of industrialized power in the nation.

  • That may be so. Solar, natural gas, nuclear are also subsidized. I think it makes sense at least initially to subsidize these projects.

  • Hey New Yorkers, especially you LIHEAP mooches, how much does fuel oil pollute?

    Thought so.

  • It is so sad that so many are in a hurry to dismiss this environmentally sane source of power. The world is dying yet we can't seem to get it into our heads that change must be made. This is change for the better and we need to embrace it.

  • The real reason that Goldman Sachs and other big mecantile financiers are backing the giant windmills are good old-fashioned tax breaks. The US government permits a triple depreciation for tax purposes on wind turbines, and those with enough capital can invest in tax shelters that use these depreciations to remove the tax on profits for other ventures.

  • New york Wind Power is only a tax scam for these LLC make a buck quick and ruin the beautiful "view shed" of upstate new york - the governor and hillary should be ashamed - whitewater all over again.

  • Have I seen this comment before? Hummm...?

  • Town Survey Results Show Majority Want BAN of Commercial Turbines in Bovina, New York. The Alliance for Bovina is very pleased that the survey results show

most Bovina residents oppose commercial wind turbines in our town and

that this issue not just a "second home owner" issue. We welcome

everyone in Bovina to be a supporter of the Alliance in its fight

against commercial turbines in our area and our future efforts on other

important issues which need more community involvement.

  • Because the wind does not always blow sufficiently -- let alone on demand -- no other sources can be removed. Even when the wind is blowing well it may drop at any time, so other sources have to be kept burning to be ready to kick into generation mode. The result is little, if any, reduction of fuel use by or emissions from other sources. Additionaly when the wind blows over 25 mph the turbines must be stut off to minimize fire or prop damage.

  • Great Video!! It's nice to see the facts being presented. ( I totally agree)

  • 9200 decibels? 200 decibels is louder than a nuclear bomb! Well, so much for the scientific accuracy of this clip...

  • 90 to a hundered you muppet

  • Well, that's good to know.

  • Great look at the issue. I might use this video clip in my AP environmental science class! Thanks.

  • wind energy certainly can be stored, but there is no need to do that, as we have a grid and since we are utilizing so much less wind energy than we could be producing, we have the ability to put the energy on the grid when "the wind blows."

  • That was great to see that theres no harm done to any wild life or no sound wakeing you up at night. I wish to see some in Texas.

  • Very interesting to see that this video having been made by the 'pro wind turbine' lobby and associated companies, there were no 'downsides' stated aprt from Nuclear Energy. Also noticed that you neglected to say that wind turbines are the most inneficient form of Renewable Energy as it cannot be stored and can only generate when the wind blows! Also, not an 'alernative' but a 'top-up' when there is a shortage in the National Grid.

  • wind energy certainly can be stored, but there is no need to do that yet, since we use so little wind energy right now, we have the ability to use wind power when "the wind blows," and reduce the amount of power we get from dirty sources. Once we get above 20-30% of our electricity from wind, we may need to look into storage methods. Since we, as a society, are at less than 1% of our electricity from wind, there is no need to have storage. Wind is part of the solution, not the only solution.

  • What's impediment is there to the storage of wind power that does not exist for other sources of electrical energy? Electricity is electricity.

That said, it is common practice to run the generators in dams in reverse in roder to make them pump water into the reservoir, and thus store electrical energy. The efficiency is not fantastic, but the storage capacity is huge.

  • Great Video!! It's nice to see the facts being presented.
